Approximately 60,000 people die (globally) from Rabies each year.
Human Rabies cases in US 2009-2018 (25 total)
7 contracted outside US by dog bites
18 contracted inside US - most common vector - BATS - bites are often tiny and unrecognized initially

Confirmed Animal Rabies cases in the US (2021 - likely falsely lowered reporting due to COVID)
3352 - wildlife
216 - domestic cats (DO NOT overlook keeping cat vaccines current!)

Today is World Rabies Day, when we need to remember that Rabies is still a threat to your pets and you! Here are some facts about Rabies:
Dogs, cats, horses, monkeys, livestock, rodents, squirrels, and chipmunks are commonly affected by rabies.

- Licking excessively in one spot can be a sign of pain
- The first NSAID (Non Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drug) for dogs was licensed in 1997

Don't forget this is the last week of the Food Drive for the raffle drawing for Fluvanna SPCA! We are accepting food to be dropped off at CVH, but if you want to donate at anytime see info below. This week the raffle item is Cat or Dog Heartworm/Flea/Tick prevention! The drawing will be held next week !

Our kittens, cats, and dogs are quickly making their way through our supply of food. If you are able to help, we would so appreciate more food for them. To keep all their tummies good, we try to always feed the same food, and those foods are listed on the flyer. You can either drop it off between 10 and 5 daily or have it shipped directly. Thank you so much in advance for your generosity!
