๐Ÿฆ™๐Ÿ’‰Vitamin Supplementation Time!๐Ÿ’‰๐Ÿฆ™

As the days have gotten shorter and darker, our camelid friends need a bit of help in supplementing their source of vitamin D.

In the UK we recommend supplementation between September and April months with doses being given every 8 weeks for injectable formulations and every 4-6 weeks for oral ones.

Not providing supplementation (or under dosing) can result in Ricketts.
Ricketts is the weakening or softening of bones due to abnormal metabolism. This can lead to secondary issues such as bone fractures and even death.
It is a very important mineral to help maintain normal, self-regulation of multiple body systems in adult animals and in growth stages for crias.

๐Ÿฆ™โ—๏ธEach camelid should be dosed between 1000-2000IU/kg of body weightโ—๐Ÿฆ™

It is also important to note that toxicity can be developed if animals are dosed too frequently or with overdoses of Vitamin D products, so care should be taken to dose according to the animalsโ€™ weight.

If you would like dosage guidance or more information on vitamin D supplementation, give us a call in the office on 01562 701334 โ˜Ž๏ธ

We love our clinic girls!! ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿป

Today is Veterinary Nurse Day!

Our amazing clinic girls Zoe, Maddie and Freya are often the first faces your furry friends see at Field Equine- whether theyโ€™re coming to us for a vaccine all the way to specialist dental work!
They are always there to comfort your pets or even you, the owner! Theyโ€™ll help to explain to you whatโ€™s happening and answer any questions you may have! ๐Ÿฅฐ

When your horse has to stay at the equine unit. The girls are the ones who makes sure their bandages are changed, theyโ€™re fed and watered, and that they get a little time spent with love and cuddles so they arenโ€™t lonely during their stay.

They all also work alongside the vets, making sure they have everything they need to provide the best treatment to your animals ๐Ÿด

Good luck Jess!

On Friday we said goodbye to Jess as she left us to explore work outside of the equine/veterinary industry.

Jess has worked with a number of the team for around 10 years so it was very sad to see her go. She has had a number of different roles over the years and has always tackled them with enthusiasm and humour. A part of her job that she always enjoyed was interacting with clients and following the patients through their treatment journeys.

We hope youโ€™ll join us in wishing Jess and her dog ๐Ÿถ Belle! All the luck for the future as she moves on to her next chapter.

Good luck Jess!

28/04/2023

We have arranged for an alpaca blood collection day ahead of the breeding season in order to collect and store frozen plasma. This can then be used for any crias in need of a plasma transfusion this season. One collection will provide two units of plasma.

The animals presented for this need to be well handled (halter trained), healthy and ideally adult males over 60kg.

This service will take place on Saturday 13th May at our premises in Blakedown (DY10 3JH). There are limited places available so if you are interested or would like more information please call the office to book on 01562 701334
