During flyball practice today I won a bet by working with the owner to train a very distracted 2 year old dog to complete the whole pattern and carry the ball all the way back. Her husband says "oh no, I meant, he had to be fully trained, tournament ready". This caused me to laugh thinking of all the "fully trained dogs" and silly things they've done through out the years. And go......

Here it is! Congrats Ella. The first English Cocker Spaniel to earn 40K

This amazingly sweet girl did something special this weekend. She set a record. Hopefully the first of many. Ella became the first English Cocker Spaniel to earn 40,000 points in NAFA flyball. A team sport where 4 handlers race 4 dogs against a team of 4 other dogs. They jump over 4 jumps, retrieve a ball from a triggered box then return. A relay race. Fifty one feet down and fifty one feet back. If that team does it in under 24 seconds, without any errors, they earn 25 points.

Ella is considered a height dog. The smallest dog on the team sets the jump heights and they are the one that jumps their height. She's not fast, but she's steady and she's stylish. So many people will watch the race and cheer for her, ask what type of dog she is or just comment on her non stop wiggle.

She is currently the number 1 ranked flyball ECS in the nation and has been running around 2 years. We're thankful to have her in our lives and thankful to our teammates for helping us achieve this goal.
