This is something everyone should see. This xray is of a 2 week old puppy.

When you get your 8/10 week old puppies, please keep this image in mind. Their bones do not even touch yet. They plod around so cutely with big floppy paws and wobbly movement because their joints are entirely made up of muscle, tendons, ligaments with skin covering. Nothing is fitting tightly together or has a true socket yet.

When you run them excessively or don't restrict their exercise to stop them from overdoing it during this period you don't give them a chance to grow properly. Every big jump or excited bouncing run causes impacts between the bones. In reasonable amounts this is not problematic and is the normal wear and tear that every animal will engage in.

But when you're letting puppy jump up and down off the lounge or bed, take them for long walks/hikes, you are damaging that forming joint. When you let the puppy scramble on tile with no traction you are damaging the joint.

You only get the chance to grow them once. A well built body is something that comes from excellent breeding and a great upbringing-BOTH, not just one.

Once grown - around 12-18 months depending on their breed, you will have the rest of their life to spend playing and engaging in higher impact exercise. So keep it calm while they're still little baby puppies and give the gift that can only be given once.

As we had already planned a break this week and are closed just wanted to let clients read this with record breaking temperatures. We would have closed and rescheduled everyone had we been open as we wouldn't want any dog walked or transported for an appt in these temperatures.

Advice from vets
PLEASE do NOT give your dogs ice cubes or other frozen items in the heat to cool them down!
Ice cubes do not cool dogs down!

Giving ice cubes to dogs in the heat has the opposite effect of cooling.

The canine anterior hypothalamus is triggered to warm up the body because it recognises something icy cold has been absorbed, and subsequently the bodily temperature rises to compensate for this.

In extreme heat a dogs' temperature needs to be reduced gradually.

Give dogs tepid water only.

Tepid water soaked towels rubbed into the dogs fur close to the skin to wick away heat from the body will keep them cool…
especially under forelegs (armpits) and pads.

Hello everyone apologies for long post. At this time of year we are very busy and unfortunately our mother was rushed into hospital last week who was the 3rd cog in the wheel to help us through this busy period. As there are now only myself and sister all we ask is for your patience at this busy time. We really appreciate all the well wishes and some of those clients from this week that have had to wait slightly longer for their dogs to be finished. We cannot thank you enough. Due to us being so busy we haven't had time to take any Christmas pictures of your adorable pooches we wanted to apologise sincerely, normally we are on point with this every year. To all the new clients that have joined Dogzi we will be back to normal in the new year and pictures will be taken of your beautiful pups. I just wanted to say to everyone that you have all been incredibly understanding and would like to remind everyone that just because we are very busy the care of all your dogs and attention to detail will never be compromised. You all matter so much to us. We are keeping up with the usual routine only its taking slightly longer. I do hope you all understand and appreciate your patience look forward to seeing everyone next week. Many thanks 😊

So much hard work goes into holding these events for groomers competing and for all those who prep their dogs and take first steps into competitions. It's great to see after the last 18 months of nothing for this event to go ahead.

Hi everyone,

We do hope that you’re keeping well.

In light of the new government regulations coming in to effect as of 19th July, we wanted to update you on how we will be working here at the salon.

We feel that the protocols we’ve had in place since we reopened have worked really well for us as a business and for our clients therefore, as cases continue to rise, we will continue with the policies we have in place and mandatory wearing of face masks for both staff and clients and social distancing at the gate as you are all to familiar with now.

This is to ensure that, not only are we protecting both clients and staff, but reducing the risk of disruption within the salon due myself or any team member having to self isolate.

If you do have any concerns, please do not hesitate to get in touch. Stay safe and please feel free to share the information.
