Our fields at the Cotswold Dog Lodge have a fantastic history stretching back to the bronze age and beyond. There is archeological evidence of dogs having lived and worked here for thousands of years.
Our regular metal detectorists, Scot, found this Bronze Roman knife handle depicting a hare being chased by a hunting dog. A roman villa lays below the grass in the meadow in front of the house. Thankfully, today the hares are safe from our doggy guests.

Kevin had the pleasure of meeting a real Lakeland celebrity, zak the collie dog. Zak uses his good looks and charm to help raise money for the Lake District Mountain Rescue Searchdogs.
He spends much of his time in the amazing Cherrydidi in Keswick, helping to sell his range of clothing, mugs and gifts.

Kevin is sometimes criticised in the dog photography world for including collars on some of his dog portraits. He finds this exasperating because in his words it 'depends on the dog, depends on the collar'. Take the gorgeous Lizzie, for example, she looks like she wears her collar with pride. Her collar is an essential part of the portrait. And what a handsome collar it is.

Thursday's smile supplied by this handsome fella. We believe he is a cross, with a lot of Carpathian Shepherd Dog in him. A breed of livestock guarding breed native to Romania, the breed is thought to be very ancient and may be a direct descendant of the earliest livestock guarding breeds.

Congratulations Kevin "Master Photographer of the Year" West Midlands Region

Kevin took the Gold Awards in the Animal and Fine Art categories and went on to win the overall title of "Master Photographer of the Year" with his portrait of a black staff.

The award is made in "recognition of outstanding photographic skill and excellence in imaging", in the Master Photographers Association Awards. West Midlands Region.

We have had the company of a heron for the past month. He/she watches the carp in the reservoir but because of the steep sides he cannot actually get at them. Grandson Archie call him Henon. Henon spends much of his time out in the field behind the house unfazed by the Fox and her cubs who play very close. The dogs seem bemused by such a big bird living on their territory.

Its glorious to wake up to sunshine and watch the vixon and her cubs enjoying the early morning weather.

Foxes are part of the Canidae biological family that includes wolves, foxes, jackals, coyotes, and domestic dogs. But they cannot interbreed with our domestic dogs - thankfully!

If you ever catch Kevin looking at you intently, he can't help it, it's the photographer in him. He's studying how the light catches your face or analysing just how he'd photograph you. He does it every where, in town, in pubs. I'm sure it gets him into all sorts of trouble !
He also does it to dogs. And often sees human likeness in their facial features.
Take Bertie for instance, Kevin reckons he looks like the actor John Alderton.
