🇺🇸Project K-9 Hero Adoption Opportunity🇺🇸
Our Project K-9 Hero Rehabilitation and Rehoming Facility is at 100% capacity, but that not going to stop us from helping find this Hero a fur-ever family!
Please meet K-9 Brodie, who served as a Dual-Purpose Patrol/Narcotics Detection Dog with the Hampton Police in Virginia. He had a productive career until he was retired early after he started experiencing heat related medical issues. Brodie is no longer able to work in moderate to high temp conditions due to his body core temperature remaining at a constant 105 to 107 degrees. Brodie went into an episode what the medical staff considered to be heat stroke, which has led to him needing to be rehomed through our nonprofit. He has no current medical needs or conditions outside of this isolated event.
We are honored that the Hampton Police has reached out to Project K-9 Hero to assist with this special case as a trusted resource in the K-9 Community.
Brodie just turned two years old last April, and is a strong/high-drive working dog. He will require frequent attention and exercise that is monitored so he does not experience another overheating episode. Even though he may be retired, Brodie will need a very consistent schedule and routine.
Brodie is animal aggressive towards other dogs and is not used to being around young children. However, he has never showed any signs of agression towards his handler, and is comfortable around teenagers,.
PK9H does not have the space to bring Brodie to Tennessee to work with our staff and place him. Therefore, we are working directly with the unit trainer, who will be helping us with our vetting process. Once adopted, K-9 Brodie will become a full-time program member and our organization will continue to support him for life with medical care, food, and death benefit assistance. This is an opportunity to truly make a difference in a retired Police K-9s life!
If you are interested in giving K-9 Brodie a fur-ever home, please read the following requirements for his adoption carefully. There will be NO exceptions to these conditions.
- Must have NO children under 14 in your home.
- Must have a fenced yard or contained acreage for him to safely exercise multiple times a day.
- Must have an established and secure climatized outdoor kennel where he can comfortably stay in year round if necessary. (These are the conditions he is currently used to.)
- Must have experience in handling/owning a working dog of his caliber or breed.
- Have the ability to interact with him multiple times a day and not leave him unattended for periods over six-eight hours at a time.
- Be willing to travel to Hampton, VA and work one on one with the K-9 unit trainer and PD staff there, to appropriately learn about how to handle K-9 Brodie.
- Show in person that you have the confidence and skill to appropriately handle and maintain K-9 Brodie in all aspects of his care.
