Interestingly, a strong purr is not just a behaviour seen in domestic cats; it is observed in wild cats, too, albeit with some differences.

So why do cats purr? Such a seemingly simple question actually opens the door to a fascinating world of feline communication: https://nexgard.com.au/pet-care/cat-care/why-do-cats-purr

If you are considering desexing your pet there are many benefits, including:
๐Ÿ’ซ Dramatically reduces the incidence of mammary cancer in female dogs, and prostate cancer in males.
๐Ÿ’ซ Reduces the number of unwanted litters of puppies and kittens.
๐Ÿ’ซ Can improve behaviour as pets are less likely to develop aggressive tendencies toward people and other animals, mark their territory, or stray.
๐Ÿ’ซ Discounts are available on the compulsory council pet registration fee for desexed pets.

If you need more information on desexing, please phone our clinic to chat with our friendly team or to book an appointment for when we reopen.

Just like us, our furry friends crave a mix of physical and mental workouts. While outdoor adventures are unbeatable, we know it can be hard to keep up with daily walks as the days get shorter. Luckily there are plenty of indoor tricks to keep your pup engaged!

๐Ÿ โœจ Perhaps explore food puzzles, training exercises, scent work, or good ol' playtime to make indoor time as enriching as their outdoor escapades.

Let the indoor adventures begin! ๐Ÿ•๐Ÿ’ก

Meet Georgina ๐Ÿพ who is looking for her forever family ๐Ÿซถ๐Ÿฝ

She is our kind, shy natured girl, who has warmed our hearts at Croydon Park Vets. She is 8 years old, has no detected medical issues and is just the sweetest thing. ๐Ÿฑ

She loves her food ๐Ÿฒ, sitting in the sun ๐ŸŒž, and cuddling up for some scratches ๐Ÿค—. She can be skittish but never aggressive, she has a sass you can only adore, and does a cute little wiggle when something intrigues her.

Georgie was unfortunately dumped in our clinic, when her family never came to collect her. ๐Ÿ’”

We want Georgie to find her forever home, with someone who will love her and nurture her the way she deserves. She would be better suited with a family who has no other cats or children.

Please reach out for your interest or tag/share to someone who should meet Georgie ๐ŸŒŸ

โ„๏ธ Winter can be tough on pets, especially older ones. If your dog or cat is finding it harder to get out of bed or showing signs of discomfort or stiffness this Winter, weโ€™re here to help.

Look out for these signs:
- Reluctance to jump into the car, up onto furniture or climb stairs.
- Lowering down slowly to lie down then falling in a heap.
- Slow to get up and walk.
- Slowing down or refusing to continue on long walks.
- Crying or whining during movement.

These signs may be due to aging, injuries, genetics or an underlying medical condition. We can assist with identifying the cause and provide a proactive care plan to enhance their quality of life. ๐Ÿถ๐Ÿฑ

Brrrr! Winter is coming and even though your furry friends may have a โ€˜built-in coatโ€™ itโ€™s still a good idea to be mindful of how you can keep them as warm and comfortable as possible.

Keep your pets warm with our top 5 winter tips:
๐Ÿพ๐Ÿงค Bring them inside if possible, on chilly days/nights to protect them from the elements.
๐Ÿพ๐Ÿงค For outdoor pets, provide insulated shelter with soft bedding.
๐Ÿพ๐Ÿงค Invest in winter clothing like coats or jumpers, especially for older or short-haired pets.
๐Ÿพ๐Ÿงค Adjust walk times to warmer parts of the day or shorten walks to limit cold exposure.
๐Ÿพ๐Ÿงค Skip the shave! Regular brushing prevents matting without compromising warmth.

Caring for a senior pet marks a significant stage in every pet parentโ€™s journey. As our furry companions grow older, they change, and their needs evolve too.

๐Ÿฅฃ Food & Water: Monitor their eating and drinking and mention any changes to eating habits or weight to our vets as there could be an underlying issue.
๐Ÿ• Exercise: Give them regular, gentle exercise and go at your petโ€™s pace.
๐Ÿ˜ด Sleeping: Aging cats tend to sleep more. Provide cosy bedding in warm, in a quiet draft-free spot and monitor any changes in sleeping patterns.
๐Ÿฉบ Regular Check-ups: Health exams, including dental checks, are particularly important for senior pets as they are more prone to illness and ailments (every six months is ideal).

If you have any concerns about your senior dog, please book your pet in for an appointment. Our vets can provide advice and treatments to help your dog enjoy their twilight years with comfort and joy. ๐Ÿพ

As your cat ages, their needs evolve. Here are our top tips for taking care of your cat during their senior years:

๐Ÿฅฃ Food & Water: Ensure seniors eat and drink enough. Offer small, frequent meals and accessible water.
๐Ÿ˜ธ Playtime: Keep them active with gentle play, improving muscle tone and circulation.
๐Ÿ˜ด Sleeping: Aging cats tend to sleep more. Provide cosy bedding in warm, draft-free spot and monitor any changes in sleeping patterns.
๐Ÿฉบ Regular Check-ups: Health exams, including dental checks, every six months catch issues early.

By recognising and addressing the specific needs of senior cats, you can ensure they enjoy a comfortable and fulfilling life in their later years.

MEET GEORGINA AND HUMPHREY โค๏ธ

Both we're brought into our clinic on seperate occassions and sadly their owners never came back for them.
We've done everything we can to get them a home again, with no luck. They've been apart of our clinic family for so long now, but with our looming renovations we are having to find carers or permanent homes before we close.

Help us find them homes so they don't end up at the pound. Read bio's below:

๐Ÿพ Georgina (Georgie, George, Gummy Bear)- 7 years old, grey/white tabby DSH
๐Ÿฑ Our big owl-eye girl, with her gummy smile (all teeth have been extracted due to gingivostomatitis, this was performed by a our vet, Tim in clinic)
๐Ÿฑ Shy girl, fearful but wanting to be loved by humans only
๐Ÿฑ Loves her food, especially getting pats while she nibbles

๐Ÿฑ Preferred to be an only cat, and to go to a family with no children
๐Ÿฑ LOVES TO BE BRUSHED, was one of the ways we won her over

๐Ÿพ Humphrey (Humphrey Bear)- 3 years old, grey tabby DSH
๐Ÿฑ Our big boy, who is an attention seeking monster with the cutest meow
๐Ÿฑ Crazy for food, do not leave any out or it will go missing (warning: hide food bags, he can open them!)
๐Ÿฑ Friendly with everyone, even cats BUT he is a dominant male, who likes to play rough at times
๐Ÿฑ Wants scratches 24/7, will rub all over you, doesn't like to be held but will sit by you while you work
๐Ÿฑ Loves to climb on top of things, especially up high (like our cat enclosures) โค๏ธ
