Today is International Guide Dogs Day!

“It marks the establishment of the International Federation of Guide Dog Associations on 26th April 1989. International Guide Dog Day is an opportunity to celebrate the work of guide dogs around the world and raise awareness of the importance of guide dog services to help people who are blind or have low vision live life on their terms.”

Having done work experience with Guide Dogs for the Blind I’ve seen first hand how much work goes into training guide dogs and all the hard work they do behind the scenes.

Take My Lead is sad to announce that Rebecca will be hanging up her training leads for now. She wishes to thank all owners who have trusted her with their dogs and worked so hard to help them have a better future.

After 14 years she will be stepping back and only doing to occasional training. She will still be available for those who need advice as dog training and behaviour will always be her passion!

Matt will still be walking dogs as usual and Take My Lead will still provide the awesome service it always has!! 🤩

Ok so I walk over 30 different dogs over a typical week and 99% of them run AROUND my legs fine but Lola! … not so much! She’s seems to think it’s funny to run INTO me on a regular basis. I’m sure it’s Fidgets fault somehow 🤣🤣🤣😍🐶🐶

We’ve been working on Fidget’s Recall - Sit - Collar Touch - Release sequence.
This gets him to come back, focus on us and be still long enough to hold his collar/put his lead on.

This game will become a habit and a very useful life skill to have!
