Apprentices from The Paideia School were back on site today! The focus was on infill planting to replace sweet potato slips that didn't make it due to heat stress, as well as mulching the beds with coastal hay. Things are looking up!

We are giving a big shout out to Tania Herbert of The Paideia School Urban Agriculture Program for helping us reinstall drip irrigation lines after turning and amending our farm beds last week! Our newly planted sweet potato slips are enjoying immediate hydration due to her hard work. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

The good folks of Food Well Alliance came out to offer the moral and tangible support for the Thomasville Heights Elementary School Urban Farm today. A extra special thanks to the hard working Flannery for light tilling of our beds to mix in soil amendments and w**d eating tall grass on the farm. She's a horticultural superstar in our book!

The Food Well Alliance Community Gardening program is here to help till our beds in preparation for planting, as well as mowing and w**d eating unruly areas of the farm. These folks are life savers for urban gardens and farms throughout metro Atlanta. We're super happy to have them here today!

Our sweet potato slips (starter plants) have arrived from the farm that grew them in Tennessee! We'll be planting close to 2,000 slips over the next couple of days, hopefully before the heavy rains that are forecasted. We're using sweet potatoes as a cover crop this season, to help enrich the soil and suppress w**d growth in the beds until we are ready to plant fall crops when the Thomasville Heights Elementary School students return. Of course we will also be able to harvest delicious and nutritious sweet potato greens and eventually the tubers (sweet potatoes) along the way and at the end of the season! If you have any time today (Friday) afternoon or Saturday morning to help us plant, please contact the Farmer-Educator Kwabena "Cubby" Nkromo, Farmer Citizen - Food Rebel at 678.499.0309 for more details.
