Did you know, those little bees you see in the evening sitting on flowers are old bees.
Old & sick bees don't return to the hive at the end of their day.
They spend the night on flowers, and if they have the chance to see another sunrise, they resume their activity by bringing pollen or nectar to the colony.
They do this sensing that the end is near.
No bee waits to die in the hive so as not to burden the others.
So, next time you see an old little bee sat upon a flower as the night closes in.....Thank the little bee for her life long service. 🐝

Morning all, Please see below the updated Amazon list 🦔 Some people have been having trouble with out of stocks but please don’t let that put you off. Feel free to go off list or even elsewhere, especially for cat/kitten wet food and biscuit which we are always in great need of. They are fussy but there will usually be one random hog that eats it somewhere along the line 🥰 Thank you x

Facebook asks me what's on my mind. Well after today RECYCLING AND BINBAGS yet again.
Today a female hedgehog was spotted in a recycling bag along with some hoglets. I have nothing but praise for the householders and their approach to the problem. They left the hedgehog alone the day before because they thought it was a solo hog and hoped it would see the error of its ways and vacate the bag over night. It wasn't till this morning they realised they had a bigger problem when they spotted the hoglets. Leaving well alone they contacted us and we hatched a plan to safely transport them to our Witham branch in the recycling bag.
One by one we carefully removed the recycling from the bag, tins, plastic, cartons etc, checking everything for hoglets. Eventually we found four next to mum. One hoglet had sticky packaging tape stuck to it's face which we carefully removed and all four hoglets and mum were moved into a maternity hutch, quickly and quietly with as little handling as possible.
I relate this story to repeat the message about bin bag etc. Please try to store off the ground so they are not accessible during the night. Please don't put out in the street the night before, but early in the morning the day of collection if you can. I leave it to your own imagination what could have happened to this family if they hadn't been spotted!
No photos were taken during the rescue. Old photo attached of hoglets that arrived without a mum to grab your attention!
Thank you for your service❤❤
"Hi, I'm a snail 🐌
I know that sometimes you don’t like me because I feed on the leaves of your garden or plants.
I give you some advice though: don’t kill me with poisons that cause me pain and pollute your garden!
If you put coffee grounds around your plants I will stay away and you will nourish the soil, because coffee grounds are fertilizer!
Hair also works. If you give yourself a trim or brush your dog, put the hair in the garden. Egg shells as well.
If you see me attached to a vase don't rip me from there, my protective wrappr breaks and I'll die.
If you see I'm being followed by little virgins, don't intervene, it's my little ones that I gave birth to. They are born without a shell, they are very delicate! Then, in a short time, nature will endow them with a tiny soft shell (don't touch it, it's fragile!) ). My little few survived!
But we are animals useful for the ecosystem, our history is very ancient!
Help us survive, thank you so much 🙏 🐌"

This little one survived for literally 30 minutes after being rushed over to me. She was gasping upon arrival.
The lovely lady who drove her over returned to find slug pellets next to where she had been found 😞
Slug are actually a valuable part of the composting process and help to turn plant waste into compost for gardeners to use.
There are so many alternatives to deter slugs if you feel you have to! Please see the link below and add any ideas you have in the comments as this is such a huge issue and education is key….

Me in the future:
Totally agree. 🐝❤️
SHARED POST ...
Please take care on the roads especially at night.
Don't be a di****ad driver, think about wildlife. 👌
"My grandma passed away last
week and every day without fail
she would feed the foxes that
came into her garden. Today when
we came round the baby fox was
sat outside waiting for her to
come out and look at his face my
heart can't cope 😢"

This is a honey bee. The pollen on her legs is from dandelions. Her tongue is sticking out due to what killed her that was on the dandelions.
It’s spring, dandelions are the bees first food. This bee is dead from w**d killer spread on what we see as w**ds, but what nature sees as food. Please don’t spray for w**ds until you see the blackberries blooming.
In this area, w**ds, flowers and fruit trees are bees only source of food until middle of June. There are FAR more w**ds than flowers or fruit trees, so it's their only food source. No bees, no food crops for us and we all starve?!

Anyone who makes the difference in finding those responsible for torturing a hedgehog stands to make thousands of pounds.

Is anybody able to collect a poorly hog from Forncett end to come to Long Stratton please?
This little chap Oscar also came in yesterday with TWELVE wounds, probably caused by Corvids pecking him whilst he lay dormant through dehydration😪.
I was marvelling how very lucky he was not to have got fly strike when, having cleaned and flushed out the eleventh wound, 3 huge fat maggots crawled out! This took away much of the hope that this little fellow would survive, but where there's life there's hope. Having been pulled about for almost an hour and a half he ate a hearty meal and both suprised and delighted me by having survived the night. Still a way to go IF the maggots haven't won the fight, now only time will tell, everything crossed for our brave boy Oscar.🤞🫰🤞

Step Three: Feeding the Hoglet. (CORRECTION: ATTEMPTING to feed the Hoglet.) 1. Once you have wrestled Hoglet into a paper towel burrito, realise that you have neglected to draw up a syringe of Royal Canin BabyCat Milk/Royal Canin Puppy Mousse Gloop, and realise that you now have to do this one handed, whilst in your other hand, you are attempting to placate and man-handle a tiny hedgehog that up until now, has bested you at every opportunity. 👶🦔 2. Draw up the formula one handed. This is stressful and messy. The Hoglet is NOT impressed with your shenanigans. 🧐👶🦔 3. Re-manoeuvre said Hoglet into a feeding position. Attempt to place the syringe ‘teat’ into their mouth, which they interpret as a full-on act and declaration of WAR, and clamp their mouths shut, so that nothing will ever pass their lips EVER AGAIN. 😳 4. Spend the next approximately 45 minutes trying to get the teat into the Hoglet’s mouth. Fail repeatedly. Begin to question your life choices that have led you up to this moment. And repeat. And repeat. 😑 5. After nearly an hour of wrestling with said Hoglet, finally get the teat into their mouth, and try and push the plunger on the syringe down, so that they can taste the milk, and realise that they actually want to have this in their mouth. 🍼🦔 6. Realise that with all the faffing about and Hoglet wrestling (honestly, that should be an Olympic Sport. Hoglet Wrestling. It’s enough to reduce a grown man to tears😭), that your fingers are no longer lined up with the ‘lips’ on the syringe, meaning that you are trying to syringe BabyCat Milk into the Hoglet in the most awkward way, ever, and that this is a futile mission. 😟 7. You need to ‘re-centre’ the syringe. This will ultimately result in the Hoglet spitting out the teat, and you will have to begin from Step 3 again. Feel your will to live slowly slipping away…🤯🦔😂 #hedgehog #hedgehogs #hoglet #hoglets #babyhedgehog #hedgehoglife #hedgehoglove
