🚫 Dangerous Foods for Puppies 🚫

As much as we love to treat our pups, some common human foods can be harmful, even toxic to them. Keep your furry friends safe by avoiding these:

🥑 Avocado – Contains persin, which can cause vomiting and diarrhea.
🍫 Chocolate – Loaded with theobromine, it’s a big no-no and can lead to serious heart issues.
🍖 Cooked Bones – They can splinter and cause choking or internal damage.
☕️ Coffee – Caffeine is extremely toxic and can be fatal to puppies.
🧄 Garlic – Damages red blood cells and can lead to anemia.
🍇 Grapes – Even a small amount can cause kidney failure.

When in doubt, stick to pet-safe treats and always double-check before sharing food with your pup. Keep them happy and healthy! 🐾

Does your puppy jump on everyone to say hello? 🐾 While it’s adorable when they’re small, it can become a bigger problem as they grow!

Teach them that calm greetings get more attention. Reward ‘four paws on the floor’ and don’t be shy to ask guests to to ask puppy for a sit! 💡🐕

Todays kids! I think I need a van soon to fit them all in. We had so much fun today. 🐾

Big cuddles with Rufus after graduating Puppy School. This boy loooooves being held. ❤️❤️

Does your puppy you or the kids bite when you pick them up? A lot of puppies don’t like to be picked up which equates their mouth on your skin.
It’s cute and fun for you but not for them and can sometimes these cues can be missed leading to them feeling frustrated.

Instead of picking them up for a cuddle, sit on the ground to see if that’s something they’d like to do. This might look like them hopping into your lap or laying beside you.

And that’s a wrap! Congratulations to my August Puppy School puppies and puppy parents. 🤍🐾

Is your puppy biting?

Here are some of the reasons why you puppy is biting:

- Overtired: When puppies are exhausted, they often become overly stimulated and may resort to biting as a way to release their pent-up energy. It’s similar to how a child might become cranky when they’re tired. Ensure your puppy has a consistent sleep schedule and plenty of downtime.

- Overexcited: Excitement can trigger biting, especially during playtime or when they encounter something new and interesting. Puppies sometimes struggle to regulate their emotions and may use their mouths to express their enthusiasm. Redirecting their excitement to appropriate toys and keeping play sessions calm can help manage this behavior.

- Saying “No”: Sometimes, puppies bite as a way of communicating their discontent or when they don’t want to do something. This can be their way of setting boundaries.

- Playing: Play is a crucial part of a puppy’s development, and biting is a natural part of how they play with their littermates and humans. It’s important to provide appropriate toys and encourage gentle play to channel their biting behavior into positive interactions.

- Exploring the World: Puppies use their mouths to explore their environment, much like how human babies use their hands. Biting and mouthing are natural ways for them to learn about textures, tastes, and objects around them.

- Teething: Just like human babies, puppies go through a teething phase where their gums can be sore and itchy. Biting helps them relieve the discomfort and helps their teeth come in. Providing teething toys that are specifically designed for puppies can help soothe their gums and redirect their chewing.

Puppies use their mouths to explore the world. We need to understand WHY puppy is doing the thing we don’t want them to do, before we can show them what we want them to do.

Let them sniff!

Why?
Dogs have an incredible sense of smell. It’s their way of learning and gathering information.

It can tire them out: Allowing your dog to investigate new scents not only tires them out but also gives them a sense of freedom.

It stimulates their mind: Besides getting physical exercise from walking, your dog will also burn tons of mental energy when they get to sniff.

Instead of going for your usual walk, try to just really let your doggy take their time and smell OR take them somewhere you know they’ll love and the aim is to just let them take all the smells in. Charlie loves going near the river and beach.
