A month ago I was huffing and puffing following these dogs in the snow. Now I just get to float along with them.

Going to use this with as many dogs as possible. They love it and so do my feet!

The hardest part of training is the human part.

1.Dogs are animals, they are not people. This makes them better than us actually. Instinct rules, not negative emotions and lies are not possible.

2.Don't Panic - what most "fights" are is just animal communication.

3. Be confident and in charge, panicking will only escalate a bad moment.

4. Learn to shut up (internally and externally) If the dog's not responding to you then you're probably lying to yourself In a big or small way and don't know it. Take a breath and try again.

5. "My dog hates" and other phrases that put human emotions and excuses in the mix are NEVER the truth. They can and will let things go if given the chance and guidance. Feeling bad for them instead of helping them is no different than just accepting they will always be "crazy".

I believe there is no one correct method for training or rehabilitation and each dog is different. The only incorrect ways are ones that use force, fear, pain, or any kind of negativity beyond saying NO when correcting a behavior.

Some tools are needed for safety that other force free training doesn't recommend, but in reality safety requires a little extra now and then.

I'd like to thank all those that have left reviews in the past. It has however come to my attention that 10 of the 14 reviews are not visible due to not being made public.

If any of you would like to check into your review and see if it was made public or not I would be very grateful!

Also if any of my new clients would like to add a review feel free! *And make sure they are made public*

Poll time!

These are pictures of my pack at its largest. All the dogs you see in these pictures have had almost a dozen fights in total before these were taken. Some were serious and required medical attention, but none were so bad they were unable to recover from mentally. Not even the time one dog triggered 3 others In the middle of playing to attack a 4th.

As scary as that sounds, how I dealt with each fight and the steps I took to prevent it from occurring again proved that no dog actually wants to fight. They are just unbalanced and communicating in an improper way. Check out my pictures for what my pack currently looks like and some of the dogs they've helped me with.

My schedule is currently full helping current clients most of which are long-term. I'd like to offer the following services in order to spread my methods and message and help as many dogs as possible get past their problems and stay in their homes.

Please comment with which one or more than one you would be interested in or if you know anybody who might interested.

1. Helping current dog walkers with difficult clients for $25 a session with free support in between/after sessions.

2. Training one or two walkers in my methods to work with their own clients and build their skill set. Training and socializing on the walk is a great alternative to expensive training classes and programs that have an end date and often leave the owners feeling like they've done all they can.

3. A monthly neighborhood rescue program. Serenity of the Pack meets and analyzes all the troubled dogs in a specific neighborhood to help each household individually and to help the neighbors work together.

4. Working with staff at local rescues and shelters to reach the hardest to reach dogs. Working with the dog themselves and the staff to help them find different ways of dealing with new troubled dogs.

As always Serenity of the Pack has No Breed or Behavioral Restrictions and never will.

If you have the time and patience so do we and that's what they really need. Especially if expensive training doesn't take. Don't give up and Don't Panic!

Thanks for taking the time to vote and comment!

I will never find another job as satisfying as this. ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Starting on October 1st Serenity of the Packs rate will change for new clients.

As always current clients will always have their prices locked in.

The new hourly walk/session rate is now $50/hr.

I'm ready to share the love and expand the influence of the pack. Currently so busy with long term and new clients that I've decided it's time for the next phase:

I'd like to help out current dog walkers with difficult to walk dogs, and possibly start a monthly neighborhood rescue program.

Serenity of the Pack would work with multiple households from one neighborhood that is in doggie behavioral distress.

Pricing for the neighborhood rescue is to be determined

Regular rate will be heavily discounted for dog walkers just looking for help with difficult dogs. $25 per hour and free support, tips, questions answered between/after sessions as needed.

I've never met a dog I haven't been able to get through to. I will show you how to get through to them too.

I'm also interested in adding a walker or two to the pack. I believe socialization and training is possible on the walk, even for difficult dogs. The humans involved just have to be very dedicated, able to read every situation and steer the moment in the right direction.

I'd like to show you how to deal with difficult dogs and difficult people you meet while walking those dogs. That is definitely a required skill these days.

I learned this completely on the fly from the dogs and the people I've run into you over the last 8 years. This cannot be learned in a book or a class and definitely not on YouTube. ๐Ÿคฃ

Starting wage of $15/ part time only (at first). $25 after 1st year *with a steady client base."

(t will take a while to build up a steady client base which I will assist in)

Message me if you would like more details about being a pack walker that has "No breed or behavioral restrictions" ever.

We do NOT use force but you will need to have a certain amount of strength and patience to put the brakes on a difficult dog or multiple dogs at once.

Only other requirements are 18 years +, reliable transportation and a flexible schedule.

Weekly question time:

Ask a dog trainer that was trained by dogs and not by the "man". ๐Ÿ˜œ

My answers might be snarky or just straightforward but hey will never be dishonest.

Dogs don't know how to be dishonest and neither do I.

I'm not selling any products. Nor am I trying to promote a specific style of training.

My methods are "force free" but I will use the proper tools and corrections when necessary.

What do you want to know to help you with your dog(s)?

Post all questions in the comments.

**If you have a serious situation you don't want publicized, feel free to message me privately.**

Say hi to Violet, my very 1st client and her new brother Plavi.

Seriously.

Stop forcing them to keep moving when they find something interesting to smell.

You're gonna have to put your phone away and pay attention to the world around you in order to keep them from eating or rolling in the stinky things they find.

But they will love you so much more for letting them be dogs.

It's a great trade off.

Weekly tips and insights #2

Let them sniff!!!

For the love of Dog, when you are on a walk with your furbabies, let them sniff!!

I see it every day, someone dragging their dog away from a smell, or straight refusing to let the dog stop for anything other than popping. And sometimes joggers and bikers won't even stop for that, forcing the dog to p**p as it's running. ๐Ÿคฆ

Unless it's a sled dog team, there is no reason to be that unaware of the dogs needs.

One of the biggest mistakes we humans make is denying them any chance to use their instincts. Mostly because we are too self-obsorbed to be honest. Half the walkers I see doing this are on their phones. ๐Ÿคท

Not all of us, but too many of us want the walk to go a certain way and above all, on OUR time table. This is selfish.

Letting a dog use it's instincts can be therapeutic for them (and you) as long as you don't do things like shout "Squirrel!" or let them become obsessed about something.

Let them sniff, let them tell you they found a bird or squirrel, tell them good job and then move on.

If we stop denying them what they need and control how hard they play or work, they can become even more loving and loyal than they currently are.

Impossible you say?

There is no end to their love, the only limits are how you see things.

Exercise should ALWAYS include exercising instincts.

I've seen people exercise a dog physically while denying them proper socializing and instincts to the point of self-destruction. ๐Ÿ’”

Let them sniff! The walk doesn't always have to be a certain distance in certain time.

Enjoy them enjoying the world! And enjoy the extra love you will be unlocking.

Weekly tips & insights #1

Force Free training and Prong collars can coexist. ๐Ÿ˜ฑ

I never feel the need to use force when working with any behavioral issues. Patience and guidance are my tools.

I like to gain control with the brain, not the body.

However, some dogs are very strong and you need a way to slow/stop them in a safe manner before redirecting their attention back to you. This is for the safety of you, your dog and whatever has your dogs focus at the moment.

The truth is, if you are in a physical struggle to get the dogs attention or desired behavior, you've lost too much ground and could inadvertently make things worse.

My most successful story of using the prong collar is that of Harley, a 8 year old Labradoodle that was always walked & run with a regular Identification collar.

She pulled super hard because she had a huge zest for life. So hard in fact that her panting would be raspy for hours and hours after a busy day. ๐Ÿ˜ฉ

After a few walks with a prong collar she was no longer pulling, could walk well with a slip lead and her raspy panting went away. She quickly realized pulling wasn't necessary and no longer had a identification collar crushing her windpipe. ๐ŸŽ‰

With a properly sized and quality prong collar, all you have to do is stop, "pump the breaks" using a short tug on the leash. From that point any force/tension being put on the leash is coming from the dogs movements until you repeat the "pump the brakes" signal

Do not keep the leash or your arm tense.

This can send the wrong signal and you're either making the dog think you're nervous or you're aggravating it with the tension. Tension equals fear in the mind of the dog. They may not realize that it's them making you tense and try to get rid of whatever they see that must be making you tense. They will try to get rid of it by barking, lunging or biting because that's how they communicate.

"pump the brakes" and then a relaxed leash sends the signal: stop, now relax.

Give them a few seconds between each brake pump and stop pumping the brakes once they stop pulling against the leash.

When we keep yanking on the leash repeatedly, the stop, stop, stop, stop signal is going to confuse or irritate the dog.

Try to keep your arms down and relaxed but don't let the dog move you foward. Be more stubborn than them and project CALM.

Waiting a few seconds for them to realize you aren't budging gives them a chance to think about things, but if they keep going or get more intense, pump the brakes again and use a firm but calm command to stop/redirect their attention.

Keep repeating until they get the hint and then give them praise, love, a smile or treats the instant they are behaving.

Calm praise. Too much excitement can pour sugar into a hyper dog or trigger a sensitive dog.

Above all, don't get frustrated and don't give up. If you are unable to redirect or de-escalate, walk away and get them to a place where you can achieve calmness.

I believe it's better to not remove the dog from a situation so they have a chance to learn, but if you're not feeling it and they aren't responding or it's not safe, it's okay for both of you to try again next time.

Get a good sit or laying down reset out of them before continuing on the walk. Do this whether you stayed in the situation or had to walk away. You always want to reset to a calm happy state of mind. Especially after a triggering incident.

Eyes on you & relaxed =reset.

Feel free to add treats, squeakers or other tools that may work for your dog as a redirection incentive. But don't rely on these.
Use them to start if needed and in difficult moments, but you want your voice and energy to be enough. Rely on them as often as possible. Repetition is a key ingredient.

Every dog is different. Do what works for you and them.

When purchasing a training prong collar make sure to feel the tips of the links. If they are flat and have any kind of edge they are too dangerous to use and can easily cause injuries. I've included some pictures of good and bad links. Good ones on the right the bad ones are on the left.

Tip: if they come with plastic caps, they aren't worth buying. They will destroy the caps and then your dogs skin is vulnerable.

Always look for links with rounded tips with no sharp or flat edges. And if at all possible make sure to get the ones with a safety quick release.

The quick release is best used only in emergencies though, putting the collar back together is tricky.

Take it off and on via the links. A bit more physical but worth it.

A properly sized collar stays high up on the neck close to the jaw. You should be able to get several fingers under it and spin it into position with your hands.

If it's too tight to spin or so loose it slides down to the bottom of the neck and spins every time they move, it is not going to be an effective tool.

Finally, the most important tip when it comes to a prong collar: NEVER LEAVE ON YOUR DOG when unattended.

And please for the love all common sense, do not EVER tie your dog up with a prong collar or a choke chain.

They make regular collars for dogs that need to be tied up outside.

I would of course prefer every dog be walked with a harness or gentle-lead or know how to not pull, but reality is sometimes they need a little more.

Never been a fan of choke chains or a shock collars. Especially choke chains.

Identification callers should only be used for holding ID tags, and if they're designed for it... occasionally tying a dog up outside. Not a fan of this either honestly.

Please feel free to comment with questions or message me if you need specific advice.

Don't panic.
Don't give up.

There are no bad dogs.

Have a great week!

Have a great day!

Big update:

My walking schedule and long term clients have me so busy I need to change my focus to why I started this.

From this day on I am only taking on clients that need behavioral training help.

Absolutely no breed or behavioral restrictions ever!

Also starting on March 1st, 2022 I am forced to raise my rate by $5 per session. I've been debating doing this for months now and sadly it needs to be done.

All current and repeat clients will as always be locked in at their current rates as always..

Thank you all for five great years and many more to come!

I love this and have big plans for expanding and hopefully doing a non-profit organization to help those in need keep their dogs when it comes to landlords property management having problems with a dog's behavioral issues as well as helping hard to place dogs and giving them a home while they work out their issues.

Stay safe, healthy and be kind!
