We had our XL Bully event on Saturday, and it was so much fun!!
We may not have had as many bullies in as we would have hoped for, but we hope we helped the ones that came 😊
We checked their microchips, discussed neutering, muzzle training, and demonstrated how to do this.
We had LOTS of treats (both the dogs and us 😍), and the owners went home with an information pack to read over at home.
We were gate crashed by a passing Shiba Inu out on a walk and Snowyy who belongs to one of our nurses. Both joined in with the fun!! ❤️
Please remember that if you need any help with muzzle training, make an appointment with one of our nurses (FREE).
There will be 10% off neutering XL bullies until the end of 2024.
If you would like any of the info that was given out on the day, please get in touch, and we would be happy to email you.
Thank you to all who came and to the staff for giving up their free time to organise this. We all felt we needed to help somehow 😊🩵

This handsome boy came in this week for his castration procedure in light of the new government guildlines on XL bully ownership.
We wanted to show a little of what is entailed when your dog would come in for this procedure to ease any worries or concerns you may have.
Ollies owners wanted to be prepared and booked him in straight away. The morning of the procedure you will book in for an admit appointment where a nurse will run through some important questions with you and will need to sign a consent form for the surgery. We then have a comfy kennel waiting for them until we are ready to perform the surgery....and usually some nurse cuddles 🤗
Castration is removal of the testicles through a small incison in the scrotum. Your best pal will go home to you the same day with pain relief medication and instructions on post-op care and are usually fully recovered within 2 weeks.
We have muzzle training advice sheets already available for you on our reception desks and are offering FREE appointments with our nurses to help with muzzle training if you need it. @dogstrust @the_blue_cross also has free advice on this available. Ollies committed owners had already picked these up from the desk that morning 👍
As a practice, we WANT YOU to be booking in for neutering NOW (age dependant, see guildlines) in preparation for this law coming in.
We are here to help you through this scary time, we don't want you to avoid coming to see us because you're worried about how you'll be greeted, and we hope this video shows this ❤️

Becoming a registered veterinary nurse takes time, dedication, and passion. That's why we appreciate our nurses each and every day.
#Vetnurse # VNAM #EmpowerOurVNs #Vetlife
The term veterinary nurse is a contentious conversation within the veterinary world.
Registered veterinary nurses and student veterinary nurses are registered with the royal college of veterinary surgeons. They are regulated by them in terms of their conduct and keeping up-to-date with training. Unfortunately, anyone can use this term, even if not qualified or registered.
Efforts have been made to change this, and we fully support this; our nursing team deserves to have their title protected and for pet owners to know your vet nurse is fully qualified to look after your beloved pet.
Registered veterinary nurses RVN and registered student nurses RSVN are always qualified and trained.

‼️Grapes and their dried varieties are common at Christmas but toxic to pets‼️
The dried varieties of these fruits are often found in our favourite Christmas treats such as mince pies, Christmas pudding, stollen and fruit and nut mices. So remember to keep your pets safe and keep all these treats out of their reach!
If your pets does accidentally eat something containing these foods, give us a call as soon as possible for advice 📞
‼️Human chocolate for humans. Dog treats for dogs‼️
We always get asked is of chocolate okay for our dog? The answer? Zero chocolate is the right amount for a dog.
Chocolate contains theobromine (a compound poisonous to dogs). How dangerous chocolate is will depend on the type of chocolate, the amount consumed and the size and health of your dog.
Chocolate coins, chocolate tree decorations, and your favourite festive tin are all bad for your dog, so keep them out of reach.
We appreciate those cute noses can sniff out all the treats though, so if your dog has eaten chocolate, the best course of action is to contact us as soon as possible for advice 📞
‼️Which Christmas foods are a ❌ for your pet? ‼️
🎄Turkey bones can potentially cause blockages and damage to your pet’s digestive tract – be sure to pop the bones off the counter and into a secured bin.
🎄High fat foods such as pigs in blankets can sometimes trigger pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas).
🎄Onions (as part of the allium family of plants) are toxic to cats and dogs – plenty of onions in stuffing and gravy, so keep your eyes peeled.
🎄Snacking on macademia nuts in the afternoon? Make sure your bowl is out of paws reach.
🎄Alcohol is also toxic, so spills and left-over drinks should be cleaned away and safely disposed of.
If in doubt, the safest option is to feed pet safe treats instead!
As always, call us for advice if you have any concerns 📞
‼️Keeping your pets safe around festive guests‼️
Tis the season to be merry and bright! If you are hosting a festive party entertaining guests this Christmas, there are likely to be more people going in and out of your home than usual.
Take care to ensure your guests know how to interact with your pets and provide a safe, quiet space your pets can go to if they need time alone. Having such a change within their home environment can lead to stress, especially for those with a more nervous disposition.
Another thing to consider is ensuring your pets are microchipped. This brings peace of mind that they can be traced back to you if they are accidentally let out or escape.
‼️Supervising pets around Christmas decorations‼️
Although Christmas decorations help to set the scene, certain decorations may pose a risk to our beloved pets. For example, stringy decorations such as tinsel and decorative string can cause digestive blockages if ingested, and glass baubles pose a risk of cutting paws if played with and smashed.
Christmas trees can resemble an exciting climbing frame to those adventurous cats, so consider tethering the tree to keep things safer!
Keep inquisitive pets safe during the festive season by supervising them and keeping them away from potential dangers 😊
As always, call us for advice if you have any concerns 📞
