We had an EPIC event instore this week just gone with Grant from talking about his 100% alcohol free brewery and his journey to get there - and also all about his trip on the Camino coming up in March and why he's taking an pack!

It was such a great talk, so we brought Grant back for a Beer O'clock Review! To review the State of Play IPA, which got the thumbs up from Ant, and touch on why the Camino and go through the features of the specific Aarn Pack he's taking - the Natural Exhilaration (with the Balance Pockets Compact).

He also gives us a hint on his new beer coming out next month 👀

This was a super fun Beer O'clock, Grant is a rad dude and we can't wait to hear all about his Camino Journey!

Rosie's Tuesday morning Kayak Group Sessions are what you need in your life!

She runs them in 10-weeks blocks (The first one was the 17th, but there's 9 more weeks left if you wanna get involved!) with this block ending on the 19th of November.

The sessions run for an hour starting at 6:30am to 7:30am from the Arawa Canoe Club so you can squeeze it in before work too!

Do you know the difference between a rain jacket and windbreaker? Aside from one being an alternative word for flatulence... The name is in the title! 🌬️

Windbreakers do just that, they break you from the wind. They're also a lot easier to clean than rain jackets (you're not having to recoat and wash with special soaps) and if you're only using your rain jacket when it's wet, you'll also prolong its life!

In Christchurch that easterly can be brutal, it's one of the reasons why I love my windbreaker so much! Want to know more? There is a new water filter on the Further Faster block!

is an awesome company that not only has a range of water filter options from super small and portable, to the 8L behemoth, but also believes that everyone is entitled to safe and clean drinkable water and for every product sold they make sure that a child in need has access to safe drinking water for a year!

So, have you thought about walking The Camino? I have; it is on my bucket list. Especially after one particularly wet and wild day while fastpacking in the Italian Mountains... head down and try to get to the next mountain hut for a hot drink (which was closed, by the way). While hungry and wet, I looked up and saw a shell. I had seen this shell before, in pictures and talks... Turns out I was on one of the Caminos. It brought some comfort for some reason and distracted me from being tired, wet and hungry.

Grant from State of Play wants to walk the Camino, too. He is preparing. It has been a huge preparation. From leaving a big corporate job to starting his own non-alcoholic brewery and then walking. A lot.

We have chatted about his gear, training and what he will need. And now he is coming to Christchurch to chat about his own journey! Come meet him! Let's chat about beer, walking, gear, and The Camino.

Will be a great night!! With samples of Grants beer and all money being donated to a local charity!

Show some love to Aotearoa's public huts this November!

The are looking to give 900 public huts a spring clean this November, and they need our help to do it! (900 is a LOT of huts!)

The hut network makes up such an important part of our hiking/climbing/mountaineering experience - giving us a chance to meet like-minded people, share stories/adventures and realise the importance of earplugs 😉

So how can we help the FMC? All you have to do is get a crew together, register at https://fmc.org.nz/what-we-do/campaigns/love-our-huts-and-tracks/ and pick a hut or two that you're gonna spring clean! You'll get a checklist of things to do and things to check and then you can sit back and enjoy your hard work in a beautifully clean hut - knowing you've helped keep our backcountry hut network thriving!

This is a throwback to Team Further Faster's Michael Mitchell at this year's Revenant Ultra Adventure Race just after he finished his third lap...

Looking at these feet, and heading into race season, made me think of this blog he and Holly wrote about how to care for your feet when adventure racing: https://shorturl.at/yRTW8 - but, I think, more often than not, your feet are gonna be worse for wear being on them for three days, with minimal rest! (AKA The Revenant) 🦶

So, give their tips a try - having a change of socks, and putting anti-chafe on your feet is going to help so much! Imagine what these feet would have looked like without preventative measures 🤣🧟

When a hydration vest is just that, but can also carry your ice axe? The Norvan 14 Vest is full of surprises in this week's Beer O'clock Review with Rocky! 😱

After a brief hiatus last year, I'm happy to say that the Rangitata Race is back for 2024! 🤩

The UCCC & OUCC have teamed up again to put on this epic paddling event!

With the main race event happening on Saturday the 5th of October and a stoke float down the river (after the clean-up!) on Sunday the 6th, it's set to be a bloody awesome weekend!

Oh look! It's Rocky, Badger (out of shot), Stef and Dane on the Mediterranean Food Co. Valley Ultra course.

Dane won't make the race this year (which he is quite disappointed about!!). BUT you can see him this weekend online watching the CCC at the UTMB World Series!

There have been a few Valley Ultra races where the rain hasn't got the memo that it's race day, but the race must go on! And the best piece of compulsory kit (especially at these times) is your rain jacket! But which one to get? The Team at Further Faster have a blog of their favourites, but I'll give you a hint! For running, it's the Montane Minimus Lite Jacket that comes out on top!

Darren wasn't sold on his Olympuss joke for this week's Beer O'clock Review, but it made me giggle! Hopefully it gives you a giggle too (or even a 'that's a bad pun' groan will work 🤣)

But the new Olympus 6 from are no joke! Darren's on top of all the changes between the new and old model and even noticed a fun little addition to the shoes, that is a really nice touch! 👀

Not to mention the colours, like usual, are gonna make sure you stand out on the trails! 🌈

The beer is a take on a classic kiwi Lolly, the chocolate fish! It's the Chocolate Fish Milk Stout from and it went down a treat! 🍫🐟️

Am I gonna see you at this year!? 😎

Because I'm not biased or anything, but this is seriously one of the best races in the country - and it's in my favourite place to be in Canterbury (aside from the shop!) the Craigieburn's.

I'll even be there with the cheer crew - rain, wind or sunshine (we've had all in the past!) - to bring good vibes to help get you to the end of the race!
