Are you looking for a specific type or breed of pet? Did you know 25% of animals entering shelters are purebred?! You can choose adoption as the best option and still get the type of pet you want. šŸ¾

Let us play matchmaker! ā¤ Every year, hundreds of animals and adopters are matched through our First Contact Service.

Here's how it works šŸ“
When LHS receives an animal, the First Contact database is checked to see if we have registrants waiting to meet that particular type of animal. If there are any matches, the animal is "reserved" for First Contact registrants to consider! Animals reserved for First Contact are not listed on our website for the general public to view.

Sign up today: https://lexingtonhumanesociety.org/first-contact-service

Some of the popular breeds already adopted this year through our First Contact Service include Shih Tzu, Golden Retriever, Corgi, Dachshund, Cockapoo, German Shepherd, Labradoodle, Sharpei, Pug, and Dalmatian. šŸ¾

But it's not just dogs! We receive many different types of animals every year - some interesting pets we've adopted through First Contact last year include a chinchilla, Vietnamese Potbelly pigs, geckos, and a cockatiel.

Sign up for our First Contact Service today and let us save you the hassle of searching - we're here to help you find the perfect pet!

*ADOPTED* June 22, 2022
Name: Miss Doodlebug 2022 Age: 9 months, Weight: 60 pounds, Adoption Fee is: $400

Adoption Fee Includes:
Comprehensive wellness exam, spaying, Petlink Micro-chipping, initial vaccinations: Distemper, Adenovirus, Parainfluenza, Parvovirus, Rabies, Heartworm test, Heartworm and flea preventative in foster care, general de-worming, freshly groomed, martingale collar, pet rescue tag, PLUS a wonderful new lifelong friend!

*You may question our adoption fee, please feel free to contact your local vet and request a quote for all of the above for a 60-70 pound canine. Vet care is expensive...and ongoing. We expect the best of care for our dogs both while they are in rescue and after adoption.*

Our sweet Miss Doodlebug is housebroken, trained to a doggie dog, crated trained and knows a few basic commands. She is used to being with her human 24/7ā€¦so we are looking for a similar family for her now. She is crate trainedā€¦and we recommend crating her when you are away from homeā€¦we hope to find a family where she doesnā€™t need to be crated often. She will bark in her crateā€¦so shared walls (apartments) will not be a good fit for her. She has passed dog, cat and kid testing, but as with ALL puppies, ongoing obedience training is highly recommended. This is a SUPER girl... email [email protected] to receive an adoption application today!

Name: Emmie Lou, Boxer (hearing white female)
Age: 5.5 months, Weight: 41 pounds, Adoption Fee is: $350

Adoption Fee Includes:
Comprehensive wellness exam, spay, Home Again Micro-chipping, initial vaccinations: Distemper, Adenovirus, Parainfluenza, Parvovirus, Bordetella, Rabies and Heartworm test, Sentinel Spectrum preventative in foster care, general de-worming, collar, pet rescue tag, sample of grain free dry dog food...PLUS a wonderful new lifelong friend!

Our sweet Emmie is currently working on housebreaking, crated training and a few basic commands...she is coming along nicely with all and eager to please. Emmie is good with other dogs but still jumps up, so toddlers may not be a great fit. We are looking for the right home for our sweet Emmie Lou. Since Emmie is a female puppy, we will not place her in a home with other female dogsā€¦it will work great for a while, however as females age and mature we often see personalities start to clash with older females in the same home. To save everyone the heartache of having to rehome and uproot an adult, we use this placement rule for our organization. Please email [email protected] to receive an adoption application today!

Maggie Rose - English Bulldog
Status: Available for adoption
Age: 2
Gender: Spayed Female
Location: Frankfort, Kentucky
________________________________________
Reason given up for adoption: Needs to be an only dog
Temperament: very sweet, well mannered
Health Condition: Good
Placement Limitations: 4 hour radius of Lexington, Kentucky, No children under the age of 10, No adopters under the age of 25
Special Needs: No
________________________________________
Comments:
Maggie Rose is a two to three year old, well-mannered Bullie who was pulled from an animal shelter. Maggie would be best suited as an only dog in the home. Maggie is not dog aggressiveā€¦just dominate with housemates; without proper supervision that would land her in trouble with other dogs. She is great with people and is content to lay on the couch all day. She is such a great dog-- spayed, house broken, crate trained and knows a few basic commands. She wants to play with or be petted by everyone. Maggie Rose is a sweet girl who just wants a family all her own. She is up to date on all shots and has no ongoing health issues other than Distichia (please Google) that will need to be watched and a slight limp if she is taken on long walks (we have started her on joint supplement and will require continuance). Maggie of course will need routine Bulldog care, so we prefer previous Bulldog experience. Bullies are not a cheap to own breedā€¦ongoing maintenance and care can be costly. Email [email protected] for an adoption application.

Name: Lucy
Age: 16 months
Lucy's Adoption Fee is: $275.00

Adoption Fee Includes:...
Comprehensive wellness exam, spay, Home Again Micro-chipping (New owner MUST register, $10.99), the following vaccinations (Distemper, Adenovirus, Parainfluenza, Parvovirus, Bordetella and Rabies), Heartworm test, Sentinel (heartworm preventative) in foster care, general de-worming, Premier martingale collar, pet rescue tag, small bag of grain free dry dog food...PLUS a wonderful new lifelong friend!

Lucy is a beautiful, wonderful purebred Beagle. Lucy needs a securely fenced yard for safe play and potty area. Lucy is housebroken and crate trained, but with a puppy a move to a new location could cause setbacksā€¦ patience is always required with a new pet. Lucy is a housed dog, in fact she prefers to sleep in the bed with you. Please do not apply if you are interested in keeping her as an outside pet. Lucy is vocal, Beagles bay. This trait could cause problems for people who share walls with others, i.e., townhouse and apartment dwellers. If you are wondering, can I let my Beagle run free off of his/her leash? *NO* You should not get a Beagle if you are wanting a dog to run alongside you when you jog, or to run anywhere off-leash. Beagles are scent-hounds, and will follow a scent until they find the animal, food, or whatever they are "tracking". When beagles are outside, they must always be either on a leash or in a securely fenced area. If they are loose, they will run away. And 95% of the time, they WILL NOT come when called (unless you have a big slice of cheese pizza with you). While they are busy tracking whatever scent gets their interest, they WILL NOT pay any attention to cars. We want Lucy to grow old and gray with youā€¦it will be your job to keep her safe and happy.

Please email [email protected] and request an adoption application if interested in meeting our sweet girl.

Name: Nokie the Bichon
Age: 5 years

Adoption Donation Includes:
Wellness exam, Spaying/neutering, Micro-chipping, Initial vaccinations, Rabies vaccination, Heartworm testing, Heartworm preventative in foster care, General worming, Pet rescue tag, PLUS a wonderful new lifelong friend!

Nokie's Adoption Donation is: $275.00

Hi, Nokie here! I am a sweet Bichon boy that found himself with Boxer Rescue. While I LOVE my foster people, I don't always trust other dogs...so dominant or pushy personalities would not be best. I currently live with a couple Boxers that I basically ignore. I am super focused on the humans...I am a lap dog at heart.

My foster home is located in Frankfort, Kentucky and they said I could be adopted to a home within a 2 hour radius of here... if in doubt, Google 40601 zip code to see how close you are to me. If you are close and think I sound like the right addition to your family...email [email protected] for an adoption application.

P.S. My foster mom promised better pictures are coming as soon as my groom is completed... so check back soon!

Please share my post!

Name: Hank
Age: 2.5 years
Adoption Donation Includes:
Wellness exam, Spaying/neutering, Micro-chipping, Initial vaccinations, Rabies vaccination, Heartworm testing, Heartworm preventative in foster care, General worming, Pet rescue tag, PLUS a wonderful new lifelong friend!

Hank's Adoption Fee/Donation is: $350.00

Hi, Hank here! I am a young Boston boy that found himself with Boxer Rescue (I kinda look like a tiny Boxer, right?!) While I LOVE my foster people, I am fearful of some men I meet, so slow introductions are best and a family that is willing to help me feel safe. I don't always trust other dogs...so dominant or pushy personalities would not be best. I currently live with four other Boxers that I love to play with, so it is just about finding the proper balance. I would also prefer a home without tiny humans (they don't always give us little dogs proper space when we need it) bigger kids are good (they hand off food, yum!).

My foster home is located in Frankfort, Kentucky and they said I could be adopted to a home within a 2 hour radius of here... if in doubt, Google 40601 zip code to see how close you are to me. If you are close and think I sound like the right addition to your family...email [email protected] for an adoption application.

P.S. My foster mom promised better pictures are coming... so check back soon.

Stella
Fawn female, 11 months old
ADOPTION FEE: $200.00
(rescue donation received in honor of Stella, reduced adoption fee as a result. Thank you CKBR supporters!)

Adoption Fee Includes:
Comprehensive wellness exam, spaying/neutering, Home Again Micro-chipping (New owner MUST register, $10.99), Vaccinations (Distemper, Adenovirus, Parainfluenza, Parvovirus, Bordetella and Rabies), Heartworm test, Sentinel preventative in foster care, general de-worming, Premier martingale collar, pet rescue tag, grain free dry dog food...PLUS a wonderful new lifelong friend!

Stella is a sweet, smart, BIG (90 #) girl that is looking for a new family and place to call home. She is housebroken, crate trained and is working on basic obedience. Stella is still a puppy, and as such still has an accident from time to time...we also recommend an obedience class with Stella to help her grow into the wonderful girl she has the potential to be. Stella is a big girl and pulls on a leash, so she will continue to need some training for this. Stella is high energy, so we will be looking for a placement where she can stretch her legs safely. We will not be placing her with small dogs, cats or small childrenā€¦when excited she tends to forget her size. If you are interested in our boxer girl... please contact [email protected] for an adoption application.

05/04/2016

Tickets will be sold May 3- May10, with the drawing on the afternoon of the 10th. The winner will be posted here on our page. Payments will be accepted until 12 noon on May 10th. (PayPal address: [email protected] ) The more tickets sold...the bigger the payout! Thank you for supporting CKBR!

Liberty
White, hearing female, 11 months old
ADOPTION FEE: $300.00

Adoption Fee Includes:
Comprehensive wellness exam, spaying/neutering, Home Again Micro-chipping (New owner MUST register, $10.99), Vaccinations (Distemper, Adenovirus, Parainfluenza, Parvovirus, Bordetella and Rabies), Heartworm test, Sentinel preventative in foster care, general de-worming, Premier martingale collar, pet rescue tag, grain free dry dog food...PLUS a wonderful new lifelong friend!

Liberty is a very sweet, very timid girl that is looking for a new family. She is crate trained and is working on housebreaking, house manners and trust building. Liberty was raised outside, but CKBR moved her inside and she adjusting slowly by surely. We will NOT accept placing Liberty as an outside only dog. She was not exposed to many things as a puppy, so everything is new and a little scary. We are looking for a family that is willing to be patient and slow with her. Liberty is excellent with the other dogs and sweet as can be with humans.

If you are interested in our boxer girl... please contact [email protected] for an adoption application.
