Did you know that dogs have different blood types? 🐶🩸

Just like people, dogs have different blood types and they can either be DEA 1 positive or negative. Negative blood is in very high demand as this type can be given to any dog in an emergency, but it is also rarer with only 30% of dogs having it 😱

The charity needs more dogs who are likely to have the rarer negative blood type to come forward as donors and help them ensure this is always available for dogs who need it 🐩

If you think your large, happy, healthy, and confident dog could become a lifesaver, visit Pet Blood Bank’s website to find out more 👉 www.petbloodbankuk.org/dogs

We received this picture of the beautiful Hollie today with her reserve champion rosette at the Cumberland County Show.

Hollie had a very difficult start in life, needing plasma transfusions and hospitalisation, followed by a hip injury but she pulled through and we are so pleased to see the beautiful girl she has become. Congratulations Hollie!

Why do we use CT scans?

A CT scan is an effective method of obtaining cross-sectional images of the inside of your pet’s body. The scanner rotates around your pet, taking images from different angles, and then combines all the data to create a 3D image. Unlike plain X-ray, a CT scan can differentiate between different types of soft tissues, such as muscle and blood vessels, with great clarity. It is a very valuable tool that enables us to investigate quickly and accurately diagnose a wide array of conditions that may affect your pet.

Based on the information from the scan, we can provide more targeted treatments to suit your pet’s specific needs and medical conditions, giving your pet the best chance of future good health.

The visiting mobile CT scanner will be with us again on Wednesday 19th June 2024.

This week has been rather special as it was Mr Frame’s 100th birthday. He received a birthday card from the King and we had a celebration lunch at the surgery with a beautiful cake made by Jan.

Many of you will remember Jimmy from his practising days and he still keeps us right in the office with his daily visits with Bracken the Labrador.

Happy birthday Mr Frame!

Collecting a faecal sample for your horse’s worm egg counts may seem a simple task, but there are some key steps to be aware of to make the results as accurate as possible:

1. Always collect from a fresh pile of dung
2. Select a pinch of faeces from THREE different sites in the dung pile, making sure they are from different depths
3. Place all 3 pinches in a plastic sample bag to form a total amount the size of a table tennis ball
4. Squeeze out as much air from the bag before sealing
5. Write the horse’s name, age and sampling date on the bag
6. Submit for testing on the SAME DAY as collection, or keep refrigerated overnight if absolutely necessary

Happy poo-picking! 🐎

At Frame and Swift we are continuing to strive towards making our workplace as green as possible. Some changes we have recently put in place include:

Reusable theatre hats made by our very talented vet Pui Pui.

Recycling all our plastic bags and packaging

Using biodegradable cat litter (and the cats like it too!)

We now also have a poster in the waiting room, to write down any ideas you may have for ways we can reduce impact on the environment. 🌳

We are currently dealing with a power cut at the practice. Our phones will be diverted in due course. Please bear with us.

Harris the Pointer came in to us as an emergency having been bitten by an adder on his chin. His face was already significantly swollen. If left untreated, adder bites can be fatal.

Thankfully the swift actions of his owner meant we were able to administer the critical anti-venom intravenously in good time and he has now made a full recovery!

Calling all horse owners!

We are offering yard visits to all our liveries to discuss the most up to date way of approaching worm control at the herd level.

This will allow us to put a tailored plan in place for your horse and their specific circumstances.

Speak to your yard owner to get a visit organised - the more horse owners that we can get together, the more we can design a team approach to manage worming at your premises.
