Carlos had his first dressage show and first off property show ever…we are so proud of him! He didn’t go until 2pm so he got to practice patience being tied at the trailer. He was super and settled right in.
Showing is so much more about ribbons and scores. It’s such a great way to build confidence and trust.
Carlos is only 5yrs old so everything is new and interesting! He had some nerves in the warm up but Kassidy did a great job getting him relaxed and ready for his test.
He and Kassidy scored a 62.6 in their Training Level test 2. ☺️ Down centerline there was some commotion behind the ring that spooked him a bit BUT he settled in after the first couple movements and showed a lot of confidence and relaxation in his walk work.
Excited for more this pair next year! Look for us at the dressage and WE shows.

Tuesdays are for trails. ☺️
This week was a treat because we had a couple friends join!
We’ve been getting into a routine of taking the horses out for trails once a week, especially the young ones. It’s such a great opportunity for them to get comfortable with new horses and new places in a low stress environment.
Quadrille performance from Santa Cruz Island horses
What a special day! There’s a first time for everything and over the weekend the Santa Cruz Island Horses got to perform their first ever quadrille routine for the @rideontherapy fundraiser event held at El Campeon Farms Sunday afternoon.
We had a few weeks to put something together and @christyreich had the vision! We’ve always loved the song “come alive” from the movie The Greatest Showman (who doesnt?!:) so we put our heads together and came up with a routine.
Thank you so much to Avila for stepping in last minute as our 4th rider! She rode our SCI stallion, Truffles, who has only been on “guest horse” duty for the last couple years.
He stepped up to the plate and demonstrated one of the greatest traits of his breed- a steady and willing attitude. Avila only had about 4 rides on him but it was all she needed to get him up to speed.
Not only did he handle the routine. He also was the best gentleman as he traveled side-by-side with the others, especially with ChaCha since she is a mare and he is a stallion.
Carlos, one of our young SCI/Lusitano crosses also stepped up in a major way! This was his first show/performance and we couldn’t be more proud of how he handled everything. Kassidy gave him all the confidence he needed and they both looked amazing. 🤩
Monterey and Hayley didn’t skip a beat, even though “Monty” has been out of the show ring for a few years now. He loved having his friends trotting down center line with him..I think we all did!😉
ChaCha was her normal wonderful self, taking everything in stride. She couldn’t be bothered to let the crowd or music shake her confidence. 🤩 We were also really proud of how well behaved she was with Truffles!
At the end of the day all the horses made us proud and were an amazing example of what makes this breed so special.✨
