My name’s Scout and I’m 8 years old. I came to Iowa Weim from a rescue partner after being abandoned and I was super under weight. I’m steadily gaining weight and was up to almost 59lbs at my weigh in. The vet says my goal weight is about 65lbs.

There are three resident dogs in my foster home and we all get along. I’ve also met other dog friends at boarding and have gotten along well with all after proper introductions. I’m not sure how I would do with cats, never met one!

I get along with all humans I meet, especially if they give me treats. My foster mom’s niece and nephew come over a lot and I like to play with them, but sometimes if they set their snacks down where I can reach, I’ll steal them. I’m working on taking treats “nice”…I just get so excited about my treats (especially toothbrush time before bed!) that I I forget.

I get really excited for meal times so I eat in my crate to make sure the other dogs get time to eat their food in peace. I do fine in the crate during the day, if needed, but Ive been given the privilege of being left out and at large in the house since I’ve been so good. I’ve been at large for up to 8hrs and been fine, as long as my foster mom makes sure she moves all the tasty stuff off the counter. I have a history of counter surfing but we’re working on it and I’m getting better everyday.

I love to go on walks with my foster Weim sibling, Riley. I walk pretty well on a leash, but when I see a squirrel I’ll try to chase it. I could benefit from obedience classes to help with that since I’m all muscle and really strong.

Overall, I’m told I’m a really good boy, and I’d love a forever home, especially one with lots of blankets to burrow under, which is my preferred way to sleep.

Welcome 6 year old Sterling! He was a stud dog that was a breeder release to a transfer facility. He was a few days from euthanasia, but thankfully, our foster families stepped up to make room for him. He’s a sweet boy and has settled in quickly into his foster home. He’ll be neutered in a few weeks along, but after that, he should be ready to look for his new family! Cats and kiddos are unknown, but he’s getting along just fine with the other dogs in his foster home. He’s starting to settle down more in his kennel while foster mom is at work.

This is what aging backwards looks like. Alum Orion got to see a second boating season. There were times in his first 6 months with us that I didn’t think he’d live his long. But this old man is thriving! He still struggles with hindend weakness, but his family is so faithful with acupuncture and his other therapies! The old man got his seconds chance, and he’s here for it!

Update from Alum Moxie’s mom:

Ms Moxie turns 12 today and her gotcha day was memorial day 9 years ago. We love her so even tho she's aloof like a cat. Walks by juuuust out of reach & gives you side eye lol. 👀 She is recovered from surgery and she's getting cold laser treatment for arthritis & she's feeling great.

Our Story

Iowa Weimaraner Rescue is devoted to rescuing displaced Weimaraners, providing them with a safe, stable and balanced environment and making the life-long commitment to finding them forever homes. Iowa Weimaraner Rescue carries a high level of excellence and is the voice for the Weimaraners in our program.

All our dogs are fully vetted which includes: spay or neuter, rabies and distemper vaccinations, heartworm test and prophylaxis. Once in the foster home, the Weim learns basic commands, social skills and is given plenty of love.

Here at Iowa Weim Rescue, we take adoptions seriously and work with each applicant to find the best fit for them and the Weimaraner.
