🐈This is the very beautiful Kizzy, look at those cheeks!!🥰

Kizzy spent the day with us at our Gowerton surgery today, she was a joy to work with and allowed our veterinary surgeon Sarah and our veterinary nurse Rhian examine her with very little fuss!

Kizzy's owners had noticed she was no longer crunching on her favorite biscuits and quickly made an appointment. On examination, it became evident that Kizzy had damaged a lower canine that needed removing. The good news is, Sarah removed the tooth and Kizzy is on the road to recovery!

Well done Kizzy! we hope to hear that you are back to crunching biscuits again very soon!

Does your pet struggle with fireworks?

This is Bryn last night during the fireworks, he knows all to well how stressful this time of year can be!

Bryn's owner Meg, who is one of our veterinary nurses at Gibson & Jones Vets, listed the usual symptoms Bryn displays during fireworks:

🐶Panting
🐾pacing
💦Drooling
🪜Trying to escape
🥸Hiding
😿Whining
😩Trembling

As you can see from his symptoms, Bryn is highly reactive to fireworks so Meg choose to use a prescription medication to help keep him calm. We were pleased to hear this morning from Meg that Bryn's symptoms where mild during the fireworks!

Well done Bryn! you are a very brave boy!

Please get in touch if you would like to discuss options for over the counter or prescription medications, or if you would like further advice on how to keep your pet safe and calm during firework season.

🦔This noisy little eater came in to see us at Gibson & Jones Vets last week when he was found during the day time.
Being a nocturnal creature, this is a bad sign and usually means they are ill or haven’t grown big enough to survive hibernation over the winter months. Either way, this means they are in need of a helping hand, which we are always happy to offer.

With bonfire night fast approaching there are things we can all do to help keep our much loved spikey friends safe:

🔥Store materials for your bonfire in a safe place, then on the day you are lighting it move them to a different patch of ground.

🔥Build the bonfire on the same day that you will light it. The longer it’s left for, the more likely it is that a hedgehog will wander in.

🔥Always have your bonfire on open ground and not on a pile of leaves as a hedgehog may be hiding underneath.

🔥Finally always check the entire bonfire for hedgehogs before lighting it as they tend to hide in the base of the centre of the pile.

🦔If you do find a hedgehog near or in an unlit bonfire, please move slowly and calmly. Pick the hedgehog up with gardening gloves or a towel, along with any nesting material it may have been sitting in, and place it in a cardboard box lined with newspaper. Relocate the box to a safe location and release the hedgehog under a bush.

If you have any concerns please contact one of our surgeries and we will be happy to help!

Check out Frankie during his visit to Gibson & Jones Vets, he loves posing in his new Doggles! Although Frankie looks fantastic, this isn't a fashion statement! Frankie's owner has fitted him out with some snazzy eyewear to protect his remaining eye from any further injury. 🐕‍🦺👀👓😍
