The veterinarian-client-patient relationship (VCPR) is the basis for interaction among veterinarians, their clients, and their patients and is critical to the health of animals.
Essentially, this means that you have a relationship with your veterinarian, and they understand your operation, have been out to your farm, know your management practices, and know your herd well enough to provide meaningful advice and oversight. Once the VCPR is established, your veterinarian will determine the medical need for each prescription, and document it in the medical record. If these conditions are met, a prescription can be issued. The prescription will be specific to the animals being treated, the particular drug, dosage, duration, directions for use, and any withdrawal time or other precautions or warnings.
For our cattle producers a VCPR does require a yearly farm visit to allow for any updated information or new additions to the herd to be documented in a medical note.
While it has mostly been used for large animal clients it is also used in small animals as well but instead of a home visit it is a yearly health exam for the pet to acquire things such as prescription products.
If you would like to book your VCPR visit give us a call today!
Purina Veterinary Diets Essential Care line will be changing their packaging as well as some tweaks to their formulas as well. We advise all clients that to keep some of their previous bags on hand in order to do a proper 7 day food transition to the new bags when they arrive in the next coming months. You can also add Purina Fortiflora to the top of the foods for extra help to ease any upset stomachs that may occur.
Over the next several months you will see the transition from the old packaging to the new packaging you see below, each bag will have a appropriate feeding guide on the back to help transition and maintain your pet on the food.
The new formula will include:
- Healthy Microbiome Claim; Enhanced with COLOSTRUM to aid in the maintenance of a healthy gut microbiome and improve digestion.
- Digestive Health Claim; Natural prebiotic fiber, sourced from chicory root, helps promote digestive health and maintain stool quality
Recently the clinic got the pleasure of raising our very own Painted Lady Butterflies! Our lovely RVT Kaylee was in charge of the project and took the most excellent care of the caterpillar's right from the start and made sure they had all the nutrients needed to grow. The experience was a lot of fun and great for team building! Thank you Shanti from our Fairview Vet Clinic for ordering the butterfly kit for us.
What goes on with your pet when they are admitted to the clinic for a surgery? Our veterinarians and registered vet techs are with them every step of the way. 🐱🐶🐾

Yearly health exams are a vital part of your animals health and here's why.
The next time your dog is outside, be on the look out for foxtail seeds or grass-awns. These seeds are barbed and can make their way into your dog via eyes, nose, and paws. With the seeds being barbed, they are difficult to remove and will need veterinary intervention. If you think your dog has come into contact with grass-awns and is irritated, contact us at 780-624-1606 or at www.peacerivervet.com
