This Saturday afternoon, June 15. Eugene has been performing insect talks for over 20 years and will appeal to 5-year-olds and adult experts alike. Eugene will identify photos of New Jersey insects that you bring with you, on your phone or physical.

We have invited Mr. Eugene M Fuzy again to walk with us in our gardens and greenhouse to find out what kind of spiders and insects we have around. Are you ready to get your hands dirty and learn the roots of farming?

At Camp, through Monmouth County Park System, campers will tour and learn hands-on what it takes to grow fruits, vegetables, hydroponics, animals, and more! Just a sliver of the activities will include fruit picking, visiting a petting zoo, and making your own ice cream!

Our Annual Pumpkin Smash organized by Kim Obie and the Unwaste Movement was a lot of fun. We composted 900lb of pumpkins! Extra special this year were the pumpkin bites provided by Mark Felz from Trixies Chicken, Matt Collins from Chef Collins Events and Sergio Campos from S.C. Specialties.

It's Giving Tuesday and we'd like to highlight the month-long SeedMoney Grant Challenge that we are participating in! This challenge awards grants on a sliding scale based on how much money a project raises. Funds raised through this challenge will be attributed to continuing and expanding Youth Educational Programs at the Farm.

For the next 8 weeks we'll get a visit from 9th grade students from College Achieve Greater Asbury Park Charter School, they come to the Kula Urban Farm learn about hydroponics and much more.

The Kula Kids did some fun science 🧪experiments last weekend! They made pure carbon dioxide, captured it in a balloon and 'fed' it to the plants🌱. They witnessed some very exciting science demonstrations and after that we read a nice story about counting apples to wind down. The kids then tasted and experimented with different fruits and voted on which was their favorite. The vote score was:

Finally, they dropped the peels in our vermiculture (worm) farm for composting.

It's so nice in the greenhouse this time of year! Ashley hosted a super nice printmaking workshop and Meredith did a great job on the poetry class. The plants are happy!
