Laparoscopic speys (keyhole surgery) are now being offered at Doncaster Veterinary Hospital!. Laparoscopic speys utilise two tiny incisions to allow desexing of female dogs utilising specialised instruments. This procedure results in a two day recovery from surgery compared to the normal two weeks. There is lower pain for your pet compared to traditional surgery and lower risk in the surgery compared to traditional spey procedures . We can also do laparoscopic prophylactic gastropexies at the same time if required, and we can also do other laparaoscopic surgeries such as intra-abdominal organ biopsies and cryptochid male desexings. Call us today to book in your pet for this amazing advanced procedure.

Does your pet have kidney issues? Hills have upgraded their K/D range!

“Great tasting clinically proven nutrition to improve and lengthen quality of life, now with ActivBiome+ Kidney Defence, a proprietary blend of prebiotics shown to activate the gut microbiome to help protect kidney function”

All of the canine and feline k/d products will be upgraded with this new technology that is beginning to roll out. Due to these small changes it is recommended to gradually transition patients to the upgraded version. This transition period should last at least 7 days however some pets may benefit from a longer transition of 3-6 weeks.

We’re still in grass seed season! Wondering why grass seeds can be dangerous for your dogs?

Grass seeds can get caught in your pets fur when playing in long grass. The grass seeds have sharp edges that can pe*****te with your pup's outer skin and migrate through the body, resulting in irritation, infection and possible internal damage which can lead to exploratory surgery to remove the grass seed.

If you think your pet has come into contact with grass seeds and may be in pain, please contact us on (03) 9842 5330.
