🍁 AUTUMN SAFETY TIPS 🍁

With autumn creeping in and the colder mornings appearing here are some tips and tricks to keep your pets happy and healthy over the colder months!

- VACCINES - are you pets up to date with their vaccines? Keeping these up every year prevents the risk of any diseases and infections
- FLEA AND TICK TREATMENT - have they had their regular parasite control? Although needed throughout the year, ticks particularly enjoy the autumnal months
- ARTHRITIS - Have you noticed your pet slowing down in the colder months? Some easy signs of arthritis or joint pain can be:
• struggling to get up as easily especially after long periods of rest
• general stiffness and limping.
We can offer medication to aid arthritis pain and keep your pets comfortable
- BE FIREWORK PREPARED - Ensuring you are prepped for firework season early and have provisions in
- AVOID CONKERS AND ACORNS - These are very toxic to pets so avoid at all times

Every Monday we will be introducing the faces behind Medivet Derby!

We will be starting off with our lovely manager Nic!

Nic has been working with us since 2018 and has seen plenty of changes within the surgery! She is regularly seen in practice with her beautiful Labrador Mae who enjoys lots of cuddles from the staff!
When asked what her favourite thing about being a manager within the veterinary industry she said
'No two days are the same, I get to spend my days working with an amazing team meeting lovely patients and their equally as lovely owners'

🌞 KEEP COOL THIS SUMMER 🌞

With the warm weather finally here, it's important to make sure all our furry friends are staying safe.

Some helpful tips are:
- Make sure there's plenty of shaded areas they can have access to
- Ensuring they stay inside at peak times and walked early mornings or evenings
- Buying enrichment to freeze as a treat ( such a paste in a kong/ frozen carrots/ ice cubes in water)
- Placing a small tile in hutches for rabbits and guinea pigs and checking regularly for signs of flystrike
- Placing cooling mats or cold towels on a cool floor

RECOGNISE THE SIGNS OF HEAT STROKE
- Excessive panting
- Vomiting
- Showing signs of distress and discomfort
- Excessive salivation
- If your pet shows any sign of heat stroke, ALWAYS seek veterinary attention straight away.

DO NOT LEAVE ANY PET INSIDE A LOCKED CAR

The lovely Thor came in for his puppy vaccinations today - he wasn't feeling very brave without his hammer so chose to climb on Mum and Dad's shoulders to recieve the treatment - he's sooo cute though we worked around it! 😍

Karl's blog is a little different this time as it's time to say a fond farewell to our Karl! The team would like to thank Karl for all his hard work over the last 12 years and wish him all the best in his career at Orthopaedic Vet!
