🐮Pink eye in cattle 🐮

We are seeing a lot of pink eye cases in our area, and is important to understand what pink eye is and recognise symptoms.

Pink eye is caused by a bacteria, Moraxella bovis which is easily spread by close contact between cattle but mostly flies. 🪰

Symptoms to look out for include:-
- excessive tears, weeping or squinting in either one or both eyes
- closing or blinking of the eye due to discomfort
- yellow or white discolouration to the eye

There are several treatment options, but better to treat early and prevent spread to others in the herd.

Please feel free to contact us with any questions on prevention or treatment options. For an online reference, follow the link below.

Sometimes when a pet is in pain, you may see subtle changes in their behaviour. Cats may sleep more and resist jumping; dogs may be hesitant to go on a walk. Any changes in behaviour can be a sign of pain or other health issues, and we recommend you contact us to make an appointment for us to visit your furry friend.

Urinary blockages in cats are often referred to as ‘blocked bladders’ and ‘urethral obstructions’.
This is common, especially amongst neutered male adult cats and overweight cats.
Some key symptoms to watch out for include:
• Frequent trips to the litter box
• More frequent grooming of the rear-end
• Difficulty urinating (very little urine being excreted)
• Vocalisation during attempted urination (pain)
• Swollen/firm abdomen that is painful to touch
• Lethargy
• Vomiting
• Disorientation
• Inability to stand
If your cat displays any of the above symptoms, make sure to call us immediately, as this condition is very serious, and patients can quickly deteriorate.

When Does My Pet Become A Senior?

You might notice some physical and behavioural changes, such as:
- Greying or whitening fur around the nose and mouth or throughout the coat
- A general ‘slowing down’ or a slightly less bouncy personality
- Longer and more frequent naps throughout the day
- More frequent urination, and perhaps the odd ‘accident’
- Increased vocalisation – this can be caused by increased anxiety, confusion or frustration

The bird in the photo with the black head went MISSING about 6:30pm on 27th March near Millers Lane. Her name is Coco and her owners have advised she is really tame and most like won’t bite as she is not in her territory/home. Owners are giving a $100 cash reward for anyone who returns her dead or alive as they are beside themselves not knowing where she is.
Please contact them on 67363350 Monday to Thursday or our Tenterfield Health Services page.

‼️‼️
Japanese encephalitis is an exotic disease that has been recently detected in piggeries in QLD, NSW & VIC.
It is a disease carried by mosquitoes that effect pigs, horses and humans.
To help avoid mosquito bites we suggest putting fly masks and light mesh rugs on your equine friends as well as using a safe insect repellent.

This is a notifiable disease so it must be reported to bio security authorities. If you see symptoms of Japanese encephalitis in your horses or donkeys, please call the Emergency Animal Disease Watch Hotline immediately on 1800 675 888

Despite spending $1 billion on biosecurity each year the world's nasties, including Japanese encephalitis, keep sneaking in.
