Julie & her daughter Riley liked this photo I took of their horses so much they decided to print it for Riley’s room. As a photographer, this is why I do what I do. A moment in time, horses they love, captured forever to be a reminder of the summer days riding together. Who knows, maybe someday when Riley is off to college she’ll take this with her ❤️

A day of roping, a summer evening, a reminder of how blessed we are to love these animals.

Lots of extra help with Lady this week! Payden even insisted on helping me wrap…. I’m so glad he wants to help! That took some patience and my knee is still cramped up though 😂👌🏼

BIG shoutout to MLR Livestock Therapy for the magnawave last week! She moved MUCH better immediately following! When she’s in town get on her list! In the meantime I’m doing red light therapy to help that hoof find some comfort.

For those that don’t know I had a mare founder after the loss of her foal during her foal heat. She’s only 9 and was in her prime. It’s terribly sad but we hope with vet, farrier, and therapy that in a years time we’ll have a happy happy horse again! 🙏🏼❤️

Fun weekends spent here doing mini cowhorse clinics! The weather held up great and the cattle worked perfect! Those sneaky new Herefords that didn’t wanna separate did make it feel like a penning clinic at times which added to the fun! We had a variety of horse levels this weekend and all made progress and I think left with some homework. Thank you all for coming and if I open up some summer group lessons I’ll post here!

A few highlights from the weekend! We got so lucky being outside all weekend in April 🙌🏼

March Roping Practice

Roping in early March in Michigan! Unheard of! We’ve been using the outdoor since mid February and that is typically one of our worst winter months! We are soaking up all this early sunshine ☀️

ISO MANURE MANAGEMENT IDEAS

We are looking for a place for our barns manure! We clean our pens a few times a year, and our 14 stalls daily. This adds up as you can imagine! Usually we would spread on the local fields, but we’ve run into a few issue with that. One being that the fields are just too wet to drive in this year. 🌧️ We use wood pellets for 90% of our bedding so the wood is very broken down. Our pile is easy to access as well with solid ground all the way up to it. We have a tractor that can load if needed. What we are hoping for is a company that needs manure free of any debris. Maybe a landscaper that has a loader and dump truck or trailer to haul it out a few times a year or at least in the fall and winter months. It’s been a busy week around here, but i wanted to share this beautiful view from last Sundays cattle drive with you! The Flower Girls has us out to their Ranch Retreat weekend where we put in a two cowhorse clinics. That morning Greg Flower led a cattle drive, so Madi & I snuck in with our colts to join the fun! It was a beauty ride and a great experience for the two young ones. I hope they host more of these in the future! Great facility, well run, and nice people!

The Gillilands

Gilliland Horse & Cattle Co. offers horse boarding, training, lessons, and clinics. Their specialties are reined cowhorses and team roping. If you are someone looking to learn more about cattle work, roping, or ranch horses this may be the place for you!

We welcome a small amount of boarders each year keeping things low stress and private. The Gilliland’s care for your horses like their own! Horses are fed tribute feeds, quality hay, and stalls are cleaned daily. Boarders have access to a 60 x 140 indoor, 60 ft round pen, and eventually the new 130 x 280 outdoor that’s being added. There is also a heated observation room with restroom. A flag is available to work for those wanting tune their cutters or cowhorses, fields to ride in, and it’s located on a dirt road. In the winter months we host regular cattle practices and boarders are welcome at a discount.

As far as training goes both Tim and Stephanie accept a few horses in each year for cow work and roping. Contact them to see if they are a fit for you and your horse. The goal is always to help you ride your own horse! Lessons are included with training.
