Need You Now Equine

Need You Now Equine Not for Profit Feedlot Horse Community Group. Please read the FAQ. Many people have suggested that I set up a FB group for this project. We must work together!
(213)

Tracey takes down information on horses from the feedlot and we share their pictures and stories in hopes they can find new homes. I have thought very long and very hard about doing such a huge undertaking and what this would mean to me and my family. This project has taken up so much time already and the commitment is huge, and it has only been a week into it! The response has been amazing, peopl

e have been calling from the western provinces trying to help re-home these horses. There have been many offers of help, we have a whole group of people willing to trailer the horses for little above gas. There are also stables that are willing to allow the use of their stables for drop off around the Toronto area so if need be a group drop can be made and people with their own trailers can pick up their horses. And there are people willing to help board short-term. We are limiting the excuses I have heard from people about the cost of shipping amongst other things. Arrangements can be made to help anyone willing to re-home a horse, we will work with you to try and get a horse to you. Now about this group and what I expect from people. If this project is to work everyone must be willing to help these horses! This project is not all on me! I need all the help I can get and believe me I am not above asking for it and at times demanding it from people I trust! I will not sugar coat this. THESE HORSES ARE NOT GOING TO AUCTION, THEY HAVE BEEN THERE DONE THAT AND ARE NOW SITTING IN THE FEED-LOT WAITING FOR THE KILL PLANT TO TAKE THEM! Everyone talks about "OMG what a terrible thing! What can I do! This is so wrong! Poor animals!" well guess what! You have a chance to help out now, and this isn't one of those times to procrastinate and do it tomorrow, tomorrow will be too late for some! How can you help? If you can't give any a home then network them. We have the technology now to get information to people in a matter of seconds, if you have time to sit on FB and send pics of funny jokes to friends then take the time to click on a horse's pic and share with someone. Just because that person is not looking for a horse doesn't mean that someone they know isn't! This is life or death, you can help choose life! I will not tolerate backstabbing or anti slaughter rants. You need to let someone know you are anti-slaughter, post on your own page, this is not the place for that. Put your efforts into helping re-home a horse and don't take up space in this group unless you can keep your anti-slaughter opinions to yourself. You will be removed! This must remain a positive group, more will get accomplished if we all spend less time being negative! I do not want videos posted on here of the slaughter houses and how a horse is killed...people want to see that YouTube is loaded with it! Check it out there....If someone posts on here that they would like to see a video, not a problem ask and you will be overloaded on YOUR FB page with videos. But not on here! However you can post about horses in need of homes but do not use this group for posting of horses that have a safe and happy home, there are classified FB pages for that. Anyone feels the need to bad mouth this group and say that we are not going about re-homing horses in the right way and you have a different idea, please let us know but do not hide behind a fake internet name on another forum and put us down. I am an ADULT I will try to conduct myself in such a manner and take criticism head on. I am a big girl now....I can handle it! I expect the same from others! Show some compassion! If there was more compassion in this world then young, sound, old horses would not be ending up in this situation. This project would not be needed! Everyone deserves an opinion, but do not think that everyone needs to agree with you! It would be better to suggest what your opinion is than to force it on everyone! Now the reason why this is happening, the horses. Who they are: young, old, sound and sane, unsound, some are neglected, some are beautiful well cared for, believe me there is no discrimination here/ Every horse imaginable can end up in the feed-lot. The horses that we will try to re-home will be the sound ones and young ones. It is not right to have to chose which ones live or die but there has to be limits, most people do not want and old lame horse or even a young lame horse. If by chance someone does wishes to re-home an unsound horse then please let me know and I will try to help. We cannot re-home every one so need to draw a line somewhere. I cannot guarantee soundness in a horse that looks to be sound, there is a limited amount of time that I have to view these horses. I do not necessarily get to see them outside the pens of the feed-lot. I can ask to view them outside but sometimes this requires a return visit. I will do my best to make sure they are sound but with any horse there is always that risk. Saneness: Much the same, these animals are in pens filled with other horses, all ages and sizes and ALL temperaments, You cannot begin to imagine how different a horse can act when surrounded by unknown horses. I will do my best to make sure that these horses are sane, but cannot guarantee it, they are afraid and have been through so much within a short period of time. It can blow any living thing's mind. I myself would much rather get bucked off a $400 horse than a $15,000 horse, at least I would have money to send the $400 horse for training. There are NO FREE HORSES here! There are the meat price horses which are unsound then there are the prices on the sound ones...I DO NOT set the prices! Do not ask if the prices are negotiable! They are not! The prices are reasonable. Just because you think that these horses are going to kill anyway that the prices should be a lot lower, that is not the way it works. Don't ask me why...I haven't a clue, but I do understand that sound horses should be worth more than unsound horses. Who I am dealing with...this is where it is no one's business but mine! I have given my word that I will never tell. You feel the need to ask, don't expect a response! All you need to know is that these people have given me permission to help them find homes for some horses. Yes that sounds really unbelievable, a meat dealer trying to find homes for horses...go figure has the world ended!!? They trust me to allow me into their world, a world that is hated, I will not lose this trust, the horses will be the losers in the end if I am not allowed back. These people are not terrible rotten scum of the earth humans, this is their living, their job, not the best or easiest job in the world but they do care. If you don't think they care then let me tell you about them. They will hire a rider to come into their feed-lot and ride the horses that appear to be sound. Yes, they pay someone to see if the horse is broke to ride and judge their temperament. If the horse appears unsound then it is deemed a kill... yes sad but do you want to buy it? They will give every chance possible to a horse including keeping it an extra week in hopes it can be sold to a private person instead of meat, this will not always happen, there are more horses than people wanting to buy. I will not allow any bad mouthing of the "meat man" they did not put these horses in this situation their past owners did but the "meat man" is giving the horses more of a chance than the owner did! About me: I have been around animals my entire life. I am a dairy farmer, I work with animals every single day, I have been around sickness in animals, death anything you can imagine I have been around. I do not judge people and do not wish to judge anyone. I have had horses for the last 35 years and have been involved in different horse oriented projects. I am still not an expert and will never try to be or claim to be. How this will work: I will go to the feed-lot and see the horses and take pictures of the ones that I think will find homes quickly. Once again, wrong to pick and choose which ones won't make it out, but I need to think clearly and I know that not every horse can be homed in a short period of time. I will post pictures and a description of each one. What I need everyone who wants to help do is network these horse. They do not have weeks to wait for a home, some will only have days till kill. At times I will be able to bring a few home and MAYBE get better pictures and videos and a clearer idea of their temperaments and suitability, this is time consuming as well so do not waste my time or anyone else's time. I cannot say anything more about each horse than what I have in their description. I have seen them for maybe 10 minutes. NO ONE WILL EVER BE ALLOWED TO GO TO THE FEED-LOT. You may not even get to ride your horse till you get it home but at least that horse made it out alive! These people do offer solutions to issues you may have with your horse, if you find the horse has issues when you do get him/her home they can be returned and you can pick another horse, might be more expensive but you get a horse, not your money back! Now I think you have some clue about what we have set out to accomplish...not be negative, but positive that we can make a difference in a horse's life. As 1 person I cannot do this but as a group there is really not much we can't do together.

Everyone needs to read this and understand that a lot of horses end up shipping to auctions and slaughter because someone didn't want to make the decision to do what needed to be done for their equine friend. Euthanization is sometimes the kindest thing for a horse that " needs special care and therefore I need to find it a new home"
Do what is right for your horse, not what is right for you!!

I give credit where credit is due.
Tammar equine came to OLEX today, a meat sale, and bought 5 drafts , which certainly would have been destined for slaughter after the Christmas holidays.

I even think the meat guys are happy she bought them because now they don't need to feed them for two weeks.

They also purchased two ponies.

Good job, nice to see horses getting onto a trailer headed in a different direction!!

I guess at some point I need to say something about the interesting day at Carson's auction this past Saturday, December 17th.
Not sure where to begin.

Certain auctions are considered " meat auctions" this does not mean that good sound broke horses do not go through these types of auctions. They definitely do, all the time. Hell I have many on my farm that have been sold at " meat auctions" that are even registered, extremely well broke to ride and sound to boot!
I have more awesome horses on my farm that have come from meat auctions than seasonal auctions such as Carson's or Biylea.

Just because there are horse auctions doesn't mean those auctions are meat auctions.

Just because a horse is sold at an auction doesn't mean that horse is not good and it also doesn't mean that horse will be shipped for slaughter.

Carson's IS NOT a meat auction.
Seriously how many meat auctions have a printed catalogue or an online catalogue with a description and sometimes the pedigree of the horse to be sold.
Even the person who is selling the horse at Carson's has their name printed in the catalogue.
Just think about how much of a witch hunt that would be if the names of the sellers were printed up and everyone who attended a meat auction such as OLEX saw the name.

At a meat auction , it is seldom likely that you can speak with the owner of the horse and not very often there is any info provided about the horses going thru.
You take your chances buying at any auction but at a meat auction well, chances are even less .

At a sale like Carson's you can talk to the seller, even ride the horse or see how it rides and handles the hub bub of the venue.

You can get a pretty good idea if the horses are sound and sane and healthy.

At a meat auction, you can sort of check for soundness but that is only if you can get the horse out of the pen without getting run over by the other horses wanting to come out of the pen to.

Most horses at meat auctions are sold by the pound.
Some exceptions are horses with awesome love notes or on occasion ridden into the ring.
Ponies and minis are sold by the dollar unless they are large ponies or very heavy medium ponies. These are sold by the pound.

The most noticeable difference between a meat auction and a horse auction ( for lack of a better description) is the fact a meat auction always has a weigh scale and a screen that shows the weight of a horse because horses are sold by the pound.

Carson's and Biylea and Claremont auctions sell ALL horses by the dollar. They don't have a weigh scale.

Now with all this being different between the auctions doesn't mean the meat buyers are not at those sales.
Of course they are, they are at every sale. It is what they do.
People who work in offices go to office parties or hang out with people from the office.
Trade workers have more in common with other trade workers.

A killbuyer is also a dealer. They don't miss auctions because that is part of their business.

They buy and sell horses and some sell cows or sheep or goats.

They will always have good riding horses on hand as yes, many people do still buy from dealers and many people do sell straight to dealers.
Dealers will pick out their best string of horses to take to auctions like Carson's and Biylea because they know the buyers there are of a different mindset than the majority of the buyers at a meat sale.
Most of the time the buyers have more money to spend at Carson's and Biylea.
They want to see how a horse rides or handles everything. They want to talk to the sellers .

This is exactly why the killbuyer/dealers want, more money, so they know at these types of sales they can bring horses and sell them.

It is the same reason why the sellers choose auctions like Carson's and Biylea and Claremont to sell their horses at, most of the time they get more money for their horse or horses.

I have seen comments about how there were three meat dealers at Carson's this past Saturday.

No there were only two. Not every dealer is a meat buyer and the two meat buyers who were in attendance were selling horses and buying horses for clients or resale.

They never bid up any homes or rescues as meat dealers.
One did bid up his own horses just to get a better price but not because he wanted his horse back to kill.
That is how auctions work so don't get offended if someone bids you up on a horse they own. Or a horse the dealer themselves have clients for.

I want to clarify a few stories I have heard about what happened at Carson's.

Yes one dealer who is also a killbuyer bought 11 horses ( no minis and no ponies) these horses were not bought for meat!! At the price that he paid on the majority of them he certainly wasn't buying for meat. At the prices the majority of horses ( not ponies or minis) sold for were well above meat price. This was not a meat auction remember.

14 horses did not load onto one trailer and ship for meat.

The young lady that was shoved was not shoved by a meat dealer lol

With so many people moving horses into the ring and horses not wanting to go in the in gate, s**t happens and people get shoved.
It is to be expected at any large animal auction if you are anywhere near where the action is.

This last part is for anyone who wants to go to a sale like Carson's or Biylea.

Take the time to read the catalogue.

These are the key words people need to understand and could very well mean a horse is at risk.

Great companion
Light riding only
Older
Any horse that is 5-10 yrs old and it says " not broke"
Hasn't been ridden in a few years.

Breeds to take note of that the majority of buyers are not looking for.

Standardbred
Standardbred x
Arab or Arab cross unless they ride very quiet and have some size to them
Sometimes thoroughbreds are not very high on buyers lists and also that depends of which sale they are at and how they ride.

Any young crossbred horse that is still a stud.

Not all auctions are the same. Not all auctions are meat auctions.
Not all horses bought at auctions should be labeled as " rescue" whether they are bought at a meat auction or the non meat auctions

Just because someone sells their horse at Carson's doesn't mean they didn't care for it or love the damn horse.

So exactly why did the horse need to be rescued??!

The seller sold their horse and the buyer bought that horse. There was no rescuing involved.

The horses that needed to be " rescued" were let go.

It doesn't matter that the order of go was screwed up. The horses were there to be viewed before the sale started, the owners were there to talk to and find out about the horses.

I know, let the drama begin. But ask yourself, were you at Carson's to know the story or are you just reading the never ending comments on Facebook and therefore thinking you know what really happened?

I will be the first person to admit that all or at least most rescues do amazing work and there is a time and a place that horses do need to be rescued.

SOLD ****************

this is a super nice 2yr old stud that just went through auction on Tuesday.
Amazing ground manners, very well handled and quiet. Picks up feet. Trots in hand to the point we think he may have shown in halter classes.
Stands 15.2-15.3hh already.
No papers.
No idea of breed but he looks like he could very well be a tbxwb, he is bigger b***d and has solid fair size hooves.

Whatever he is, he has one amazing temperment and lots of chrome for the show ring.
Sorry but that is all I know about him. I have his history since Tuesday till Thursday, now someone else needs to give him a longer history.

Both of these young horses will be going to their new home today.
Off to bigger and better things babies!!!

In need of a home. Coming two yr old gelding and filly.

Gelding is the chestnut and will be two in January. He stands 15.2-15.3hh. he is going to be a very tall and solid boy once filled in and topped out. Has been saddled.
Leads, ties, trailers, well handled.
He does have a club foot but does not affect him and it isn't not very severe.

Bay filly will be two in March. She is 15.1. As quiet as they come. Very well handled, ties, trailers, loves to be groomed. Beautiful kind eye on this girl with the temperament to match.
She lifts all 4 feet and has been tacked.

Filly is appendix but NOT papered!!

Gelding looks like a warmblood cross but it is anyone's guess what his breeding is.

They are $600 EACH

This is a courtesy posting for another meat dealer.
Trailering can be arranged along the 401 corridor.
Homes are needed asap!!

Please understand the above info is all I have. They are babies but they have been handled and are well behaved.

This is the Southern Comfort's pony friend. She is so very sweet and nothing bothers her. She will be going with Southern Comfort or Dixie, to a lady named Tanya Boyd.

This was a group effort between Tanya and Mindy Lovell and quite a few other people who have donated money.

For those people who don't believe anything good can be found in a feedlot or at auction, please take a look at this pony and her friend Dixie.
Both are sound, both are kid friendly, both are VERY well broke. Dixie is passported and has taken care of many riders in the Hunter ring.

The pony is one of the most well mannered ponies I have had the privilege of handling.

You know the saying about some people, No matter what the circumstances, they always do everything with a smile" well this pony is a happy, happy girl!!!!

I do not consider Dixie, the tb or her pony friend " rescues".
They have fallen back a step but are now headed back to better times.

They just needed a lot of helping hands and caring hearts to get them over the hump:)

They were not sent to auction because they are old or crippled or young and unhandled.

sold

Dixie Compliance stands 16.1-16.2hh. She is an ottb but has had many years off the track and has been retrained for the Hunter ring.

She is also known as Southern Comfort in the Trillium world. She is passported to show in the Trillium level ( passport did not come with her)

This mare has shown in the Ottawa area so maybe a few people will remember her.
All the above info comes from someone who knows this mare well and has seen the mare in the Hunter rings locally.
Mindy Lovell

I , myself, remember the name "Southern Comfort" from when my daughter used to show in Ottawa.

Personally from what I have learned about this mare after handling her over the last week is she is well mannered on the ground, friendly, simple and quiet.

She is sound and a beautiful mover.

She has been well taken care of over the years.

She loves her pony friend that she came with and is very gentle with her.

This mare isn't owned by a killbuyer because her racing people let her down, she is 18yrs old, hasn't been near a track in a very LONG time.

Regardless of why she is where she is, she needs someone to give her another chance.

Info from the last owners was: used for lessons and showing, kid friendly.

Currently there are no videos of her but there are enough people out there that should know her and will vouch for her past history, I hope they will.

She is $1200 includes hst

This lucky young filly found a great home yesterday!

Thank you to the terrific, caring ladies that stepped up for her and will train her.

She has already proved she will be a rock steady horse yesterday.

She walked off a trailer and was asked to immediately walk onto another trailer and all this in a very strange noisy place.

She stopped and quietly looked around, never spooked or got bold or crazy, she just quietly stood still and took in the scenery and the noise of cars, trucks.

She wasn't sure of the new trailer but once she saw the pail of treats there were no second thoughts😃

She walked on and never looked back!

Onward and upward from this day forward pretty baby!!

Beautiful 3yr old paint filly, no papers so grade.
She is built like a tank!!! She is currently 14.3-15hh and still has growing left to do.
She is well handled, leads, ties, feet have been trimmed.
Friendly and easy to catch, likes scratches.
Is sound. Legs are straight.

Shipping date is next week sometime.

She is a baby and someone has failed her.

Don't have any history on her at all.

Buy her and make history with her.

The basics have been done, at least she leads, not like a lot of other babies that I have seen.

$1000 includes HST.

15-17 yr old, 15hh Appy mare.
VERY well broke. Spins, backs up, neck reins, lopes, rides alone. Loves to be groomed and fussed over.
Has been well handled and received the right training.
Always happy to see a human friend. Will stand at the gate and wait for someone to come see her.
No issues tacking up or mounting.

Out with a mixed herd and gets along well with all. She is not dominant.

She does have a bit of a hitch in her hind end. ( Age does that sometimes, this I know:)

I have been riding her around the farm and she has been great, no spook, goes where she is asked to go.

Best suited to someone with some riding experience ( she MAY be beginner safe but is the beginner horse safe??)

She is as gentle and well mannered as they come but still an animal.

Sometimes the frustration of dealing with slaughter bound horses gets to the point that blocking out everything to do with the whole business is easier than dealing with it.

Seriously, I never have issues with the horses, they don't send themselves to auction or sell themselves to dealers.

People on the other hand,........ sometimes I have no idea how some of them think or I guess don't think!!!

Frustration seems to be the normal feeling among those who deal closely with this business.

Today is one of those days where frustration sets in as does anger and sadness.

What is the purpose of people who want to try their hand at breeding and raising a foal.

I don't mean responsible breeders who know what they are doing or people who want a foal to be their next riding partner. I have no issues with people breeding horse but i have huge issues with people who have no clue that keeping a two yr old stud c**t running with his sister won't produce a foal or the people who think that they have a mare so she needs to be bred.
Sorry people but that foal does not come already halter broke nor do they know how to lift their feet or for that matter know anything other than how to look cute for their first year or life.

Eventually a foal does need to be taught how to lead, stand, tie, not bite and get this, when they grow up to be a size and age to be ridden, they actually are not already broke to ride.

Oh and get this, if that foal is a stallion, he will need to be gelded or voila!!! He will breed his Momma who may have his sister/daughter within a few yrs time.

Watching these two babies stand on the trailer today waiting for their end, has me beyond frustrated, angry as hell at the person who allowed them to be born and then as a result, allowed them to die as yearlings!!

NOT handled, the stud NOT gelded.

Maybe they had a chance if they had been handled, halter broke and taught things other babies that RESPONSIBLE breeders teach their foals.

This has nothing to do with killbuyers are bad, these babies were sold at an auction. Someone chose to breed their mare but assumed their responsibility stopped at that point.

This has everything to do with what is wrong with wanting a foal that you can only commit to as long as he/she stays a cute little baby!

These are not the first babies nor the last I have seen load and go for slaughter.

THIS should not be happening because of stupidity!!

There is one thing I can guarantee, if someone chooses to breed their mare because she is a mare, no other reason needed, and they do nothing with that resulting stupid decision, then choose to sell that baby ( whether as a yearling or as a 5 yr old) and he/she has never been handled then understand there is no one going to cover your stupid a** and save that baby at the auction.

These cute little babies NEED work and handling or they become big unhandled animals that no one wants and then they end up in a place that no matter how cute they were as a baby, they still die!!

This post is for anyone that can put themselves in the same shoes as the person who wanted these two yearlings but only when they were cute little babies.

One stupid decision is all it took to send these two to slaughter!!

The decision to breed only because you own a mare!!

The worse thing is, the person that did this will probably never know how their lives ended and these two are just in a continuos string of more babies to go for slaughter.

HOME FOUND!!!

Introducing Rural Roots, 14 yr old, 16hh ottb gelding.
What you see is what you get. He is quiet, sweet and friendly.
Perfect gentleman to handle.
Leads, ties, lifts feet.

Not spooky, does what is asked.

We pulled him away from his friends, threw the lead around his neck and my daughter crawled up onto him and away they went. ( yes I know, no helmet) this was not a planned ride and her helmet was at a different location.
He is extremely well broke, listens very well to just the leg and seat. In this video he only has a halter and lead rope.

At some point he may have been used for a lesson horse as he gives that impression, adapts easily to the rider.

He will need a trim as his toes are long and he does stumble over them.

When he was sold at auction, it was said that he gets stiff and will become unsound if stalled so 24/7 turnout is the best.
He is fat currently.

He gets along with mares and geldings and holds his own with other horses.

Located near Ottawa Ontario.

China Nights is a 21 yr old thoroughbred mare.
She was used as a broodmare for a number of years but not recently.

She is approx 16hh with a big frame, needs some groceries but not thin.

Sweet, easy to handle and gets along with other horses.

At the moment I do not know if she is sound but will try to find out shortly.

She walks well at least.

$1100 includes hst

Two Points is a 4 yr old, approx 15.3-16hh ottb.
She is quiet and good to handle.
Could use some weight but not skinny by any means.
She appears sound,
She does have puffy fetlock with a bit of heat. Also has an old scar/scab on her left hock which is not an issue.
Has raced so yes she is broke to ride but may only be track broke.

Currently the footing is very icy so we cannot assess her under saddle.
$1000 hst included.

I am asked ALL the time "how long does a horse have" "when does the horse ship".

I keep telling people that I never know, it depends on if there is room on a load going to the slaughter plant or as the case is right now, horses are now being fed hay and this is an extra expense that most kill buyers don't want.

Go ahead and attack these kill buyers all you want but it is not them who sold the horses at auction nor is it them whom sold the horse direct to them, nor is it them who bred the mares or didn't get their " great 2 yr old mongrel stud" gelded. Or sent their unbroke 5 yr old or green broke 10 yr old to auction.

In the first place thinking that your horse is going to get a "good home" by sending it to auction is just WRONG.
Go sit at an auction and do your research before sending your beloved horse to auction.

Just see how many "homes" are actually in attendance, Not many I can assure you.

I know many people understand that when they send a horse to auction it is just a "normal" way of selling.

They know full well what may happen to their livestock and that is their choice, I do not have any issues with that.

It is the ones who think their pet horse will get a home and then blame everyone else that their horse went for meat when they didn't take the time to research how auctions actually work.

I have spent the last 4 yrs of my life working with different dealers and kill buyers ( yes most of the time they are kill buyers/dealers) as they KNOW there is more money selling privately than to the slaughter plant (most of the time but in some cases no)

I have seen these people buy a stud at an auction and have him gelded because " he rode and was young and would be a good riding horse)

I have seen these people allow horses to go to a home without payment but with the home's word they will pay for them.

My biggest pet peeve is the people who complain about the price on horses that the kill buyers/dealers are selling privately.

I have shown actual bills on here of what horses cost and have broke down the pricing , yet some people still need to complain.

NYNE has two mares that have been posted for the entire summer. One is listed at $625, that includes the HST. She is broke to ride, she is quiet, she is healthy and fat. WOW if you find an issue with that price then please don't even look into doing anything with horses. The purchase price is the cheapest part of owning a horse.

YES money is being made by the kill buyers/dealers if their horses are posted on NYNE or anywhere on the internet. DUH!!

Do you work for free?
Do you pay for gas?
Do you pay for car repairs?
Do you pay for anything and everything in life?

Do you go to auctions and buy horses or just expect someone to do all that work for you so you can buy a horse from a dealer for the same price he pays?

I have so many "pet peeves" that the list on here will never end.

Currently my biggest one is the fact that I have seen so many young, unbroke horses end up shipping for meat because people just keep breeding and then do nothing with the horse for a few years and then send them to auction.

I have been told that next week any horse in the feedlot that is not broke to ride will ship.

I understand the reason behind this, they cost money to feed and winter is around the corner.

I will be posting them with info , hopefully tonight.

The two mares that have been listed all summer will also be shipping.

Next time someone tells you they want to breed their mare to their cute little mongrel stud, please make them understand what can happen should they decide to not keep their responsibility for life.

Note:
Anyone that is interested in a horse, please call or text 613-894-6055.
Do not expect me to contact you as i never see all the requests from people wanting me to contact them.
Putting in the extra effort of contacting me about a horse also shows me that just maybe
You are actually interested and not being a tire kicker .

This note is NOT meant to single any individual out. It is an "fyi note"

Also messaging this page works as well.

This past summer I did not post many horses, this was due to the fact I needed time to regroup and breath after the tragic death of my brother.
Just because I took a step back from NYNE did not mean I stopped helping the horses coming and going.
Several horses managed to find homes because people would contact me in search of their next partner and other rescue groups also stepped up and helped place the horses with the strongest need of help. To those who know who you are THANK YOU!!

Summer is over and life continues to go on for me and my family.
Big changes have occurred within my farming life, time will tell if it is for the better but I do know that I now have way less cows on the family's farm property and WAY more horses.
Every single pasture we used for our cows now contains horses! ( I don't own them)

Some of these horses I have looked after all summer and some I have wanted to keep.
I have managed to add 3 to my own personal group and most likely will add a cpl more before winter but I will not keep them (cant afford that ) they will be for sale BUT these are NOT true to the term (rescue horses)
They are well broke, well loved at one time by past owners, well taken care of equines. ( s**t happens)
We have used them on trails this summer/fall, some have been restarted in the ring, we know these horses and have given them "history". I have spoken to SOME of the past owners as well.

NYNE will still be posting the horses in the feedlot and I guess sometimes in other feedlots as well but I will also have horses under a different heading (not at risk)
These will be the horses that we know more about and have worked with more and tried to hold onto for longer and some will have more training put into them. Prices will be higher than the "meat horses", the ones that are living on borrowed time.

On a sad note. With the days getting shorter and the nights cooler, this means that horses that are given an extra chance before they ship will not have as long before they ship. Grass is almost done.

I learned a very long time ago that I cannot save every single animal in need, but I also learned that if I don't keep trying to help a few, I lose my way. ALWAYS have to try!!

Now I will go back to trying to help the ones I can, but this time I have an angel to watch over me and to guide me;)

Anyone want to guess how many horses are currently on my farm lol

There are currently several horses listed as needing homes. Some I have had at my farm for the summer.
They are fat, healthy and in VERY strong need of a home before the weather turns nasty and grass is done.

Two are super nice pony mares, both 15-17 yrs old and broke to ride and quiet.
One is an Appy and the other is qhx.
Please check them out again.
Yes both need a refresher but they are ready and willing, just need a rider.

All horses still posted and that don't have " home found" in their description are still available.

Recently NYNE hasn't posted many horses.
The truth is, prices have been on the rise at ALL auctions.
The slaughter plants are paying more.
Just because NYNE hasn't been posting horses doesn't mean there are not as many horses going through auctions, it also doesn't mean that horses that go through auctions are magically finding homes or just not being sold.

Nothing has changed at the auctions except the price increase. NO HOMES.

I was at OLEX this past Tuesday ( I am a farmer, I take my sheep and cows to OLEX) and watched in disbelief as nice looking and sound riding horses, young horses, even a very nice Haflinger gelding were all bought by the kill buyers!!

Yet the stands were full of people.

A few ponies were bought by homes and a young perch filly and two riding horses were bought by Steph Clift and later she went and talked to another KB about the Haflinger gelding, and she purchased him.

Yesterday a load of slaughter bound horses left the pens at OLEX, these horses went to one slaughter plant

This morning another load of slaughter bound horses left for the second slaughter plant.

Both loads owned by two different kill buyers.

Each kb bought a mix of horses, drafts, riding horses, cart horses, 2 two year old TB geldings were split.

Some of the horses on the load that left this morning would have been posted on NYNE but as it stands the ones that are posted now are having a hard time finding homes at the prices they are.

I have been told by a few different people that the prices will continue to rise, going to $1lb is not out of the question.

Tuesday horses were upwards of .55-.69 lb some lower.

Only one horse was pulled off this weeks load, she was bought for a client of the dealer.

Once again the slaughter plant wins this week.
