Weekend Seminar with Derrick for Dog Owners and Professionals!
Two day event - June 29th & 30th - Hosted by Aloha K9 Training
Join Derrick for an exciting weekend seminar designed for both dog owners and professionals. We offer two types of spots: working spots and audit spots.
Working Spots: Bring your dog and work hands-on with Derrick throughout the weekend. We will cover obedience, relationship-building, behavior, and more!
Each working spot allows for one additional person to attend.
Audit Spots: Attend the seminar to observe and ask questions without bringing a dog.
This event welcomes dogs of all training levels. Working dogs will follow a 15-25 minute rotation schedule, known as a crate and rotate system. If your dog does well in the car, that is the ideal place for them between training sessions.
Alternatively, if your dog is well-behaved and quiet, you can bring a crate for them in the event space. Dogs in the venue must not be a large distraction. If your dog is not crate trained, they can stay in your vehicle until their turn.
The seminar includes appropriate breaks, including a lunch break each day.
Ensure your dog is comfortable with the crate or vehicle rotation schedule to make the most of this valuable training experience.
Make sure you do your homework. Not all collars are created equal.

Previous conditioing of some behaviours such as sit - down - place will aid us in conditioning proper collar communication.
Proper collar fit is important. The collar probes should be in constant contact to avoid an aversive situation.

The Healing Power of Human Canine Interaction
Did you know that spending time with our four-legged friends can do wonders for our health and well-being? Scientific studies have shown that human and canine interaction has incredible benefits, from reducing stress to improving our overall quality of life.
Study Spotlight: According to a study published in the Journal of Psychosomatic Medicine, spending just a few minutes petting a dog can lower cortisol levels (the stress hormone) and increase oxytocin (the "love hormone") in our bodies. This leads to a significant decrease in stress, anxiety, and even blood pressure.
Another study conducted at the University of Missouri found that interactions with dogs can boost our mood by releasing endorphins and serotonin, which are neurotransmitters responsible for feelings of happiness and well-being.
Not only do dogs bring us joy and comfort, but they also encourage us to lead more active lives. Taking them for walks or playing fetch provides us with regular exercise, improving cardiovascular health and promoting weight management.
So, whether you're cuddling with your furry companion, enjoying an outdoor adventure, or simply laughing at their silly antics, remember that the benefits go beyond just happiness—they're supporting your health too!
Tag a friend who needs to hear this. Let’s spread the incredible positive effects of human-canine interaction to combat

Both dogs now enjoy off leash freedom on the acreage with structure in training emphasizing recall and boundary’s.
With the help of GPS fencing system and dedicated training time this family can truly enjoy their acreage worry free.
When the entire family gets involved in training the results speak for themselves.
Fibo “The Golden” enjoys a healthy relationship with all members of the family, especially with the kids.
Tess “ the Forever dog” was among the first canine companions clients we trained.
Her owners were unsure as to whether or not, she would remain in their lives. Being a mix of Belgian Malinois and German Shepherd, she brought a lot to the table.
with structure, guidance, and a training plan Tess is now an integral part of their family.

Dog training in its truest form is the ability to establish effective, two way, communication wherein both participants display drive and desire in behaviour.
The goal of balanced canine training is to establish a system of communication utilizing both classical and operant conditioning.
For many balanced trainers, through that communication and via the use of tools, pressure is taught.
Most of us fret over pressure. Most don’t love it when we feel the weight of the world crashing down on us.
Because, most weren’t taught to love it.
As is in life, pressure drives us. It’s under pressure where we succeed the most.
Pressure moulds who we are.
It is experiencing pressure and subsequently the relief of that pressure that strengthens our character.
Pressure makes your heart beat.
Anything worth doing in life does.
Imagine walking in life next to your dog who is resilient because you’ve prepared them for pressure; by helping them understand it.
There are tools for every craft. A hammer can build a house or knock it to the ground. Leave it in the hands of a true professional and they will make that house a home.
Pressure creates resilience. We could all use a little more of that.

Please share.
But, more importantly.
Please listen
Do so with perspective and compassion. As your feet have never walked their miles.
For those sharing.
Live it. Feel it. It’s important.
As is in canine training, it’s the moment that pressure is overcome, where one finds resilience and strength.
Thanks for listening.

Send it. Check-in. I rarely pour from the bottle anymore. Instead, I choose to support my mental health in more productive ways. When I do pour from the bottle, it’s with a brother. In understanding and support. This is your sign to reach out to a buddy and check in. Let’s make mental health a priority together.2016 was a tough year for me. Today is a different story. Don’t choose the long term solution to a short term problem. We are losing way too many damn good men. #mentalhealthawareness #ptsd

Seriously Easy. Give them a place and reward them consistently. In others words, Show Me the Money. 💰 Pay Them in place. Create stability by reinforcing stable behaviour. You have to play with time ⏰. Reward them for staying in a behaviour like a sit or a down more. RINSE and REPEAT. There’s a ton more we can layer into this conversation. Honestly everyone’s dog desires a consistent pathway for communication. Our dogs are always striving to cohabitate well together. Pay for good behaviour. Consistently.
📍 Tip 1: Desensitize the SoundPlay doorbell sounds or knocks at a low volume, gradually increasing it. Reward your pup for staying calm, helping them get used to these sounds over time. 🎵🐾 #Desensitization #TrainingTip1🚶♂️ Tip 2: Pre-Visit ExerciseBefore guests arrive, take your pup for a nice walk to burn off excess energy. A tired dog is less likely to react excessively at the door. 🏃♀️🐶 #ExerciseEqualsCalmness #TrainingTip2🛋️ Tip 3: Stay and RewardTeach your dog to sit and stay while you open the door. Reward them for their calm behavior, gradually increasing the duration. Consistency is key! 🐕🎁 #CalmDoorGreetings #TrainingTip3🐾 Bonus Tip: Professional HelpConsider hiring a dog trainer to address the issue. They’ll tailor a plan to your dog’s needs, helping them become the well-behaved pup you’ve always wanted! 🐶💼 #ExpertAdvice #BonusTipRemember, patience and persistence are essential when training your furry friend. With these tips, you’ll be well on your way to a more peaceful doorbell experience! 🐶🚪❤️ #HappyDogHappyHome
Explaining what it's like for a dog to have ADHD requires understanding that while dogs don't have the exact same condition as humans with ADHD, there are behavioral traits that might be likened to it. ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) is a human neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by challenges with attention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. When we draw parallels between dogs and ADHD, we are talking about certain behavior patterns that resemble the symptoms of ADHD in humans. In dogs, these behaviors might be described as:1. **High Energy and Restlessness:** Dogs with "doggy ADHD" might exhibit excessive energy levels, struggle to stay calm, and have difficulty settling down.2. **Distractibility:** Similar to humans with ADHD, dogs might be easily distracted by various stimuli in their environment, making it challenging to focus on one thing at a time.3. **Impulsivity:** Dogs might act impulsively, making quick decisions without much thought or consideration of consequences.4. **Difficulty with Training:** Dogs with these traits might have trouble following commands consistently, as they may struggle to maintain focus and self-control.5. **Frequent Jumping or Excessive Barking:** Some dogs might display hyperactive behavior by jumping excessively or barking excessively without apparent reason.6. **Inability to Settle:** Just like individuals with ADHD can feel restless, dogs might find it difficult to relax and may constantly be on the move. It's important to remember that drawing direct comparisons between ADHD in humans and certain behaviors in dogs should be done with caution, as they are distinct species with different cognitive processes and neurological structures. The concept of "dog ADHD" is more of an analogy to help people understand certain hyperactive and impulsive behaviors displayed by some dogs.If you suspect your dog has behavioral issues or exhibits disruptive behaviors, it's essential to consult with a professional veterinarian
Existential feeding is all about turning mealtime into a meaningful and interactive experience for your pup. Here's how:🦾 Training While Eating: Incorporate obedience training during meals. Ask your dog to perform simple commands like sit, stay, or shake paw before getting each portion of their meal.🍽️ Scatter Feeding: Instead of using a regular bowl, scatter kibbles around the house or in the backyard. It taps into their natural scavenging instincts!👁️ Eye contact: Building value for you as a handler through eye contact pays off immensely when working in more dire action filled environment.
