Did you ever notice folks taking daily walks, but without their dogs? Maybe they walk them at a different time, hmm?

Please share. Far too many dog parents are still using rawhide.

Please share. Far too many dog parents are still using rawhide.

Although rawhide chews come in lots of fun shapes and sizes, your dog can easily chew off and swallow large pieces, leading to a potential choking hazard or intestinal obstruction. What’s even worse is how rawhide is created. Rawhide is a by-product of the leather industry and is often washed and sterilized with a variety of (often harmful) chemicals, such as sodium sulfide, lime, chromium salts, bleach, and hydrogen peroxide. It is then molded and dyed to form what you see in stores today.
Please avoid them at all cost, no matter how pretty they market them!

Fosters are an essential element of Argos Rescue, providing safe and loving environments for our rescue dogs to heal, grow, and flourish. As a foster parent, you offer companionship, food, toys, security, and, most importantly, lots of love to a dog in need. By fostering, you truly save these dogs and prepare them for placement in their forever homes.

At Argos Rescue, we supply all necessary items and medical care for your foster dog, allowing you to focus on giving love and care. Our hospice fosters, in particular, open their hearts and homes to special dogs, ensuring they receive the end-of-life care they deserve. These dogs live out the remainder of their lives in loving hospice foster homes, where they are kept comfortable and cherished until it’s time to say goodbye.

Fostering a hospice dog takes extraordinary people with extraordinary strength. It comes with heartbreak, but also an exceptionally rewarding experience. Knowing that you gave a pup the most love, care, and compassion in their final days is immensely fulfilling. This week, we said goodbye to Bailey, a 14-year-old hospice dog who arrived at the rescue matted, malnourished, and suffering from untreated tumors. Thanks to Argos Rescue and her dedicated foster family, Bailey received the vet care she needed and experienced immense love and comfort in her last months. She was a happy dog, knowing love in her final days.

If you are interested in fostering, whether it’s for an adoptable dog or a hospice dog, please submit the online application found on our website at www.argosdogrescue.org under the Foster section. Your love and care can make a world of difference for a rescue dog in need.

Striving to Keep NM Pets Thriving

Long Leash On Life is a health food and supply store for dogs and cats. Our mission is to improve the quality of cats' and dogs' lives through proper nutrition, positive training and a lifetime of meaningful enrichment, with a special focus on local rescue pets.

We are dedicated to helping pet parents do the absolute best they can to enhance their pets’ overall well-being. Our products are carefully selected based on meeting our high standards as well as their performance. We also pride ourselves in specialized customer service, where both you and your pets are genuinely treated like a part of our family.

Community support has always been another priority for Long Leash On Life. Throughout our fourteen years in business, we have supported many fine animal welfare organizations, such as Animal Humane New Mexico, Paws and Stripes, and Albuquerque Animal Welfare, to name a few.

Perhaps the most rewarding recipients are those in greatest need; the small local rescue groups and rural shelters. Our 2017-2019 donations of pet food tallied well over 400,000 pounds given to nearly 50 animal welfare organizations. This allowed many of these dedicated groups to afford spay and neuter costs, which helps control pet overpopulation, and ultimately reduces pet euthanasia in our Land of Enchantment.
