Are you planning on bringing your dog to the United States soon? Here is some important info you need to know.

As of August 1st 2024, all dogs entering the U.S. must:
- be at least 6 months of age.
- have an International Organization for Standardization compliant microchip.
- appear healthy upon arrival.
- have a CDC Dog Import Form receipt (this form will only be made available by the CDC on July 15, 2024, and must be submitted through the CDC website).
- have additional documentation, which varies depending on where the dog has been in the past 6 months before entering the U.S., and the dog's rabies vaccination status.

For more information please visit the CDC website here: https://www.cdc.gov/importation/bringing-an-animal-into-the-united-states/dogs-entering-us-after-august-1.html or the Inspection Canada website here: https://inspection.canada.ca/en/animal-health/terrestrial-animals/exports/pets/united-states-america

Everyone at Vic Vet wishes Dr.McIntyre the absolute best, and will miss her presence at the clinic dearly. That includes her clients and patients.

Jaxon and his dad Brent are big Oilers fans and would have playful banter with Dr.McIntyre, who grew up cheering for the Canucks.

Dr.McIntyre was sent this adorable update “from Jaxon” recently, and it gave her a good chuckle. 🤭

“To my favourite vet,

Just wanted to give you a quick update that I am feeling much better after a rough go with my latest AHDS bout but am pretty much back to normal.

I wore my favourite sweater just for you! (Pictured)

PS. They come in many different sizes and I am sure we can find one for all your beloved pets….

Hope you are doing good and sorry about your Canucks….haha”

After much consideration, I've made the decision to embark down a new path in my veterinary career. I'll be transitioning into the role of a locum veterinarian, providing services to clinics in Regina and its surrounding areas.

It's with mixed emotions that I announce my departure from Victoria Veterinary Clinic, where I've had the privilege of working alongside a fantastic team of associate veterinarians for the past seven years. I'm grateful for the trust and support I've received from both my colleagues and our wonderful clients.

Effective immediately, I'll no longer be available for regular appointments at Victoria Veterinary Clinic. However, I'm confident that my clients and patients will continue to receive excellent care from the capable hands of my fellow associates, who share the same dedication and compassion.

Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your lives as your "other" family doctor.

Sincerely,

Dr. Katelyn McIntyre

LOST AND FOUND:

Today our receptionists found a mess in our parking lot. Looks like a little girls bag was dumped there. Unfortunately most items were paper and too soiled to keep, however we were able save this drum.

If this belongs to your child you can claim it at the clinic. Please tell us the name written on top of the drum to claim.

We hope it finds its home. 🧡

Important Notice: Community Shared Emergency Overnight Services

There are changes coming to Veterinary Medicine in Regina. There is a critical shortage of Veterinarians currently with not enough veterinarians for every pet in the Regina area. The uncertainty of after-hours care has become a growing concern.

Veterinary Clinics across the Regina area are working together and have come up with a plan to provide much needed overnight emergency care.

Note: There will be no more after hours service at the 24 Hour Animal Care Centre past 8:00pm.

Regina Clinics will be rotating their services nightly to provide on-call care. Should your pet experience an emergency after 8pm please call: (306) 761-1449

This number will transfer you directly to a Veterinary Technologist who will assess your situation and help determine if your pet is experiencing an emergency or can wait until the following morning.

Critical situations will be directed to and treated by the clinic on-call that night. Less critical situations will be triaged accordingly.

The clinics rotating emergency care are as follows:

• Albert North Veterinary Clinic • Animal Clinic of Regina • Careport Animal Hospital • Lakewood Animal Hospital • Regent Park Animal Hospital • TM’z Veterinary Clinic • Vet to Pet Animal Clinic • Veterinary Mobility Center • Victoria Veterinary Clinic • Wascana Animal Clinic • 24Hr Animal Care Centre

While a sick pet can cause distress to pet parents, only true emergencies will be able to be seen after 8pm. The overnight technician will give suggestions to help make less critical pets comfortable.

We thank you for your patience as we navigate providing our regular services along with providing after-hours care.

As some of you have already noticed, the last few weeks have brought in some exciting new changes. Namely, Victoria Vet Clinic now has a front entrance! Yup, it’s official— no more backdoor! 🎉

Clients picking up food and medications are free to come right on in, using the east facing doors at the front of the building.

Clients waiting for their pets appointments, we still require to call the clinic when you arrive and wait in your vehicle until told to come in.

You may be wondering why this is still our protocol, as COVID restrictions are well over and there is now a spacious waiting room. The simple answer is; because it works and it’s Fear Free. 🐾

During the last couple years we have noticed a significant decrease in stress and over stimulation in our patients when they don’t have to be in the waiting room with other pets. It’s a smoother experience escorting pets to rooms and pets aren’t agitated during their exams from interactions with other animals.

So please continue to call and wait with your pets, and we will continue to offer the best possible care for your pets (and oftentimes your own) physical and emotional wellbeing.

With the current heat wave it’s important to keep your pets protected.

Make sure drinking water is available to them. Kiddy pools are also a great way for dogs to have fun and keep cool!

Keep activity low, especially with animals who are overweight, prone to breathing difficulties, or your flat faced (brachycephalic) friends.

Sidewalks and streets are often much hotter than the air temperature is, so keep your pets feet protected or avoid walking on pavement. The inside of vehicles also becomes lethally hot in this weather. Never keep your pet inside a hot car.

For more information about heat stroke in your pets, and how to avoid it you can read further here: https://veterinarypartner.vin.com/default.aspx?pid=19239&id=4951333 #:~:text=Move%20your%20pet%20to%20a,are%20not%20near%20a%20bathtub.
