A little hill work for the Evil today. When it is this hot, I try to keep the workouts short but with a maximum level of effort. Cantering/galloping up hills builds stamina and those butt muscles to help push off for a big jump.

A Lil Evil won her 1.30m Medium class on Friday. Super proud of her, especially since I didn’t ride the best today.

It’s hard to believe Howdy Boy is 20 years old! During his career, he won several stakes races and over $156,000. He has been retired for the past several years, but I think he might want to come out of retirement for a simple trail job… he just looks too good!
He had a spa day today… full bath, mane and tail trim and hoof dressing applied. I’m so happy to be able to care for these animals that have given so much to us.

I don’t know if I could love a horse anymore than I love this horse. She gives 110% every time. I thank my lucky stars we found each other.

All a girl needs… a good horse and a good dog.

A little night check snacky for the Lil Evil. She loves her treats!

Just working on a little 1.40m action. She sure loves to jump!

Baby Bunny doing her own version of the gymnastics. She just started jumping in January so her gymnastics are as friendly as can be… don’t ever try to trick a baby with short distances, they just don’t know how to back up yet. As they get use to the job, you can start asking more challenging questions.

A Lil Evil is getting ready for showing next week. We did a 9’ bounce to an 18’ oxer, 30’ to a vertical and finally 21-22’ to another vertical. She did her bare minimum effort at usual. The last jump was actually 1.30m, but she is such a slinky, she makes it look small and easy.

trying to go through the gymnastics as fast as she can. I’m just happy she used her body over the last jump and stretched her neck instead of jumping with her head up like she did over the oxer. The goal is for the horse to bascule over the jumps.

is looking good! She has shed out most of her coat already which is amazing. Her coat has an iridescent quality to it which makes it so pretty. Her weight and top line are fantastic for going into the show season. She is currently fed Havens Horse Feed, alfalfa and mixed grass hay. We also give her oil, Osteo-Form, and weekly Adequan. ,

Here’s a great gymnastics to try! I did this last week with Eve (A Lil Evil, Thoroughbred) and Sissy (Centara, Warmblood). With Eve, I shortened the last part to 19’ and with Sissy, I kept it at 20’.
The point of this gymnastics is not to jump big, the point is to encourage and to help quicken the front end. We are preparing for a show next week, so this exercise will get them ready for the tight one-stride or the last vertical on the course. Can’t wait!

Getting in shape for showing next week. I always like to start my show season off small before building to bigger classes. We will be doing the 1.10m jumpers in Wilmington OH at WEC. This was a little practice for today.

It has been a while since I have posted… a long while… A Lil Evil, the $400 wonder horse, competed in 3 Grand Prixs this year. She has fulfilled my wildest dreams. I never thought I would ever compete at the Grand Prix level, but she made that possible. She proves to everyone, time and time again, you don’t have to have a lot of money or a lot of talent, but you do have to have persistence, patience, and a little luck. I am looking forward to the 2022 season…. my goal is one 1.45-1.50m class this year.
