**EIGHT DOGS DUMPED AT THE 05/25/24 TORNADO SITE IN VALLEY VIEW TX.

EIGHT dogs (7 puppies and their mama) were found in one of the worst-hit areas destroyed by the 5/25/24 tornado in Valley View, TX. There are SO MANY displaced dogs from this disaster and we are trying to help where we can. There are many sad stories but this story took a heart-breaking twist. Witnesses saw some heartless person drive into the tornado-torn area and dump these dogs out of their car —- then sped off leaving them all on the road. No food. No water. No concern for the safety and wellbeing of these dogs. Who does that?

This community is already low on resources. Local shelters and veterinary hospitals have been stretched to the limit and have been unable to take more dogs. Even one shelter was flooded during a storm a few days after the tornado and had to emergency evacuate every dog. The needs here are real.

Thankfully, Rescue Row (a nonprofit dog rescue from Little Elm TX) has stepped up to help foster and provide all 8 with vaccinations, spay/neuter, heartworm testing, medication, food, and more. This is the third time they have helped our community. Each time it has involved rescuing multiple dogs at once. Each time it takes from their limited finances and resources.

We wanted to find a way we (and others like you) can support Rescue Row so have created a GoFundMe account. ALL funds raised will go 100% to Rescue Row to cover their costs for this rescue effort. Any overage will also go to Rescue Row to help other dogs in need. Donations can be in any amount — large of small. Every dollar helps.

You can join us to help these 8 dogs and make a difference. Would you PLEASE DONATE to this effort AND don’t like, share, comment on this post to help spread the word?

Thank you!

For those of you not affected by this tornado, please microchip your dogs AND register it with a service. We have been scanning found and deceased dogs in the area and most have unregistered microchips or no microchip at all — making it nearly impossible to find the owner. If you were ever in a similar situation or your dog simply gets out, you will have a higher probability of being reunited with your dog than if you don’t chip them.

WARNING: GRAPHIC CONTENT. We often get asked by potential clients if we will train their dog to walk with them off leash. The answer is always no — for reasons like what happened in this video.
What took place in this video could have been avoided if BOTH owners had their dogs properly leashed. It is easy to blame the pitbull and its owner who clearly wasn’t holding the leash and showed little to no sense of urgency to grab the leash or dog prior to the attack. However, the little dog was allowed to roam free off leash and without its owner by its side. Neither owner thought this would happen that day but still took risks not worth taking.
Off leash work should only be done in a controlled environment and only with a dog and owner who BOTH have been properly trained.

These two have formed such a special bond since we rescued Xena a few months ago. Amazing to see Samson take her under his wing and for her to learn to trust him so much. He’s really helping her learn how to be part of a family of humans and dogs that care about her and will keep her safe.

Our trail cam picked up video of these two trespassers. They came by 3 times within last couple of days. Our big boy Samson had been barking outside with a little more intensity and vigilance recently -- now we know why! Guess we will be supervising their outdoor breaks for a while.

COLD WEATHER TIPS!
1. Protect Your Dog From Frostbite — paws especially should be protected from the freeze. If they’re picking up their paws off the ground, it’s probably too cold for them to be outside.
2. Be Careful With Ice — take extra care to wipe snow and ice off paws with a towel when coming inside. Their pads can be easily dried out and irritated by ice melt. And chemicals used on roads/walkways can put your pet in danger of salt toxicity or chemical poisoning.
3. Watch for Signs of Hypothermia — dogs can suffer from this condition when temperatures drop, so learn the signs and how to treat it quickly during cold snaps. It’s possible to remedy a slight drop in your dog’s temperature with warm blankets and warm (not hot!) drinks like chicken broth. But severe drops in temperature can cause pets to collapse and even die. Time outdoors should be limited (especially for puppies, dogs who are small, or elderly animals).
4. Supervise Animals Around Bodies of Water — ice presents another incredibly dangerous predicament for curious dogs who want to explore their surroundings. Keep your pet leashed when on walks near water to avoid accidents. Have a swimming pool that froze over? Keep it securely covered, and watch your dog closely in the backyard. They can easily fall through the thin ice.
5. Prevent Dehydration Even When It’s Cold Out — it’s a common misconception, but dogs and people can still get dehydrated even in the winter. Always carry a bottle of water along with you for walks and make sure your pet is drinking enough at home and outside (and make sure their water bowl doesn’t freeze over!).
6. Keep Your Pets Indoors — it’s a good idea to keep pets of all kinds inside when it’s cold out. Especially when temps start to drop below 30 degrees F. Generally, if it’s too cold for you outside, it’s too cold for your pets! When you can’t take your dog for a walk outside, consider indoor activities you and your pet can do together to pass the time and make sure they’re still getting adequate exercise to combat unhealthy wintertime weight gain.
