Update: Peggy is in Enrichment Foster!
This past weekend our longest resident, Ava Jr. was adopted! A wonderful day was celebrated and our team prepared to introduce you to the new longest resident, Barbie. However, before we could even move Barbie to her new kennel she was adopted!
So, allow us to (re)introduce you to our current longest resident at the shelter, Peggy!
Peggy is a year-and-a-half-year-old mix who came to HSEP this past February and is known for her sweet yet sassy personality. While she looks hyped up in the kennel, this girl is actually a moderate-energy dog. She loves to run around the yard or go for a walk, but after that, she loves to cuddle! You offer Peggy a toy, and she chooses to cuddle; offer her a bone, and she prefers to cuddle; offer her a treat and she'll eat it, then cuddle!
Peggy is manageable on a leash and shows strong signs of being potty trained. She would do best in a home as the only dog, though she recently made a friend at the shelter and we are working on her social skills. She has a sparkling personality and loves people, especially those who cuddle with her. Just like us humans, Peggy can get overwhelmed with a lot of motion, but when she has a constant - like her favorite people, she thrives!
Peggy's adoption fee is fully sponsored by PIMA, which means there is no charge for you at the time of adoption. Peggy qualifies for adoption or enrichment foster, a program designed to help get long-term residents a break from the shelter.
If you have room in your heart and home for a dog who will give you 110% love all the time, stop in to meet Peggy today!
If you can't adopt, please share Peggy's story with your friends!

While he is currently overwhelmed, it's clear to see that Nemo has a world full of love to give to his people. He came from a foster home with other dogs and enjoyed playing with his foster siblings. Stop in to fall in love with Nemo today!
HSEP is open 11:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. Monday and Tuesday. Nemo is up-to-date on age-appropriate vaccines, microchipped, and neutered.

🚨FOSTERS NEEDED🚨
HSEP is in dire need of foster families who are able to care for bottle-feeding puppies and kittens, as well as pregnant and nursing cats and dogs.
🤗The shelter is no place to give birth and raise babies.
Fostering an animal that is expecting is a wonderful experience. You will be able to witness the miracle of birth in your own home. Pregnant mommies need extra care and consideration while they are preparing to give birth. The individualized attention you provide your foster animals is priceless - you are making a lasting impact on their physical and emotional well-being. Our foster staff is ready to help you every step of the way.
🍼Bottle Feeders need to be able to bottle feed every two to three hours. Seeing these little ones grow up right before your eyes is a life changing experience. No experience, no problem. Our foster staff is ready to guide you and demonstrate how to properly bottle feed your foster.
💥ITS FREE!💥 All supplies that you need will be provided by our foster department.
Let's save lives together! Go to https://hselpaso.org/foster/ to fill out an application today or message us to learn more!
Checkers Needs Your Help
Did you know all HSEP animals that are available for adoption receive spay/neuter surgery? If the animal doesn't come to HSEP already spayed/neutered our on-site clinic performs the surgery and helps the animal recover, which sometimes includes the "cone of shame".
Unfortunately, the plastic cones that work for most animals are too big for our kittens. Our medical team is asking the public to consider generously donating a soft cone from our Amazon Wishlist to help these kittens recover comfortably. The cones, and most of the other items on our wishlist, cost less than $10 and will make a huge difference in the care and comfort of our animals.

*The fabulous Checkers has been adopted. You can view all of our adoptable cats on our website.
Charlie Makes a Deal
Charlie is looking to make a deal - a deal to go home!
Charlie is a two-year-old Jack Russell Terrier/mix who would love to find his forever home. This playful pup loves treats, playing ball and going on walks.
Charlie is an anxious worrywart, which causes him to look ugly in the kennel. Charlie NEEDS to get out of the shelter to learn the world isn’t scary. He would thrive in a home that is filled with structure, routine and love - things he doesn’t get 24/7 at a shelter.
Make the deal of a lifetime by adopting or fostering Charlie today
Fosters Needed
HSEP is in need of foster homes for multiple families. Our team has four orphaned puppies who need a foster home for three weeks. Puppies can be split in pairs of two. In addition, Peggy and her litter of seven puppies are in dire need of a loving foster home, a shelter is no place to grow up. HSEP provides all the tools and guidance needed for fostering, all we need is you!
Help these young pups out by providing a loving home for a few weeks for them to grow big and strong. Message us to learn more and get in touch with our team.
Can't foster? Please share this post - someone in your life might be able to.
The Humane Society of El Paso (HSEP) is the oldest and largest NO-Kill animal shelter in the City and County of El Paso, Texas and have remained in continuous operation for over 66 years for the purpose of building a better community for all animals through adoptions, education, foster-care, volunteer work and community events.
The HSEP is a private, 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation and does not receive any funding from the City or County of El Paso, the State of Texas or the federal government.
