Dreamboat…In search of a cushy retirement facility. Things get better with age and that’s true for foster Orion, or George Clooney as his foster mom sometimes calls him. Orion is a devilishly handsome boy whose chief want in life is to snuggle up with his people. The boy is a cuddle monster! He’s estimated to be 10-12 years young. He recently had a complete blood panel, and the vet was impressed with how good his bloodwork looked. He came in as a stray so we don’t know much about this sweet boy. His foster mom was able to get some weight on him as he came in VERY thin. He recently had a dental to shine up those pearly whites. Orion is currently in therapy for some ataxia in his back feet. Although, at his age, we are opting not to explore the cause further through advanced imaging, we are doing water therapy, laser, acupuncture, and PT exercises to build strength. Things to know as you consider adopting Orion: -Does amazing with the two resident dogs -That said, he would do best with a older or calmer dog -Kids and cats unknown -Because of his golden age status, he has hind leg weakness. For that reason we will be considering homes with fewer stairs -He has added lip flap accessories which allow the cool feature of sprinkling water on the floor. Who wants dry floors anyway?! -He will do best in a home where his people are home most of the time, or perhaps he can go to work with you and snuggle up in a dog bed beside you. -He knows “sit” by hand signal (his foster mom had a fun time figuring that one out) -He is amazing in his crate, and we recommend crating him to keep him safe while his family is gone. He has the tendency to want to get on furniture and if he has a mishap, it could leave him in a dangerous position. This boy deserves the best home and to feel loved throughout whatever time he has left. If you have room in your retirement home, and think Orion could be a good fit, fill out an application. We’d love to see this sweet guy get a family
Foster Orion has been practicing in his new boots! I could watch him all day! These should help protect his feet when he drags them but we also hope that they cause him to be more aware of his feet and pick them up better! Orion would LOVE a home of his own! Adopting a senior dog is an amazing gift for dog AND the person who love gets to love them!
Hi, I'm Lana! I'm a petite, big-hearted, and loving 11-year-old Weim. I'm shorter than most Weims and weigh about 60 pounds (my foster mom says I'm on a diet and doing so good, I don't know what that means but I have more energy to run and play). I pack my small frame with countless talents! I'm a singer, still searching for a record label. You never know who you are meeting, so whenever someone comes to visit, I seize the opportunity to sing the song of my people! I've always dreamed of being a magician with a residency in Vegas. My signature magic trick is to pull the cardboard tube out of a toilet paper roll without eating any of the toilet paper. This summer, I focused on my love for car rides and learned everything I could about car show modeling. I didn't book any modeling gigs, but my foster mom says I look perfect riding shotgun in her Mustang. I know what you're thinking ... "Wow! I am so impressed by your talents, Lana! How DO you do it??" I am so glad you asked! It's toys. While other dogs are pining over treats and food, I have my eye on the (real) prize. I'll do almost anything for toys and even more if you play fetch with me. Sometimes, if I am feeling especially inspired, I'll even bring the toy back to you so that you can throw it again. When I'm not working on new talents to add to my resume, I enjoy an easy life and am not difficult to please. My foster siblings and I get along great. I am good with kids and do great walking on a lead! I can sleep just about anywhere there's room; I don't mind if it's in a crate, snuggled with you in bed, or next to you on the couch. I can spend a few hours alone and enjoy my personal space, but if my foster mom leaves for more than a few hours, she gives me a little anti-anxiety treat. After receiving my clean bill of health, my doctor told me that I could continue to love with all of my heart! This was the best news I could hear because once I choose someone to love, I will give them everything I have. Adoption f
This sweet boy, Opie, is enroute to his foster home! He originally came into rescue at The Babinski Foundation back in May, and was adopted out. He was returned a few weeks ago. There were children in the home and they just made him nervous and uncomfortable. This guy is already vetted, so we’ll just be determining what kind of home is going to be the best fit for him!
Foster Ace celebrated his birthday with his foster family today! He’s 9! Guys, you are SLEEPING on Ace! He’s incredible! He’s still looking for his forever family.
Ace here again, looking for my forever home. Despite being 8 years old and incredibly well-behaved, I'm still waiting for the perfect family to find me. My foster parents can't stop talking about how perfect I am, and they're just as surprised as I am that I'm still available for adoption.I'm a laid-back, low-maintenance Weimaraner who loves relaxing on the couch, bed, or my dog bed all day. A couple of walks a day keep me happy, and the rest of the time, you'll hardly notice I'm there. Car rides are a favorite of mine, and I'll immediately settle down and sleep. Even though I am very low maintenance I still get a little nervous in new environments. I get shy and want to be next to my owners. I've made great strides in handling loud noises, spending a week at the cabin over the 4th of July with fireworks not bothering me at all. I also met a new best friend, Dorothy, a high-energy 1-year-old female lab. We love to run around and play together, and I even submit to her excitement by rolling on my back. I met Dorothy in a controlled environment and many dogs (dog park) could be a lot for me.Since my last bio write up, I have been great with the kids that come over to my house. I enjoy watching them play while I lounge on the couch. Meeting new adults is a joy for me, and I love getting head scratches from everyone. Since my last update, I no longer need a kennel. I've been left home alone for 8-9 hours without any accidents or destruction—I just sleep on the bed. I even stayed at my friend Dave's house (an IWR volunteer) for a few days and was fine being left alone there. In summary, I'm one of the most laid-back Weimaraner’s my foster parents have ever seen. I tend to gravitate towards the humans that baby talk me the most. I'm super sweet and love to relax all day
Many of you donated on Orion’s behalf! This is Orion from Tuesday working in the underwater treadmill! He also had acupuncture and laser treatments. ❤️ Thank you for helping us love him better!
Keep one of our sweet foster mommas and alum Mia in your thoughts. Christian and Mia helped our forever foster, Annabelle, cross the Rainbow Bridge this morning. Annabelle came to us through our partnership with the ARL. She was released to our care after an unlicensed breeder was shut down and the ARL came in to remove the animals. Annabelle had a MCT which we had removed at Blue Pearl almost two years ago. Annabelle slowed down over the last few months and had some ups and downs, but it became clear it was time to let her go this morning.Since we didn’t know how quickly the cancer would come back, we asked her foster momma to love her until the end, and she understood the assignment. Alum Mia and Annabelle were two peas in a pod. Mia loved her fiercely right along with her momma. Fostering isn’t easy. We love them like they have always been ours, and truly they never stop being our dogs even after adoption.
Foster Rory’s bio is coming soon! We’re still waiting for his DNA results as well! Meanwhile here’s a video of Rory building confidence and just doing some general training work with his foster family!Rory is approximately 2. He has a REALLY sweet disposition, gets along with other dogs, and can be left at large while his foster family is gone. Just an all around very good boy! Cats are probably a “no” as he expressed too much interest in them in his previous home! He’s fostered in Des Moines and his adoption fee is $250.Apply on our website! www.iowaweimrescue.org
Foster Ace is still looking for his forever home! This guy is slow to warm up but he’s sure sweet once he does! And look at him with his duck and his saunter!🥺
Ace is a great car rider and is generally an easy keeper! He would do great as an only dog (which he is now) or with a female dog.
Find his full bio here:

He’s fostered in the Twin Cities.
