Tin Acre Equestrian Freelance Services Offering clipping and show prep throughout the year alongside sales/backing/schooling livery Based at near Holsworthy, Devon I'm prepared to travel to jobs.
(16)

Tin Acre Equestrian offers freelance services mainly clipping/trimming and show prep/plaiting but I’m also available for occasional holiday yard cover/pet sitting, riding (location dependent) and have the occasional space for schooling, sales and backing livery. My name is Morwenna Barnicoat, I have owned and ridden horses from a young age, I have competed for pony club, enjoyed hunting sidesaddle

and now compete regularly in riding club teams, British Eventing and British Dressage. As a teenager I broke in and rode on a variety of young horses to be sold, then I studied and completed a National Diploma in Horse Management at Bicton College.Whilst at Bicton I obtained my BHS Stage 1 Care, BHS Stages 1,2 & 3 Riding and BHS Riding & Road Safety. After college I continued to break in, ride on and sell other peoples and my own horses. Before moving to Devon I worked for a dressage rider based in Cornwall with horses working up to and beyond Advanced Medium and competing at Advanced Medium. In this job I've had sole charge of up to 15 horses, exercised warmblood dressage horses, handled dressage youngstock, exercised and schooled hunters, assisted with foaling, turned out horses and youngsters for competitions and futurity and backed and ridden on two warmblood 3yos, one of which is a stallion. I've now set up in Devon as a freelance groom and I'm also able to offer pulling trimming, plaiting and help breaking & schooling, amongst other things.. Any work considered, ring, text or pm for availability.

I currently have space for backing, schooling or holiday livery

Experienced lightweight fair rider, I’m experienced with a variety of horses and work on a what works for one horse doesn’t always work for the other

I have taken horses from backed through to Medium dressage and am experienced with sensitive horses and ponies

I’m happy to take horses to their first arena hires and competitions to gain experience and give an allround education

This lovely mare has come in to see if she’ll be a happy hacker after a few years as a broodmare having retired from eventing

She’s enjoying her long reining and I hope to hack her this week

I love to long rein and feel that it’s a vital step that doesn’t always get enough time spent on it (if any) and is something you can come back to at anytime

It’s been a busy week for Kasper whilst I’ve been putting him various situations and seeing what I can work on

He’s solid to hack
Likes to jump
Just has a tendency to hold his head low and tuck in I’ve had a twiddle around with his bit and bridle to see if I can help encourage a bit more up and out

He is set to be a cracking allrounder for somebody and hopefully I can get him out to a little competition soon

Just a couple of clips I’ve done recently
To answer or address some frequently asked questions/concerns

I don’t mind if horses aren’t bathed… not everyone has the facilities and not every horse can be bathed easily - as long as they are dry and have any surface dirt removed I’m happy to crack on, the finish just might not be as good but it all blends in a few days

I’m happy to try your horse without sedation or with less sedation / oral instead of intravenous as long as I’m aware

I don’t mind clipping your sweating cushings/ems horse as long as you don’t mind a below par finish and I know so that I can use some meatier blades

I’m battery powered

Yes I clip all year round!

Dilly getting acquainted with her new surroundings whilst getting used to having a bridle on for the first time
We’ll be working towards getting the long reining established this week in the first part of her education
She’s in to be backed and started out hacking and seems very sweet so fingers crossed she continues taking everything in her stride

So I’ve been very quiet here mainly because I’ve been so bloody busy!

It’s been a couple of months of backing and riding on young TBs for a customer, backing and riding on our own projects and I finally got my own youngster hacking 🎉🎉
This combined with my usual horse sitting and of course there’s been a lot of clipping squeezed in there’s not been much time for anything else although I did manage to squeeze a dressage competition in for Orange and Cleo at the beginning of Oct 😬

Hugely grateful for the help I’ve had from friends in various forms to keep the show on the road

So here is a selection of “through the ears” on babies having their first rides and a couple of clipping pics

Potentially one of my best tail plaits! Not had to do one of those for a while 😬

I still get to see Kenny each week since he went home - sometimes I ride him sometimes I torture Megan 🤣
Megan has done a great job carrying the work on and they’re both starting to produce some solid walk and trot work, he’s definitely getting stronger
Canter is going to be a bit of a long game but it’s happening slowly and it’s all going in the right direction

27/06/2023

Kenny has gone back home today after an intense 3 weeks with me (poor chap)

I’ll still be going to school him a couple of times a week but the improvement in him so far has been amazing - he’s nowhere near “finished” but there’s a solid starting point

Better rhythm, better contact and he can easily bend each way on a circle - trust me the right rein was emotional!

He’s had his back treated twice by Dr Dave whilst with me and this has made a huge difference now he realises he can bend 🤣

Kenny has come for a few weeks schooling as his owner is a little bit broken atm!
After a week of sessions getting him back into the swing of things and working out what’s general greeness and what’s Welsh sass I believe we’ve got a starting point to build from 🎉

This marvelous horse was brought to one of my clinics because his rider described him as lazy and resistant. The rider was very frustrated because he did not have the impulsion he felt he needed.

Here I am exchanging breath with him and letting him know I can see that his lack of impulsion was not laziness at all but a result of previous training. I had the sense that this horse felt very sad that he could not satisfy his rider. I wanted to let this horse know that I, along with the hundred auditors, appreciated him.

My advice to the rider was to find this horse a new home with somebody who would so appreciate this horse for his consistent and safe behavior and find a new horse with a different level of energy.

Not every horse and rider are the perfect match. I feel that it is important that horses are not forced into a “job” or “role” that does not suit them, just because the rider thinks it is a good idea. On the flip side, it is important to give people the “permission” to find a horse who suits the discipline or style they are pursuing rather than attempting to “make it work” because they feel like a failure if it is not working with their current equine partner.

The girls looking after my snot filled body today as I coughed my way around our tests 😖

Scores a bit lower than usual today but still an Overall Win and a Second for Goaty

Meanwhile Cleo completed her first Medium test and held her own with lots to improve she earned her 64.6% just 0.4 behind the leader!

So lucky to ride such fabulous horses

He has settled well and enjoyed exploring the school today!

He’s a lot bigger than he looked in the picture I was sent before he came so he’s generally greeted by me with “he’s fu***ng huge” 🫣😂
