Yesterday we received 4 injured Kereru. All were due to crashes into Otatara windows.

While we grateful for fellow caring Otatarians bringing these injured birds to us and honoured to nurse them back to good health, we would much prefer prevention of these accidents.

Please do what you can to make your windows more visible to kereru, e.g.
* Hang shinny light reflective objects in your window (e.g. glassy pendants, crystal chains, CDs etc.)
* Stencil patterns of your creation with window snow spray paint
* Decals
* Leave your windows dirty

And spread the word to others 😀.

The bird in the aviary at the celebration has now been released back to its home and a couple of photos are here showing the release. Kathy from Bush Haven released it and it flew off into the trees with several other kereru that had arrived to greet it. Another successful rehabilitation, well done Kathy and Douglas, and of course the home owner Dani, who caught the bird and took it for help, and later took these great photos.

Today we celebrated the completion of the kereru release aviary with one kereru moving into the aviary from hospital care. Good luck with the rest of your recuperation, kereru.
