Today, we take a moment to honour and celebrate the cherished lives of our beloved rescue cats who have crossed over the Rainbow Bridge this year 🐾💕 Our foster carers fought effortlessly to save these little beings, we always have hope but unfortunately the odds were not in our favour.

Buttons, Biscuit, Spot, Bobby, Betty, Lambie, Pepper, Lily, Milo, Nugget and Tea 💖 Each paw print they left in our hearts is a reminder of the joy, love, and companionship they brought in our lives.

🚨URGENT FUNDRAISER🚨🚨

‼️Help Platypus and Meowgie See Clearly Again‼️

We are reaching out for your support to help our beloved cats and kittens. Foster Kittens of Melbourne have been hit hard with numerous cats facing eye issues over the last couple of months. Platypus and Meowgie are two cats that need to see an eye specialist urgently.

✨Why They Need Your Help: Platypus was rescued from the pound euthanasia list at just 2 weeks old, he suffered severe cat flu that led to ulcers in both eyes and black spots on his cornea which impacts vision. Platypus has already had several vet visits, we have been administering medication diligently along with staying on top of his symptoms. Unfortunately his eyes aren’t healing like expected and he is now required to see an eye specialist. Meowgie, also rescued from the pound euthanasia list with a cloudy eye. The vet is unable to confirm his diagnosis, therefore is also required to see an eye specialist.

🔔The Urgency: Time is of the essence. The sooner they receive the specialist care and treatments they need, the better their chances of recovery and leading a happy, healthy life.

💕How you Can Help: We have set up a fundraiser to cover the cost of their specialist visits, treatments, and any necessary surgeries. Every dollar counts and brings us one step closer to giving Platypus and Meowgie the gift of sight. The uncertainty of their prognosis means the vet bills could be thousands of dollars. We need all the help we can get!

Let’s find Misty her forever home!✨🤍

All of Misty’s kittens have been adopted, now it’s Misty’s turn!

Introducing Misty, a beautiful and gentle soul who is looking for her forever home.

Misty has had a challenging start to life and came into our care having just given birth to a litter of five kittens in a high school shed. Despite this though, in only a short five months she has already flourished into a sweet girl who loves chin scratches and having her gorgeous calico coat brushed. To ensure that she continues to come out of her shell, her new family will need to have patience and understanding with this friendly but shy girl.

Misty is stunning girl, being a rare dilute calico with a silky-soft long coat. To ensure Misty continues to look her best, she will need regular brushing and grooming, which is just fine with Misty because she loves a brush!

At only 3 years old and never having known a safe home life before, Misty is still learning how to ‘cat’ – toys and playing are only just starting to interest her. Misty has all the signs of being a wonderful companion though and with time and love we know Misty will thrive.

Misty would best suite a single-pet household. Misty is also best suited to a quiet, adult-only household, where she will be given time and gentle encouragement to come out of her shell in a safe and relaxing indoor only home.

You hear that a cat has FIV, or Feline immunodeficiency virus, and you get a little anxious. Well we are here to debunk all of the lies and misconseptions you've read about FIV and explain why FIV positive cats shouldn't be discriminated against.

So what is FIV? Essentially, FIV is a disorder where a cats immune system may not be able to fight off infections and diseases as well as other cats. However, they will often live just as long any other cat, and may not ever show symptoms.

"If I adopt an FIV cat I'm putting my own cat at risk"
Despite common belief, FIV cannot be spread through sharing food or grooming. FIV can only be spread through deep bite wounds. These kinds of bites are not likely to occur in a home environment if cats are desexed and a slow introduction occurs.

"If I get an FIV cat it won't live as long"
This is not true. FIV cats can live JUST as long as any other cat. Often times, you will never even know your cat has FIV, as it takes years and years for any signs to show, if any signs show at all.

"My cat will get sick if it has FIV"
This is false. fIV does not cause illness, it simply makes the body slower at healing from illnesses. With an indoor lifestyle, a cat is unlikely to get any infection to begin with. However, if an FIV cat does get sick, it can still recover!! It might just take a little longer!!

Some cats get FIV as infants, through their mothers milk, and they will grow up to be strong and healthy cats, and their owners may never even know they have FIV for their entire life. However, these cats spend SO much longer in foster care, pounds and shelters compared to cats that do not have FIV. This unfortunate label, and the stigma that has come with it, means that cats are getting euthanised simply because their test shows they are positive. Help us get more FIV cats off pound euthanasia lists by considering them when choosing a pet.

Today we are celebrating one of our mumma cats in care. This is Charlotte

Charlotte was found abandoned in a box at a petrol station with her 8 kittens! Thankfully she and her little babies found their way into the FKOM family where she could concentrate on taking care of her babies. Those babies all thrived, grew up and have since found their forever homes, now we think it’s Charlottes turn!

Charlotte is a sweet, loving and a very affectionate girl, she calls out to her carer when she sees her and loves a good cuddle, she’s also a bit of a bed hog.

Charlotte does like to keep the affections of her humans to herself so she wouldn’t mind being an only cat but it’s also not a must as she does currently share the house and humans with other kitties. Help us find Charlotte her forever home, this beautiful loving girl is so deserving 💕

Bobby 🌈 🐾

We recently had to say goodbye to our sweet senior gentleman Bobby. We welcomed Bobby into the FKOM family a couple of months ago and he quickly became a rescue favourite because of his rugged good looks but ever so sweet demeanour. It was discovered quite quickly that Bob’s health wasn’t the best, but we were determined to make Bobby comfortable for whatever time he had left with us. We weren’t sure if it was days, months or years, but unfortunately the day we were dreading came sooner than we had all expected. Bobby had some sudden and extremely worrying changes that we were monitoring closely with our vets. Sadly, his body just couldn’t keep going and it was decided it was time to say goodbye.

Our heart goes out to his wonderful foster carer Jess, who has kept him warm, loved and safe for the remainder of his days 💔 thank you for all the love you showed him

He definitely made a huge impact on so many people in such a short amount of time.

After surviving a ruthless kitten season, we want to take this day to reflect on all of the young kittens that have come into the Foster Kittens of Melbourne family over the past year. We want to raise awareness around how many kittens come into our care due to people failing to desex their animals and keep their cats inside. Please don’t mistake this post as glamorising kitten season and all the kittens in our care. Tens of thousands of dollars are spent each year on medical bills, emergency fees, desexing and vaccinations. Kittens bring in diseases and the deaths of mum cats who cannot withstand the excruciating toll of pregnancy. Kitten season is the most expensive time of the year for us and can drag our rescue into debt.

We also want to use this post to thank all of our amazing foster carers and volunteers (including transport help), who allow us to get through kitten season. Without your willingness to take in these kittens, we would not be able to save them.

❗️Palliative foster carer needed!❗️

Bobby has had a challenging life and is now seeking a stable environment where he can receive the care he truly deserves. Due to his past experiences, he is not comfortable around other cats and would thrive best in a home where he is the sole pet.
Bobby has several medical conditions that require ongoing attention:
• Intestinal Lymphoma: This condition requires monitoring and possibly treatment.
• Heart Disease: One daily medication he has with food.
• Bobby’s foster carer should be comfortable administering medications and able to commit to his long-term care needs.
• He requires a calm and loving environment without other pets to ensure his comfort and reduce stress.
• Assistance will be needed to transport Bobby to appointments for procedures like desexing and dental care.
Despite his health challenges, Bobby is a lovely and calm companion. He has a gentle demeanor and would make a wonderful pet for someone willing to provide him with the care and attention he needs in his later years.

At the bottom of their PR profiles, you will find a link to our website that will take you to the ‘Adopt’ page. Here, you will be required to fill out an adoption application to be considered to adopt your cat or kitten of interest.
We usually take a few days to review applications and contact those we would like to progress with. If you are successful, we will contact you to organise a time for a phone conversation. Following the success of a phone call we will then organise a time for a meet and greet with your potential cat or kitten.

A few things to note:
-It is not first in best dressed. We review each application whether it was the first in or the last.
-We are all volunteers who also work regular jobs aside from this. Please be patient with us as we try to navigate adoptions in a timely manner.
-We will discuss adoption fees and deposits with you over the phone.
-If you are wanting to adopt bonded siblings we look upon that favourably.
-We also look favourable upon your application if you have adopted from us before.
-If you miss out on a kitten you apply for please try again for our next ones listed as there are always plenty of kittens looking for homes during kitten season.

URGENT FUNDRAISER! Little Tina has been battling the flu for a week now and after being admitted to the vet today on fluids she is crashing. A couple of days ago there was an urgent call out for a pet cat that had given birth. She was in a dangerous situation where her kittens may not have made it. With work from the wider rescue community, we managed to bring mama and her two remaining kittens (two passed shortly after birth) into care. Two boys with low birth weights but a will to live! Mum didn’t have much milk but after some stimulation from the babies, her milk came flowing! Mum was very lethargic and she looked defeated and sad, so we got her into the vet the same day she arrived. All three were also crawling with fleas🤢 It’s been a few days now and babies and mum are doing amazing as you can see. We are yet to name them so drop down your suggestions in the comments! Baby Jemima (and her brother Jack) are two of the eleven kittens we brought into care a number of weeks back from a hoarding house. We also have with us mama Rosie! Jemima’s eye was crusted over on arrival and has since ruptured. She’s been having trips to the vet every few days since she arrived and we can confirm she isn’t in pain and now enjoying her kittenhood! We waited to introduce her and her brother as we weren’t sure what would happen but we’re cautiously hopeful for an awesome outcome🥰 Jemima will have an enucleation (eye removal) when she gets desexed-this will be when she’s around 11-12 weeks of age. Shout out to Jemima and Jack’s carer Juliet, who has absolutely killed it! This was her first litter of kittens to foster and boy did she step up to the plate! Desex your pets!

Here we have another throwback🌈 This heartwarming moment was such a special one. Baby Lewis had been a lone kitten for five days before we were able to locate his three sisters and reunite them with him. The little mews and cuddles are too much. They were so happy to have eachother again 🥺 And it was only the very next day mama Fern was trapped and reunited with her four babies! This was back in September, 2020

✨Throwback✨ As we have arrived at the end of kitten season (finally!) we will be posting some throw backs of our former fosters. Here, we have gorgeous 2 week old baby Lewis who was the first baby of the season, last September. He was eventually joined by his three sisters and his mama, my girl Fern who is still in care with me now. They were all rescued from the streets where they would have grown up and continued to be stuck in the cycle of breeding. Lewis thrived in foster care has grown up big, strong and glorious in his forever home with his sister, Margot. His name now is Albus 💙
