For the kitties

⚠️Don’t just ‘like’ this.. we want this shared out in the community 🐱

😺 FREE sterilisation and microchipoing for concession card holders! 😺

Everyone can do their bit to help rescues in WA…. Now it can even cost you nothing! Simply either share this post or get your cat/s desexed!

We know rescue is tough out there at the moment. It’s never ending requests for help with animals exacerbated by the housing crisis and cost of living.

Cat rescues are being absolutely SLAMMED
despite that the Cat Act has been in place for a decade. Cat Haven are getting up to 80 cats and kittens a day. 😿

Still people are not sterilising and allowing their cats to breed.

Cat Haven WA are doing free sterilisations and microchipping for concession card holders.
On top of that majority of rescues do FREE desexing of mother cat in exchange for the litter to ensure kittens are desexed.

Now there is no excuse. There should be no giving away free kittens unsterilised. None what so ever!
❌Don’t come back to us with “rescues are in it for profit” either. 😾

Go to Cat Haven WA page for contact details and fill out this form below:

So many animals are lost, injured or worse during fireworks. Here's some tips to help them feel safe.
🐕 Calm sniffy nature walk before the night gets busy/loud
🐕 Please make sure they are inside tonight of all nights, gates locked.
🐕 Yummy food available to chew on and fresh water.
🐕 Use thunder jackets/Adaptil/medication prescribed by vet behaviourist if you have them.
🐕 Keep windows, blinds and doors closed to reduce sound.
🐕 Calming music inside for them, a humming fan to mask the sound.
🐕 Keep them secure so they don’t run away (making sure your pets wear their collar and they have ID tags attached).
🐕 Don't believe the hype. You CAN comfort your pet. If being near someone helps them be calmer, let them. Keep them company if you can or have a friend do so. If interaction/ training helps them, do so.

The beginnings of training Nuggz to ding a bell rather than scrape the door to be let out. I'll be taping the bell down. I start by having bell near door. Then I'll slowly move further away to a convenient spot. Good one Nuggz ❤️

Many people believe their dog “Loves all kids” and make this generalization. This, in fact, is usually far from the real experience of the dog. Dogs that accept older children (like in photo left) might not feel comfortable with unsteady toddlers. The unpredictability of toddlers may make dogs u...

🧡 Building relationships.
Bindi is smart. She remembers everything. Bindi's body language here in this video is still a little anxious in moments (eyes, panting) but we've come a loong way in the year and a half approximately of working with her. A combination of medication, management and training has helped her.

While she can still get stressed with people entering her space, feedback is she has become more playful generally. She certainly trusts me more and seeks touch sometimes. Play is a wonderful indicator of quality of life. You can't play if you aren't relaxed. Enjoy your giant elephant girl. I look forward to hearing stories of you play bowing it!

THAT “GUILTY” LOOK
“My dog knows that he’s done something wrong, just look how guilty he looks!" This is something that we hear so often.
People are amused and entertained through social media and even dedicated websites where pictures of “guilty” dogs are uploaded. The “guiltier” the dog looks, the more popular these posts are and the funnier people find them. I find this really sad because it’s a complete misunderstanding of a dog’s body language.
Dogs may look guilty, but they are not feeling guilty. That “guilty” look is actually a dog showing the body language of fear, stress, anxiety or appeasement. The fear of being punished, the stress and anxiety of hearing the person’s tone of voice, demeanour and noticing the person’s body language, the appeasement behaviour in an attempt to calm the angry person down to avoid punishment.
As people, it’s natural for us to want to believe that our dogs feel guilt and remorse about whatever they’ve done wrong. Maybe thinking that they really do feel guilty somehow makes their behaviour more acceptable and is a form of an apology to us.
Dogs are capable of a wide range of emotions that are similar to that of a 2 to 2½ child, but it’s highly unlikely that they feel more complex emotions, like guilt, regret, remorse, shame or pride.
Guilt is a complex emotion and defined as an unhappy feeling that you have because you have done something wrong or think that you may have done something wrong. It’s a feeling of shame, regret or remorse. The feeling of guilt requires an understanding of cause and effect and is relative to time.
Do dogs spend the day feeling guilty, waiting for you to come home to find that chewed up couch or shoe, or are they waiting excitedly for you to come home because they really missed you and are looking forward to some attention?
For the emotional wellbeing of our dogs, let’s seek to understand them more and focus less on how we believe they should feel just because it makes us feel better.

As we all know, season is full of friends and family coming over, or maybe you're traveling to someone’s house. During this time we may be seeing unknown dogs (even dogs we know) and it can be very helpful in keeping situations from escalating.

We taught our kids how to stand like a tree if a strange dog comes near or any dog is scaring or bothering them.

Here’s how to stand like a tree:
1. Stop ✋
2. Fold your branches (hands folded in front)
3. Watch your roots grow (look at your feet)
4. Count your breaths in your head until help comes or the dog goes away
