💕How gorgeous is the lovely Hannah, who I had the pleasure of plaiting for her dressage competition at the weekend.
🥇Helen, Hannah’s owner, wanted her to look her best for her show, and the clever duo danced their way to first place!

➡I am available to plait with bands for competitions around the Edinburgh, Penicuik area. If you’d like any more information just get in touch.

🐾 Due to expanding our team, we have some rare spaces for dog walking sessions, and full days.

🙏🏽Marion uses our full day service and left us this wonderful review,
"Alex has been good for Pete (my dog). Pete is always eagerly watching out the door for Alex‘s van coming around the corner, and he gets so excited to see him which is how I know he loves Alex and his walks.

He is a lot more sociable now he has his doggie friends to run about with. Alex has taught him a lot and I would recommend him to everyone. He gets 5 stars from me (and Pete)."

💕Thank you Marion.

➡️We currently have availability for AM and PM dog walking, plus a small selection of full day availability for dogs around Penicuik who would like to be collected in the morning, join us on our morning walk, stay with us for lunch, join us for our afternoon walk, and then returned home very happy!

➡️➡️➡️If you're looking for a dog walking in Midlothian then we would love you to get in touch to find out how we can help you.

🐾 We know that trusting someone with your dog can be a big decision, which is why we appreciate our current clients sharing their views.

✅Terri left us this lovely review, “Alex has been walking our dog, Arlo, for nearly three years, and we could not have chosen anyone better. He is always very reliable and will go out of his way to help. Arlo absolutely loves his time with Alex and always patiently waits for the van to arrive. We would highly recommend Canine & Equine Care.”

🙏🏽Thank you Terri, we always enjoy the energy that Arlo brings to our walking pack.

⚠️ Be aware – it’s tick season 🐾

❗️ We have seen a huge increase in the number of ticks we see on the dogs we walk, and although we check each dog over after their walk, it is easy to miss them, especially on dogs with long coats.

ℹ️ If not removed correctly, ticks can have serious health implications for your dog, including Lyme Disease.

💡 When dealing with ticks our recommendation is to:

🩺 Speak to your vet about a preventative treatment plan

🐾 Check your dogs coats after every walk

✅ If they do have a tick remove it correctly with tick tweezers, or ask your vet

⚠️ Be aware of clinical signs of Lymes Disease which can include fever, loss of appetite, painful or swollen joints, lameness that comes and goes, swollen lymph nodes, and lethargy. If Lyme disease is left untreated it can lead to damage in the kidneys, nervous system, and heart.

😳 Check yourself for ticks, especially after walks and cuddling your dog – we are not kidding! Ticks sometimes fancy a chew on humans as well, and just like dogs we can get Lyme Disease too.

🐾 You might not notice any ticks immediately after your walk, but checking daily is important. Once they have buried their head a feed can take up to two weeks, during which time the tick will grow bigger as they fill with blood, increasing in weight by up to 120 times!😬

💙 At Canine and Equine Care we work closely with our vets to prevent ticks on our own animals, and we would highly recommend that other owners do the same.

🐾 It means so much when we get feedback like the lovely Claire recently sent to us:

💙 "This is the easiest recommendation I’ve ever had to write! It’s a pleasure to chat with Alex in the morning when he collects Indiana for her walks with all her pals. She used to be a nervous wee pup, drooling and shaking before going out, but Alex’s kindness and perseverance with her won Indy round! Now her tail wags wildly with pure delight and her excitement is infectious when we say ‘Alex is coming for you!’ She always comes home happy and tired - thank you 🐾❤️"

🐾 We love having Indy as part of our team and seeing her grow in confidence is something we thrive on as it is such a rewarding part of the services that we offer.

✅ Using a dog walker can help to build confidence with other people, and other dogs, as well as helping to ensure positive socialisation.

🐾 As dog owners ourselves, we understand it can feel daunting to give someone else responsibility for your dog. To help put your mind at ease we offer a free 30-minute meet and greet consultation, which gives you and your dog the chance to get to know me, find out more about the services and walks we offer, and to see if we are a good fit.

🐾 Paddy, the three-legged Greyhound, is a firm favourite of ours, so we were really thrilled when his owner said this about us:

💙 "Alex has been walking my dog Paddy for around two years. We have never had any issues and Paddy always returns happy and well-walked. Alex and his colleague Louise have also been very reliable with pickup and drop-off times and have always accommodated Paddy's needs as a 3 legged dog that often hurts himself. I've really valued Alex having him for a few hours while I've been working"

🙏 Thank you Ed.

🧡This is beautiful Amber. When we first started walking her, Amber was clinically and morbidly obese. Her elderly owner had been unexpectedly restricted by debilitating mobility issues, and over the weeks of reduced exercise, Amber’s weight crept up.

➡Her lovely owner contacted us to help give Amber the exercise she needed and the results speak for themselves. Amber is now a clinically healthy weight, is much fitter, and has a routine that she is thriving in.

ℹ️A recent study by the Royal Veterinary College revealed that 1 in 14 dogs are recorded as overweight or obese every year. Obesity in dogs can result in lots of different health problems.

✅Using a dog walker can help to ensure that your dog is getting the exercise they need to keep them as happy and healthy as they can be and also ensures positive socialisation.

🐾As dog owners ourselves, we understand that it can feel daunting to give someone else responsibility for your dog. 🧡How cute is Amber – she is so proud of her ‘stick’.
😍Her Spaniel genes mean that she is bred to want to pick things up and carry them.
🐾It is natural for some dogs to want to carry something in their mouths and bring things to you, sometimes this is instinct, sometimes it is excitement and sometimes it is a sign that they want to play.

💡There are a lot of split opinions about letting dogs have sticks, at Canine & Equine Care we monitor each dog individually and carefully balance the natural desires of each dog and the safety of the environment around them.
🙏Luckily Amber never chews her sticks – she just loves finding the biggest ones to carry on her walks.

📚 I absolutely love learning, so I took the opportunity to have a couple of days off last week to learn from the No.1 groom in the world – Alan Davies.

🇬🇧 Alan has worked for Carl Hester and Charlotte Dujardin for a number of years, having travelled and flown horses all around the world, and been on more medal-winning teams than most of us can only dream of!

🐴 Alan presented a masterclass at Loch Leven Equine Practice, discussing everything from daily management to competition care, travelling and NOPS.

💡It was a really great balance to have equine surgeon, Hugh Somerville, sharing his opinions from a veterinary angle.

🤩 I then grabbed the chance to take Orla for some dressage training with Alan at Dunbog, which gave such a valuable insight into his way of coaching. Alan is an amazing coach and I came away feeling inspired and having learned loads.

🤣 I even had a fan-boy moment when I asked him to sign one of the brushes from his range!

🙃 I really believe that you never stop learning and at Canine and Equine Care we are always looking for ways to enhance our learning and education.

💙 This is Blossom, she is the kindest, most loving, and sweet-natured dog, but because of her breed from 23rd February, she will no longer be allowed to do one of her favourite things – her group walks with us. 💔

🐾 Whenever we go and collect Blossom she is so excited and she grins from ear to ear. She loves nothing more than to run around with her friends and play.

ℹ️ Because of the new laws coming in on XL Bullies, it means that poor Blossom will never be allowed back in her group, she will no longer be allowed off the lead, out without a muzzle, or be allowed to run and play with her friends.

❗️Instead, she will be restricted to short lead walks; wearing a muzzle.
I understand there have been devastating instances with dogs of this breed, but there have also been lots of horrific instances with different breeds. I think that we need to look at the wider picture and what could be done to reduce attacks from all breeds, rather than penalising one breed and their owners.

😔 It makes me so sad to think that hundreds and thousands of innocent dogs will now suffer because of this. It plays very heavily on my heart that on 23rd February Blossom will be waiting for us to pick her up and won’t understand that we are not allowed to go and get her.

💙 Getting feedback from our clients is really important to make sure that our services are suiting their needs and to see if there is anything we could do better.

🐾 "I’ve been lucky enough to walk Eva’s dogs since I founded the business and here is what she has to say, “I’ve been using Canine and Equine Care for three years now and I wouldn’t use anyone else to care for my dogs!
Seeing how they greet Alex when he comes to walk them melts my heart - they absolutely adore him!"

🐶 "Getting them out with a group of dogs has definitely helped them be more sociable for sure and keeps them nice and fit! Alex really goes above and beyond for Tiger and Jelly, he really does care for them as if they were his own.
Relying on someone else to look after your fur babies is never an easy choice, but with Canine and Equine Care I never have to worry! Happy owner and happy dogs.”

💙 A heartfelt thanks to Eva for this amazing review.

🐾 Why use a dog walker?🚶
ℹ There are lots of advantages you might find it helpful to have a dog walker, and here are some of the reasons why:
⏰ You work long hours
😍 You want your dog to enjoy positive socialisation
🐶 You have a high-energy breed of dog who would benefit from additional exercise
🏡 It allows them to have toilet breaks if you are out of the house for a long period of time
🥰 Your dog gets anxious at home on their own
➡️ Your own mobility restricts the amount of exercise you can give your dog

✅ A recent study by the Royal Veterinary College revealed that 1 in 14 dogs are recorded as overweight or obese every year. Obesity in dogs can lead to all sorts of health problems. Making sure your dog gets regular walks plays an important part in weight management and helps ensure they stay as healthy as possible.

💙 As dog owners ourselves, we understand that it can’t feel daunting to give someone else responsibility of your dog. To help put your mind at ease we offer a free 30-minute meet and greet consultation, which gives you and your dog the chance to get to know me, find out more about the services and walks we offer, and to see if we are a good fit.

📌 We are based in Midlothian and cover Pathhead, Borthwick, North Middleton, Gorebridge, Newtongrange, Mayfield, Dalkeith and Bonnyrigg.

✂️Clipping season is coming to a close and I have a few spaces available for anyone looking for their last clip of the season before the horses start shedding their winter coats in preparation for their summer ones.

💡I offer a wide range of clipping, trimming and mane and tail tidying services for those who are looking for a new season makeover.

📍I’m based in Midlothian and happy to travel around this area.

🧽Please note - in order for me to make your horse look their finest and for them to have the best possible experience, I politely ask that all horses are clean and dry before my arrival. Dirty/greasy horses blunt clipper blades quickly and make it almost impossible to get a good finish. It also means that it pulls on their coat as they are clipped which is sore.

📲Simply get in touch for more information and to book.
