🎉🦧 Happy Birthday to Adira!🦧🎉
Adira turned 4 years old today. She was born on August 7, 2018 to Lana, the zoo’s 34-year-old female Sumatran orangutan, and Kumar, the zoo’s 14-year-old male Sumatran orangutan. Her birthday party featured presents, streamers, cake, and party favors! Adira was the first baby orangutan born at the Greenville Zoo since 2006!
Shout out to her amazing keepers and interns for throwing the primate party of the year!
Stay cool this 4th of July! Neo the red panda is sporting his red and white while enjoying his misters and puzzle enrichment!
Happy #tongueouttuesday from Benny the boa constrictor. Do you know why snakes flick their tongues?
Amur Leopards Anastasia and Jasper celebrated their 2nd birthday today! Their mother Jade was more than happy to celebrate her birthing day alongside them. Amur leopards are one of the rarest cat species with only 100 individuals left in the wild and are listed as critically endangered. Every Amur leopard is incredibly important to the survival of their species.

That time of the week has approached us again! Are you ready for another #whoswho Friday?! Today we’re introducing you to another one of our awesome ambassador animals, Fenway the Fowler’s toad. Fenway spends most of her day sleeping and being buried in the dirt but is definitely an active hunter during feeding time. #funfact, toads like her will often wiggle their back toes to attract their prey to come closer to them. Fenway didn’t have much luck with that technique in the video, but she was still able to successfully catch her food. Fenway mostly enjoys crickets and mealworms as a part of her diet, and when she’s not relaxing in her habitat she’s out showing off to the world how cool she is! Maybe you’ll see Fenway at your next program!
It’s #whoswho Friday once again! Today, we’re introducing you to Luna! Luna is a short-tailed opossum which are native throughout South America. Now, a lot of people at first think that these little guys are rodents, but they are actually marsupials. However, instead of a pouch they have an abdominal flap! They also have a prehensile tail that helps them hold onto branches when they climb or to carry nesting materials. Luna here can be seen tackling a snake shed to add to her nest! Luna is apart of our ambassador animals in our education building, but you may be lucky enough to see her at our next outreach so keep a look out for her at her next appearance!
It’s #whoswho Friday again! Everyone meet Nuru! She’s an Angolan colobus monkey and is the proud mother of Zuri, who had recently turned 3! Some of Nuru’s favorite foods are bananas and peanuts and she’ll work very hard to get to these items. Colobus monkeys in the wild mostly eat leafy vegetation, but on occasion they’ll eat fruits and various flowers. Below, you can watch a video of Nuru chowing down on some pumpkin that she received as enrichment!
Benita is the definition of #tongueouttuesday
Happy official squirrel appreciation day! Have you met our Prevost’s squirrel, Bebe, yet? Her keeper says she has a love for peanuts and is quite the professional when it comes to nest building. Be sure to come say hi to Bebe the next time you visit the zoo!
We like to keep the animals busy with a variety of puzzle feeders that challenge them to work for their food. Watch the lemurs work to get out some of their breakfast!
Thanks to everyone who came out to wish Zuri a happy birthday! She had a blast! A special thanks to zoo supporter April McBride, who donated towards a birthday present for Zuri! We will be sure to get her something nice!
Watch the lemurs in action as they paint to help their wild counterparts! Thanks to all who have ordered so far. There is still time to get your lemurs painting orders in. First come, first serve until October 21st! Email [email protected] to place an order.
Happy #caturday from our leopard cubs! Lucky zoo visitors just might get the chance to see them on the tv monitor in front of the outdoor enclosure. They are not yet big enough to venture outside, but for now enjoy this video of them playing 😍 #amurleopard #criticallyendangered #leopardcubs #bigcatsofinstagram #greenvillezooaazk
