Monte had a bit of a tumble this weekend, so when mom brought him in to get checked by the veterinarian, we decided to safely carry him around everywhere in a cozy doggie-tote! 🥰 Good boy Monte!

Our amazing Dr Watt has shared her knowledge with VITA magazine about how to keep pets safe around water this summer. Link to article in the comments.
Poor Re*****on! She had just gotten back home from a nice walk with her mom, when she started acting very strange - wobbly on her feet and disoriented.
When dogs present with these types of symptoms, our veterinarians can examine the pet and run a test to see if they’ve gotten into a variety of substances. In Re*****on’s case, her test turned up positive for THC. She must have eaten some ma*****na that was discarded on the trail during her walk.
With the right treatment, Re*****on was able to go home to recover with her loving momma. ❤️
In cases where symptoms like these come on very suddenly, it’s a good idea to have your pet seen by a veterinarian, so that they can determine the type of substance ingested, and ensure they get the right treatment for that substance.

Thank you to sweet boy Gunner for being a hero and giving his 5th blood donation!! High five Gunner! 🙌
Did you know that dogs can sometimes require blood transfusions to help treat their health conditions? At Fairfield, we have a robust Blood Donor program where healthy dogs over 25KG, between 1-7 years of age, who are up to date on their core vaccines, and on parasite prevention can donate to our Blood Bank. Occasionally, donor dogs are called in on an emergency basis if a patient is in need!
We love our blood donors ❤️ Thank you for saving lives!!
Thank you so much to the Kelowna community for your votes, kind words, and support ❤️
We are dedicated to providing emergency veterinary care to the pets of the Okanagan 24 hours a day - rain or shine, holidays and long weekends, rock slides, snow storms, or forest fire evacuations, we will be here for you and your furry family. Your pets are our priority, and your support means the world to us ❤️

How many toes do you think Cheddar has??
So many!! 🐾 Cheddar is polydactyl, which means that he has extra toes on each paw. We say, this means there is more of Cheddar to love 🥰
Don’t you just love seeing cute animal paws?? Show us your pets’ paws in the comments!
Can you guess how many ticks we pulled off one poor pup this week?
35! - Including the two large engorged ones indicated with arrows.
Ticks can carry tick-borne diseases, can cause anemia in large infestations, and can also cause a condition known as “tick paralysis,” where animals become temporarily weak or paralyzed until the ticks are removed.
Ticks have been very prevalent in the Okanagan this spring. Talk to your regular veterinarian about tick prevention medication for your pets, and let’s say BYE BYE to these yucky parasites!
Any dog can be a lap dog if they try hard enough, right Maple? 😆
Do your pets love to sit in your lap? Do your big dogs ever climb into your lap, or sit in places where they “don’t fit?” Show us your pics in the comments!
Did you know that Fairfield offers advanced diagnostics and specialty services - such as abdominal ultrasound, echocardiograms, CT scans, and an Internal Medicine Specialist - by referral from your regular veterinarian?
These technologies and services help veterinarians obtain more accurate diagnoses, and guide the treatment options for your beloved pets with confidence.
We are always striving to provide the most advanced, up-to-date patient care and techniques we can, in order to serve the pets of the Okanagan. If your pet is in need of specialty services, talk to your regular veterinarian about a referral.
Does Peggy get nervous in-clinic? We’re pretty sure that is a resounding NO! 😆
When Peggy came in to see us for eye issues, she kept climbing into laps, rolling over for belly rubs… and falling asleep! 😄 The bestest girl who won all our hearts ❤️

We hope your weekend is full of puppy (or kitty) cuddles, just like Brittney and little Frankie here! 🥰 Have you ever seen a cuter Golden girl??
Which fur babies are you spending your weekend with?
Tika has been busy filing (meowing) and faxing (snoozing) all morning… what a hard working kitty! She could be our new receptionist!
What do you think, should we hire her?

Sarge was so happy and excited to meet his new friend on the trail… and then much less excited at the clinic later 😅
Porcupines do not hibernate, but they do keep close to their dens over winter. Now that the weather is nicer, it’s more likely you may encounter one out on the trails!
Dogs most often get quills stuck in their snouts and on their forelimbs as they try to walk up and greet their new “pal” - don’t try to remove the quills at home yourself! They are often barbed, and much easier and less painful for the veterinarian to remove under sedation.
We are glad we could be there for Kevin and his community when they needed us ❤️
A week has passed but Dave Choukalos still can't bring himself to sweep the sand out of his truck — evidence of the daily trek the retiree made for years across the beach on Okanagan Lake to feed Kevin the goose.
We are glad we could be there for Kevin and his community in their time of need ❤️

Happy Easter! From Jenny the Bunny, and all of us here at Fairfield! 🐣🐰🌸
We hope you have a lovely long weekend with your faimies! Remember: keep Easter chocolates away from your dogs, and Easter lilies away from your cats this weekend!

When Stevie came to see us, all she wanted was ATTENTION!! Any way she could get it! She was climbing into laps, rolling around, showing her belly, and asking for scratches any way she could get them! Good girl Stevie, we are happy to oblige!

Marrow bones are fun for dogs to chew on, however they can easily get stuck around their lower jaw… and then they’re not so easy to get off again at home!
Our staff are very practiced at the best techniques for removing marrow bones with as little discomfort to the patient as possible. Please do not try this at home, serious damage can be done to the jaw if not performed properly by trained professionals.
If your dog gets a marrow bone stuck around their jaw, pop down any time of day or night so we can help out!
Oxford has a very important phone call to make… but can you please dial for him? His furry little paws aren’t cooperating 😆
Do your pets ever “help” you with tasks around the house? Like folding laundry (laying on your clean clothes) or making dinner (begging with puppy dog eyes)? We know our pets like to get involved with everything we do!
A huge THANK YOU to Keeva for coming in for her very first blood donation!
Every donor in our blood bank must be blood typed and pass a blood screening process, as well as meet our donation criteria: to be of good disposition, weigh more than 55lbs, be up to date on their core vaccinations, and be on regular parasite prevention medications.
Keeva passed with flying colors, and now she is part of our regular rotation of donors! Sometimes, donors are also asked to come in on an emergency basis to donate when a critical patient comes in. Thank you for helping save lives Keeva!! ❤️❤️❤️

Happy Thanksgiving! 🎉 We hope you get to share lots of love and treats with your family, like Fern here! Remember to keep high-fat snacks away from pets this holiday weekend, such as ham, fatty pieces of turkey, or bacon. As much as we want to share our holiday meals, these items can be too much on our pups’ systems, and cause significant GI upset, or conditions like pancreatitis. Chocolate and items sweetened with the artificial sweetener Xylitol are also toxic, and should be kept out of reach. How are you celebrating with your family this weekend? Show us pics of your pets’ holiday plans! #fairfieldanimalhospital #dog #dogsofkelowna #pomeranian #pompuppy #pomeranianpuppy #thanksgiving #happythanksgivng
