We’re so excited to launch this new custom piece by local artist Tropical Funk whose work aims to raise awareness about native species, one funky illustration at a time.
🐜
In Hawai`i specifically, the pest species we inspect for are rodents, yellow crazy ants and little fire ants, with the goal of protecting the ecosystems and native wildlife of the remote islands. Seabirds are some of the most vulnerable to pest animal incursions and infestations.

🐀 Rodents communicate using micro droplets of urine, which are undetectable to the human eye. These tiny droplets carry odors that convey messages about territory, mates, resources, and danger.

🦮But here’s where our detection dogs shine!✨

They can sniff out these hidden odors, helping us identify high-activity areas like entry points, pathways, and nesting sites. And micro droplets are just one of the many rodent-related odors our dogs detect during this process, making them invaluable in targeted, chemical-free pest management. 🚫🧪☠️

Ensuring your structure has no entry points is the ideal way to keep rodent out.
Rodenticides have fatal drawbacks for many other animals and negative human health impacts. 🚫☠️

An important message for

Preventative resource management and exclusion (rodent-proofing) is the best longterm strategy to keeping rodents out of your house. Pest management providers that utilize these methods are achieving a high level of success in permanently removing rodents without the use of rodenticides.

Keep everyone safe from poisons by saying NO to the sale and use of ALL rodenticides.

“I walked around your garden, there was a lot of food scattered around for the birds, a lot more than they could eat. I was really hungry and thought maybe I'll eat something. " "
I came back the next day and again the next day; you kept putting so much food out for me.

Then you notice me
"What a disgusting, filthy mouse!" ” I heard you say. Then I saw another man coming with black boxes.
I heard you said I carry many dangers if you don't kill me I carry many diseases.
Truth is i would never hurt you.
Think about it: how many people do you know who got sick from me?

I took food out of these boxes but it was poisonous. I didn't know and ate it.
Feeling really sick right now stomach hurts The pain is getting worse, it's unbearable, I feel like dying. Who's looking after my puppies now? They are still young, they will slowly starve, cry and wonder where their mom and dad are.

After several days of immense agony, I died.
I heard you say someone poisoned the cat and how cruel that was. But u poisoned me too Is my life less important just because I'm smaller and different?
I'm nobody's pet, but I also feel pain, I also suffer, I also fear... So why do you think poison is right for me?

You know your actions don't only concern me, Mr. Owl caught my little brother poisoned him and fed him to his little ones.
Now everyone is slowly dying because of you. Do they also deserve to die?

The man in the black boxes says I must die but he makes money killing my kind. How honest can it be in your opinion?

Think about it now what will happen?
I'm gone, y'all keep putting food out, my friends come over and it all starts again. What has changed ?

"Smaller animals" you define us without realizing we are creatures just like you. We respect you and we don't hurt you, why do you hate us so much?”

* Bringing this post out of the vault, because it’s so important * 👇🏻

I think it’s common to think that when our dog is unruly, there is something wrong with them.

Especially when we look around us and see perfectly behaved pups strolling happily down the street with their owners.

But the truth is…

Everything your dog does is NORMAL.

Chewing…

Digging…

Barking…

Pulling on the lead…

Lunging at other dogs or joggers…

Growling…

It’s all NORMAL.

This is  a normal response for a predator (because that’s what dogs once were) that got plucked out of their natural environment and dropped onto your sofa.

What’s not normal?

Walking on a leash at a mind numbingly slow pace as you stare at your phone…

NOT chewing things, or mouthing you…

Holding a sit stay or a down stay as you chat to a friend…

NOT losing their mind around another dog.

Sure selective breeding has curbed some of the more natural responses our dogs have…

But the truth is…

Your dog’s behavior is a NORMAL response to them trying to adapt to an environment that truthfully is NOT normal for them.

So tell me…

What does that shift for you?

Because your dog isn’t “Bad”. There’s nothing wrong with them. Everything they are doing is completely normal.

I am pleased to announce that Pena has been teamed with Kelly Bradley, a Conservation Biologist from Fort Worth Zoo, Texas, to support her with the project of Iguana nest detection on Anegada Island in the British Virgin Islands. The project is part of the Natural Parks Trust of the Virgin Islands (NPTVI) Iguana conservation program. Pena was donated to the project and is part of Kelly’s family in Fort Worth, Texas, living with her and traveling to the British Virgin Islands to support surveys when needed.

Iguanas are Critically Endangered on Anegada, and the NPTVI and Fort Worth Zoo program are critical for this Conservation-Dependent Species”. More can be read in this Washington Post article: https://www.washingtonpost.com/science/2022/06/04/anegada-rock-iguanas-endangered-cats/
