What a beautiful evening to work horses! Sunshine, breeze, minimal bugs (legit the best part ๐).
Shiloh & I had a great session! She'll be heading home late next week & I think I'm going to miss her!
She's been a fun one!

Don't skimp on the desensitization... Ever.
This dude is in for training. He isn't overly confident & very much would rather be in the pen with his friends.
The top video is us Saturday afternoon. Notice he's ready to bolt the second the flag is moved.
The second video is him today. Dang near a rock. Only is phased when he turns his head into my flagging because he wants to look outside ๐คฆ๐ปโโ๏ธ.
After this we hit up the tarp & then did some lunging outside.
He's less reactive to his surroundings thus less apt to spook, meaning less of a chance of an accident for him & his owner in the long run.
Don't skimp on this. Ever.

We like to have fun around here!
While it may look like she's just kicking the ball around for funzies, this takes a lot of coordination as well as practicing keeping your horse between your legs and hands, putting him where you want him, steering, planning ahead, keeping light hands - all while having fun!
So many laughs were had in this session!

It's hard to video and lead so forgive the quality, but Sauce got introduced to the soccer ball tonight!
At first he said "no thanks" but he quickly got the hang of it!

Took Copper for a little bareback spin quick tonight.
I've never ridden him in my rope halter before & he was a little unsure about backing in it but figured it out quickly!
He's so smart, willing, & ready to be your #1!!
Another one of Copper from tonight.
I do think he needs his teeth done as you can see him mouthing the bit now and again.
This is his third ride since October and he rode off nice and chill.
He will absolutely love being someone's #1!! He likes a job!
Snagged a few videos of Copper's ride this evening in our indoor arena. Lighting isn't amazing but so thankful we have a sandy spot to ride!
Desensitization.
Such an important step in the process of making a good horse.
You want them to know weird noises aren't scary. You can use a training flag, a bag tied to a stick. Anything that makes noise. Make sure you take the pressure off so they get their release.
This filly is as smart as a whip & we're doing all we can to make her a great citizen. ๐
So if you roll up & hear me squealing, clapping, or see me bouncing around her, please know I'm not crazy... I'm just desensitizing!
As they say, "Loud people make quiet horses." ๐คท๐ปโโ๏ธ๐
- Bareback -
The under rated, amazing thing you should be doing!
It gives you great feel of your leg cues, seat cues, and how your horse moves. Aids in your balance.
We try to do it on really hot days thinking that no tack has to be a little cooler for the horse... ๐ค
Riding bareback just once a month can do wonders for you and your horse!
This gal rode bareback for the first time this week and even trotted! Her posture has drastically improved over lessons and we felt it was a good time for her to work on balance without the saddle! ๐ She was nervous but she did amazing! And Rio was his rock star self ๐ฅฐ as always! ๐ฅฐ
This was harder to do one handed than I thought! ๐
The hat & phone were in the same hand in the air so I couldn't see the paper nor the phone screen! ๐
Mixed them up a little by hand (because I couldn't shake it ๐คฃ) & then grabbed one!
๐ฅณ Congratulations Erika! Please send me your shirt size so I can get it ordered!
Thanks to everyone who participated!
We sure appreciate your support! ๐ฅฐ
Our horses are athletes... From trails to competitions at any level, we expect them to perform. Which is why chiropractic work is SO important!
This mare came in & just didn't move correctly. She didn't reach with her fronts, she couldn't get her hinds under herself, & she tripped quite a bit as well as had a hard time keeping the lope.
I suggested she be looked at by the chiropractor we use to see if we could get her moving more fluidly & the owner was all for it! ๐
Proof is in the video below! ๐๐ผ
Horses should be adjusted once per year at minimum for trail horses. If your horse is a performance horse (reining, showing, barrels), it should be getting chiropractic work done as often as necessary to keep them moving correctly & fluidly.
Hope you enjoy the quick video to show the difference in Ms. Tilly.
It is not uncommon that horse comes in for consignment and becomes buddy sour...
Something about the dynamics change. The training horse can be alone for months or not. It could be a with goats or a herd of horses... The dynamics just change. And we just to work through it. It'll click on like a light bulb but that'll take a couple days! And that's ok!
We'll get through one day at a time!
I keep forgetting to share with the horse world my life hack for oral medicines! Here you go!
So dang handy!!
I cannot believe this slipped my mind!
Here's the other video of Banjo I forgot to post! ๐ฌ
Short video of Banjo lunging the other direction yesterday! Now that he's healed & done with antibiotics, I'll get a riding video too!

Thanks for your patience while he was healing! ๐
Another brief Banjo video from yesterday!
The wind was whipping and he didn't care!
A little arena work tonight on Caesar!
