Spring is on its way!
Last night’s new arrival - this cute little filly was born just before 11pm last night 🥰
Neovet Shockwave treatment
Our students this week Laura and Olivia got stuck in with some shockwave treatment on our patient Luna’s back 😄
It’s a brilliant addition to rehabilitation for back pain which in luna’s case was due to some impinging spinous processes
A warm welcome to our newest member of our reception team Emma Barrow!
🌟A warm welcome to our newest member of our reception team Emma Barrow! We’re thrilled to have you on board with us! 🌟
And also wishing her and her Horse Harry all the luck at the London International Horse Show! He was tucking into a Christmas Freddo in preparation for the show 😆🎄
A little throwback to our laser clinic last week which our vet Danielle organised for our clients. Here’s a little clip of this whopper of a sarcoid we removed on the day - we had to weigh it afterwards and at half a kilo it’s one of the largest we’ve seen for a while! We’ll update with some follow ups on the cases of how they’re all healing very soon! Thanks to Excel Lasers Ltd. For the machine trial - we’ll be looking at investing in one next year!
Do you find lameness examinations a little confusing at times?
As we’re starting to use the Sleip gait analysis software more and more in the clinic and out on the road we thought we’d share with you some of the data it generates when we’re using it for a lameness exam and follow up analysis after nerve blocks have been performed.
Here’s a little screen recording to walk you through the wonderful tool we now have access too!
We can also invite you to record your horse again during the rehabilitation period and after treatment so it’s easy to see at a glance what level of improvement has been made compared to the initial examination.
If you have any questions about it then we’d be happy to answer them 😊

A little clip of the Sleip gait analysis software in action.
Strides can be recorded in a straight line and lunging to gather accurate data during lameness examinations to complement what we’re seeing and investigating for you.
It’s as simple as us recording your horses movement for 30 seconds on each rein and in a straight line. Then we set the software to analyse for a few minutes while we discuss what we’re seeing during the examination for you.
We’ll always aim to give you the data on how your horse is moving during every lameness assessment. Get in touch if you’d like to know more!
Calling all owners of ex-racehorses!
The first ever census of ex-racing Thoroughbreds in Britain is underway. This is a really important initiative aimed at increasing traceability of racehorses after they finish their racing career. The information gathered will contribute towards education, welfare and infectious disease control, as well improving the sustainability of the racing industry overall.
So if you have an ex-racer, please take a moment to complete the census. The closing date is 31st December 2023.
The census can be found here: https://uwe.eu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_8bNJFzR2FB95ZlQ
Have you been looking into steaming hay at your yard? Our partners at Hestevard have partnered with Nuveq equine to provide a client discount on their hay steamers.
We’ve been discussing the benefits of steaming hay for horses with equine asthma and outbreaks of liver disease due to the beneficial effect of killing moulds/fungi/bacterial toxins. These are so often responsible for and Implicated in equine asthma and liver disease in groups of horses that it can be well worth using a hay steamer to mitigate this risk if there are known sufferers at your yard.
Watch this space for our client discount code!

🎉🍾 Our first AI foal of the year arrived safe and well. We are so thrilled for this little chaps owner Lauren Ross and family. His dam is a first time mum and she is being fantastic. Our vet Kelly Louise was the midwife on call and we are happy the foaling went smoothly. An IGG test was carried out the following day, the test is so simple yet so important to check the foal had absorbed enough antibodies from the mares colostrum. All was well. We are now just happily watching him enjoying life.❤️❤️❤️❤️

So lovely to see one of your patients tucking into their hay 24hrs after a tooth extraction. Jiggy had a fractured molar on the left upper arcade. The side of this tooth had come away was identified during a routine dental examination under sedation. Jiggy required a minimally invasive technique to extract this tooth as the crown further crumbled and fractured when a standard extraction was attempted. Nicole from the equine dental clinic performed this procedure by inserting a screw into the fractured root via a small incision in the cheek. The tooth could then repulsed back into the mouth. As you can see from the second photo - it was a bit of a jigsaw! We’re so pleased that Jiggy has been comfortable and doing well after her extraction!
