As everyone prepares their summer travel plans, remember it is important to understand what you will need to take your dog with you to the United States. On August 1, 2024, the rules are changing. One of the biggest pieces you need to know and be prepared for is that your dog MUST be microchipped. This is a service that can be done anytime (it is just an injection), but we definitely recommend it. Along with your microchip, you will be able to register your dog on the BC Pet Registry which can definitely help if your dog gets lot!

For more information on the new US regulations, we recommnd you visit the following site: https://www.cdc.gov/importation/bringing-an-animal-into-the-united-states/dogs.html

National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day!
Each year, National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day on April 30th raises awareness for thousands of pets that are waiting for (and needing) adoption from the shelters.

Animal shelters require year-round assistance and adoption is a part of the process. Since animals come in daily, the shelters must work quickly to ensure the animal's health and well being. Only then can they be adopted into their forever home. The day also encourages you to visit a shelter near you and find your new fur baby. Visit with the shelter to consider all the needs the dog or cat requires for the long term.

Post your rescues or foster fails! We love love love seeing your cuties.

International Guide Dog Day

International Guide Dog Day is celebrated on the last Wednesday in April each year. It marks the establishment of the International Federation of Guide Dog Associations on 26th April 1989. International Guide Dog Day is an opportunity to celebrate the work of guide dogs around the world and raise awareness of the importance of guide dog services to help people who are blind or have low vision live life on their terms.

IGDF encourages all guide dog organisations to get involved and arrange local events to celebrate their fantastic work. If you are thinking of arranging an event, please let us know by contacting the IGDF Office. Please remember to take lots of photos at your event, and send these to us, so we can publish them here.

Earth Day

We try very hard here at Prevost Vet Clinic to be aware of our waste levels and recycle as much as we can. Working in the medical field there is a certain level of disposable products and packaging we cannot avoid however the staff here at Prevost are pretty well trained to separate paper and plastic and rinse recycling.

Veterinary receptionists are often a first and last point of contact during a pet care visit. Those that provide client service in animal hospitals are an essential part of the team. The care they contribute can greatly impact the success of a practice.

Veterinary Receptionist Week is celebrated the last full week of April each year. This is a super time to spotlight and appreciate receptionists in pet hospitals everywhere.

Stop in this week and tell our reception team how awesome they are! We sure do appreciate them.

National Pet ID Week

We here at Prevost Vet Clinic know how important ID is for your pets whether it be a tattoo, microchip or pet tags.
Did you know we will include an ID Tattoo in the ear at no extra cost during your pets spay or neuter AND we will register it with the BC SPCA Pet Registry to make it even more searchable.

Read some stories about happy reunions on the BC SPCA's website and share your stories if you have them about being reunited.
https://spca.bc.ca/news/national-pet-id-week/

All microchips registered with the BC Pet Registry are traceable internationally via the American Animal Hospital Association’s (AAHA) universal pet microchip lookup, petmicrochiplookup.org. This partnership means that you and your pet can travel with confidence!
