🏆🦁🏆Braveheart of the Month🏆🦁🏆
Hugo is a 9 year old Dobermann and has been a patient of ours since he was a puppy. Hugo has been seen by us over the years for lameness, back pains and lumps and he even had to have a sock removed from his stomach!
Most recently Hugo came to see us in January as he had a sore nail bed on his right hind leg. Antibiotics and a cream to promote healing were given but the nail bed did not heal so it was decided to xray to see what was going on.
Xrays revealed he had a fractured toe!
The bones of a dog's toe are made up of 3 phalanxes each, and Hugo had a fracture on the middle and last. As the toe was infected, swabs were sent off for culture and antibiotic sensitivity, to ensure the correct medication was given. Hugo was then booked in to have the toe amputated. On the day of the surgery, the distal phalanx was amputated and the loose fragments of the middle one were removed. Hugo had this paw bandaged to keep it clean and prevent infection.
When he had to come back, Hugo would cuddle in our nurses arms whilst the bandage was being changed. Hugo did like to voice his opinion on this and would often sing for us when in.
Hugo has been such a brave boy and despite all, he still loves coming in to see us.
Well done Hugo, this is a very well deserved braveheart award! 🏆🦁🏆
