The Modern Gremlins story..

I have heard the term “pocket animals” before, thinking it was referring to sticking your pet hamster or rat into your pocket just because they fit in there, it never before crossed my mind that an animal would actually Want and Seek to get into your pocket or your hoodie or inside your t-shirt to stay close with you and feel your warmth and heartbeat and your smell!

Well imagine my instant love and admiration and a need to know more about these tiny nocturnal extraordinary animals called Sugar Gliders which despite their rodent like looks are actually marsupials (which also include kangaroos, koalas, wombats and possums). Marsupials is a group of mammals and so they are so much closer in their behaviours and the need of closeness and living in a little society than we could ever imagine. With their opposable thumbs and the natural need to be in momma’s pocket they are the most fascinating little creatures I’ve come across, I still stare at them in disbelief when they bark (yes, bark) at me or hang upside down like little bats and I call it my little National Geographic. I can’t help but remember when as every child I used to think Gizmo was the perfect pet and now I have a bunch of them in the house! Remember they hate “bright light, bright light”, they cannot get wet ! and you should never feed them after midnight (okay that one rule doesn’t apply ) :D

With the help of this blog I want to share my experiences and hopefully get more people interested in these incredible animals and to spread the knowledge and proper care tips .. We are getting a third glider very soon, a mosaic ringtail boy and will have joeys (babies) soon after which will expand the family and make our life even more enriched and this blog even more interesting... Stay tuned !
