Surprise! Welcome Fern!
A little bit about our adoption of Fern! It took me a long time to decide because puppies are hard 😂😂
But Fern is incredible in so many ways. First she’s extremely loving. Then I put her through the ringer with tests and she passed every single one by a large margin. I have been looking for a dog to be a family and therapy center dog. Just a friendly, confident, loving pup. Fern is just that. She loves everyone at the center. She is not afraid of any sights, sounds or commotion. She greets every staff member and client, it’s so cute.
At home she LOVES Maverick and Althea. I can already see the bonds forming. And of course Haley and I are smitten. And she’s already Henry and Keller’s best friend and the grumpy old men (Cinna and Oliver) are thinking about being okay with a puppy.
So. Fern Michael is home.
Looking for a happy, confident, loving and cuddly puppy? Meet Pine! A 10 week old mixed breed puppy that has been in foster care with me since he was three weeks old. He loves ball pits, tunnels, running, cuddles and just enjoys hanging with people. He also loves the other dogs in the house- super dog friendly.
Let’s be real, he’s just a friendly guy looking for his furever home! Could that be you? Contact TCRAS at 719-686-7707 today to adopt this wonderful guy.
(He also has a twin sister Prim ready for adoption as well!!!)
A loose leash walk. That’s it. Nothing fancy. Pretty boring. But for a dog that could pull my arm out of socket just a few months ago, this is pretty good. You don’t need some fiery perfect heel to impress people. This is just fine.
We did it! Saddle on and then we grazed and had fun together. She is beautiful in the way that she trusts. She stood still while the saddle came on. She will move away when she doesn’t consent and did so several times. Every part of putting on the saddle was met with positive reinforcement to make it a wholly positive experience.
I am a puddle of tears. I miss her so much. She rode ATV’s with me.
Scarlett proving she is not a Labrador and could not be Cinna’s daughter from a one night stand.
Timmy is up and moving around! His tail is wagging! He ate some broth from a food topper. He tried to play with a sibling. I’m so grateful this morning and Timmy’s improved health.
Our foster puppy is currently fighting for his life. We are giving him round the clock care. It’s so hard right now. Truly hoping the next 24-48 hours he keeps fighting with us.
So Leo. Is awesome. Took him out into the community and on a hike today to see how he was outside the shelter. He did great in Walgreens. In tractor supply. And on the hike. A+. He’s a goofball and loves love. Check out our video and if you are interested in the great Leo, contact TCRAS at 719-686-7707

All about Operant Learning/Conditioning and dog training!
Part 4 All About Behavior and understanding what you DO want for your dog to do. Final video talking specifically about behavior.
Oliver has very particular tastes…
Part 3 All about Behavior and how it impacts our training of dogs! Animals offer behavior that leads to reinforcement!!!
Part 2 All About Behavior and why it matters when training our dogs!
Beginning learning series about behavior and learning to better train our dogs! I thought starting with the beginning would be the best idea so people can understand where learning theory comes from and how it applies to training our dogs. And it all starts with exactly what is behavior!
By the way…she’s safe with me.
Scarlett’s story part 1. What a journey she’s had and continues on!
Continuing posts on science! This time negative reinforcement. Knowledge is power.
Training walk with Chester. Nothing flashy. Just patience and what he wants to do what I ask him to do. Two months ago, Chester pulled. Hard. Very hard. And was scared of everything. Wanted to run away from the outside world.
At first we took it slow and under threshold. We just sat and got comfortable being in the world. He would not take treats, toys or anything. So we just worked on building an association of the world based on love and patience and not fear. Then gradually food interested him as he became more comfortable. Hot dogs, steak and lunch meat for the win! Now he takes all kinds of food as he grows more and more comfortable. He’s amazing. “Here” is my marker word because I don’t always have a clicker on me and so he knows when I say here, to expect what he wants!
