We lost one of our family members last night to illness. Pompeii was a complex silly girl. Definitely kept us on our toes and truly picked her people. I am going to miss her. Please keep my family and her sister Persia in your thoughts. Feeling such a big big loss. Having a pet is the absolute best thing and losing them is one of the worst. 💔❤️🐾

Day two!
Let’s talk about unwanted behaviors. Jumping on people is a big one. Many times coming in to a clients home is a jumping opportunity and everyone is trying to control the situation. My favorite thing to educate on is how we unintentionally reinforce unwanted behaviors when we tell a dog no or off. Dogs that don’t quite understand what we want vs do not want are being reinforced by our words. The intent may be hey don’t do that but it’s being translated to our dog as “hey here’s some chaotic attention when you jump on me or others.” And they are reinforced which isn’t our goal. I teach alternative behaviors and also the act of doing NOTHING. Sometimes it can be that simple but there are other cases where jumping is a major issue and we have to work a bit harder. Either way I love when people realize yelling no or off at the dog doesn’t have to continue.

Pic of bonus dog Autumn bc she’s adorable and spring loaded 😂🤣❤️

Well friends. She is back up for Rehome. There is a Rehome fee and she is up to date on shots. She’s a cavachon. 14 weeks old. I’m helping mom find her the perfect fit. Precious, smart, and spunky. Still struggling with potty training but with someone who has the time to work with her she will do amazing.
I’d love to have her myself but it’s just not the timing for a new puppy in my life but I’d love to help with training to whoever ends up with her.
Ideally someone who doesn’t work long hours away is going to be important. She needs someone to help her progress with her potty training before it becomes an issue.

Walking troubles? Step one typically is exploring the walking gear a client is using and switch that up to something helpful. I love using the freedom no pull harness. Linked in comments

Big guy Hal got a “bath” due to his backyard decision to roll in and wear 💩.
Impromptu bath time can be stressful for sure. The process of just getting a dog willingly in the shower or bathtub (especially at Hal’s size) can be an ordeal. We made this situation a breeze by utilizing a few things.
Keep in mind Hal is an 8 year old 100lb dog who has had baths before. A new puppy/adolescent dog can be a much different set up.

Slowing things down and going at a dogs pace is really important.
Smeared peanut butter on the shower wall at his nose height was a new incentive he really liked.
Detachable shower head with good water pressure was key.
In the summer/warmer days I have also used the hose with a spray nozzle with the different settings.
We let him take his time and gave him some incentive for being in the bathroom space. Treats on the floor to encourage some low to the ground reinforcement/foraging.
- If he was not taking free food that shows the stress level is too great and you may need to take some steps back. -

Water came on initially at a lower pressure to not shock or scare him once he was in the shower.
You can expose dogs slowly with sessions of short duration to louder noises or strange environments before an actual shower, especially as puppies and pair with reinforcement.
Taking the pressure and rush out of a scenario can really set you up for success. Planned showers or baths can be a bit less stressful.
Having more than one person’s help can also help the process go smoothly.
I also controlled the amount of post bath water mess by drying off in the enclosed shower with a towel and immediately going out back with a doggie dryer.
The doggie dryer can also be really loud and scary for certain dogs so it’s good to go slow with incentives introducing that as well.

Every dog is different and their stress levels can vary so one size doesn’t fit all. Baths are a very important and necessary part of owning a dog. I love helping pet parents figure out ways to make baths less frustrating/stressful for everyone involved. Bathing at home can be a chore but also much more comfortable than a grooming facility.

About your Dog Trainer

After getting my degree in elementary education I knew I needed to work with animals instead. My passion and direction for my career path started when I adopted Asia, my first husky in 2014. Learning as much as I could about this breed really started a fire that just could not be stopped. After diving in to the world of rescue and fostering huskies independently I wanted more knowledge. I found a fantastic company with the core values I believed in as far as training methods go. I had an amazing mentor and friend who not only taught me how to train basic commands, but opened the world of dog psychology and behavior. Utilizing a positive force free method has helped my clients build a life long bond and communication with their beloved pups. Modern and scientifically based training techniques are always what I utilize. I am a lifelong learner and am ALWAYS seeking knowledge in the best ways to work with and improve your dogs training. I am a flexible and reliable caretaker to all of my clients. My goal is to make all pups and pup parents love learning. Training is the road to clear communication and enrichment out of owning these amazing animals. I have such a passion for what I do and I am very blessed to have had such amazing pups in my care past and present. I cant wait to meet the next!

We know your pup is great, and we can make them BETTER!
