• Extinguishers should be selected to at least meet the minimum NFPA 10 fire code.
• An extinguisher should be chosen
by anticipating a probable fire in the building areas, for example: wood – gasoline – electrical – mercury – paper – propane gas – lithium – titanium – plastic – petroleum oils – magnesium – vegetable oil – trash – solvents – aluminum – animal oil
• To choose the size of the extinguisher, they are tested under UL laboratories, and are rated giving them an efficiency number, chemical flow and time discharge. It is also based on the fuel amount accumulated in the areas.
• There are different types of extinguishers; dry chemical, water, CO2, clean carbons, potassium base.
