This is a little note to those of you lucky enough to know the crusty, truckstop waitress kind of horse.
First of all, you don't really own her. This is the horse who never takes a sick day, who never takes anyone’s advice, who does not suffer fools—or know-it-alls—gladly. This is the horse who can smell a lie—or a smooth-talker—from a mile off…
If she had to, she could still get the job done on three legs. By herself.
If you know this horse, you will smile in understanding. For no matter her size, you are on the safest, fiercest, most mighty horse in all the world. Don’t waste your time trying to argue with her, or micro-manage her, for you will not win. You will not change her.
No, just be wise enough to thank the stars that you and she have crossed paths. Get on the same page with her, allow her to do her job as she knows best. Be gracious enough to say thank you.
If you do, you will have a friend like no other. She will always have your back, no matter what. Saddle up and go in search of adventure. Learn a new sport. Bundle up and gather those cows, no matter the wind or vile weather. Siddown, hang on and shuddup. With her, you are fortunate enough to have a brave warrior princess on your side and because of this, you, too will become invincible. You now have wings.
Here's to those of you blessed with the Dolls, the Berrys, the Chickadees, the Nellys, the Bettys, the Chicas and the Ciscos of this world. The rest of us can only watch and wish… in wonder.
