This is Tater Tot - she is a 7 week old West Highland White Terrier!
She weighs a whopping 1.8 lbs.
We thought she was just precious in her AprilVets bandana!

He is the most handsome Golden Retriever puppy!
Dr.Levangie saw Benji for this week for his puppy vaccines, and we absolutely loved him! We can’t wait to watch him grow!

How old is Dr.Dibblee’s oldest patient?
Would you guess almost 102 years old?
Gus the Gopher Tortoise came to visit us here at AprilVets. Dr.Dibblee has been his veterinarian for several years and ensures he is in good health.
Gus lives at the Museum of Natural History in Halifax and has since 1942.
He is the oldest tortoise of his kind on record and we feel so lucky to help him live his long, healthy life.
You can see here Dr.Dibblee and RVT Griffin carefully trimming Gus’ beak. This ensures he can continue to enjoy all of his favourite foods without issue.
RVT Cara also poses for a photo-op with Gus! It is always such a fun day when Gus comes to visit.

A surgery suit or onesie can be a great alternative to the “cone of shame” for some pets! It is important for them to not lick at their incision, but we want to ensure their comfort.

Here at AprilVets we want to cultivate a positive visit any way we can. We utilize dog and cat specific pheromone diffusers, calming music, lots of treats, fear-free medications when needed, and of course, listening to our patients.

A beautiful Nina to brighten your Friday morning!
Nina was in to see Dr.Bowser as part of her kitten progress examinations.
We typically get to see puppies and kittens 2-3 times as they grow. As a part of her complete physical examination we ensure she is growing properly, eating an appropriate diet, and keeping up with her vaccination schedule and parasite prevention.
Nina was a model patient with a clean bill of health.

Did you know that even our tiniest patients can have an IV placed?
Here is our rockstar RVT, Victoria with Guinea pig, Ernie! Ernie underwent a general anesthesia to have a lump removed by Dr.Dibblee.
Small patients require diligent monitoring, just like cats and dogs. We monitor their heart rate, respiratory rate, oxygen saturation, and anaesthetic depth, temperature and even blood pressure!
Having IV access allows us to administer medications safely and quickly!
We are wishing Ernie a speedy recovery. ❤️🩹

Bumi visited us for his check up. An important part of his exam includes a thorough look at his teeth. Sweet Bumi is wrapped in a towel, keeping him safe and secure while Dr Dibblee looks at all his teeth. We call it the Bunny Burrito!
Did you know rabbits need to eat hay as the majority of their diet? The hay helps wear teeth normally as they grow and helps prevent gastrointestinal upset.
